Compressor Stall
Gas turbine engine performance is limited by aerodynamic instabilities called rotating stall and surge. Currently there are several control strategies for enhancing the operability boundary of laboratory compressors by actively controlling rotating stall and surge. Models which capture the qualitative behavior of the aerodynamic instabilities have been found to exhibit abundant dynamic behavior and to be useful for designing control laws.
Operability boundary is defined as the operating point where steady axisymmetric flow is unstable and untolerable amount of rotating stall and surge is present in the system. Operability enhancement is defined as the gap between the operability boundary for the controlled system and that for the uncontrolled system. Operability enhancement is one of the main goals for active control of rotating stall and surge. Actuator limits and system noise are found to limit the operability enhancement. We are interested in two problems:
Analysis problem: given a controller with actuator limits and certain noise level, find the operability enhancement;
Synthesis problem: given a set of controllers with actuator limits and certain noise level, find one that maximize the operability enhancement.
It turns out that the synthesis problem is a minimax problem. We try to answer the analysis problem and the synthesis problem by nonlinear reduction using bifurcation theory and invariant manifold theory. For stall control with bleed valve actuators, we have derived analytic formulas that agree qualitatively with the experimental results on a low speed rig. We have solved the synthesis problem for the case when surge inception is close to stall inception by normal form reduction for a low order compressor model.
We are also interested in extending the above control problems to general dynamical systems. We think center manifold reduction and normal form reduction are potential tools.Gas turbine engine performance is limited by aerodynamic instabilities called rotating stall and surge.
There are many differences between Turbos and Blowers. The first is the power curve. Superchargers build boost as rpm increases in a linear fashion, because they are belt driven from the engine crankshaft. This means that the supercharger is always on and achieves its maximum potential at higher rpm's. The faster the engine is going, the faster the supercharger is turning. T...
The Physics Behind the Power of an Engine Insert the key, turn, and vroom. And down the road you go. Most people take for granted the strange conglomeration of metal and plastic under that sheet of metal, either in front or back of their vehicle. The engine, as you may have guessed, is a modern marvel- so to speak. They’re found in cars, trucks, boats, airplanes.
A maglev system is nonlinear and its open-loop response is unstable because of the nature of the magnetic forces used. PI controllers are based on a linearized model, so they do not compensate for certain variations. These variations can occur when a magnetic bearing experiences a working load change on the rotor during operation, ...
Introduction to Aerodynamics Aerodynamics is the study of the motion of fluids in the gas state and bodies in motion relative to the fluid/air. In other words, the study of aerodynamics is the study of fluid dynamics specifically relating to air or the gas state of matter. When an object travels through fluid/air there are two types of flow characteristics that happen, laminar and turbulent. Laminar flow is a smooth, steady flow over a smooth surface and it has little disturbance. Intuition would lead to the belief that this type of air flow would be desirable.
From the poem, it shows that Whitman is well educated by the scientific theories. In Whitman’s opinion, the universe dynamic and ever-changing, which new ideas and thoughts will be produced as the world changes (Trecker 11) and there is “always the procreant urge of the world” (Whitman 45). As Whitman says that he represents the whole human race and the voices of men and animals speak through him, he states himself is a “kosmos”. The self contains more than soul and body, it consists of goodness and badness, all the live forms, and it is deathless (Whitman 401-415). He is the universe, and he accepts all forms of lives. Besides that, he can also hear from the universe. “I heard what was said of the universe, heard it and heard it of several thousand years” (Whitman 1023-1024). He is as old as the universe and with that time he heard the universe. Whitman states that “Prodigal, you have given me love—therefore I to you give love! O unspeakable passionate love” (446-447). He thanks Earth for giving love to him and he will give his love to the Earth in return. Whitman argues that if the first step is the awareness of self, the next step is expanding self to a larger scale. According to Whitman’s point of view, the universe exists in every object at every moment (Kepner 148). Man can obtain description about the universe though scientific works and the beauties of nature (kepner 148). The purpose of the statement is allowing man to be aware of his self identity and explore the structure of universe though his life (Kepner 148). Man shall release his self and merge it to the universe. Though out this process, one can have better knowledge about his role in the universe (Kepner 148). He argues that “There was never may more inception than there is now, Nor any more youth or age than there is now, Mad will never be any more perfection than there is now”(31-33).
Walt Whitman (1819-1892) is considered to be one of the greatest American poets of the nineteenth century. While Edgar Allan Poe may have been more widely read, Whitman had more international writers actively respond to him and his poetry than any other American poet. A century after his death, writers around the world are still in dialogue with him, pondering the questions he posed, arguing with him and elaborating on his insights. People have been attracted to Whitman for numerous reasons. For his time he was truly unconventional and introduced the modern lyric with his autobiographical collection of prose poems called Leaves of Grass. The impact Whitman has, however, exceeds technical innovation; it lies in his universal appeal.
Whitman believes that poetry should be expressed through speaking instead of writing; therefore, he frequently uses parallelism to integrate a melodious and musical quality that ultimately adds to the speaking power of the poem. In stanza two, Whitman starts each sentence with a similar beginning: " O powerful western star! O shades of night- O moody, tearful night!" (7-8). The repetition of "O" and utilization of anaphora creates a powerful, musical quality that leaves an impact on us when we hear the words spoken aloud. Another example of Whitman's use of parallelism to increase the harmonious quality is in stanza sixteen when he comments, "Passing the visions, passing the night, passing, unloosing the hold of my comrades' hands, passing the song of the hermit bird and tallying song of my soul" (185-187). Whitman's repetitive use of "passing" creates a dragging sensation of the time going by and everything "passing" him while he is in a daze. Not only does Whitman give the impression of time "passing" with his use of repetition, but also strengthens the cadence of the poem.
...rns of the poetry before him. For Whitman he felt he did not need to stick to a pattern, likewise he wanted his poetry to come to him randomly, "like music." For Whitman expression was the only purpose to his poetry and everything else was not important, (Allen, 212).
Direct selling includes direct-to-customer sales through personal representatives and party-planning methods (examples: The Pampered Chef, Electrolux vacuum cleaner sales people).
The recent grown in motivation for the study and developing of alternative propulsion systems is in great part of the clearly growth of the air transportation industry and this only means more fuel burning and a higher impact of the aviation industry on the environment and it will take many years until current aircraft are replaced with new gene...

The Target Market is a particular market segment at which a marketing campaign is focused. (Monash University, 2013).
Walt Whitman proved his worth to society over time. He“rejected traditions of poetic scansion and elevated diction”, while using what we now call today free verse (Franklin et al. 1005). He strived to show the true potential of the individual by disregarding the normal rules of poetry, implementing his own vocabulary and writing about the true, natural beauty of objects in the world. Whitman transformed the poetry world by incorporating the idea of the “living, breathing, and sexual body” into his work (1005). Many critics believed
Targeting is the part of marketing strategy, along with segmentation and positioning, which revolves around the customer’s value and relationship. Therefore, the need to evaluate the various segments in the market such as group or organizations, needs the product or services, to be specially designed to satisfy with help of one or more segments to enter the market. Therefore, marketers need to identify and reviews the unique group of buyers who differ in their needs and preferences. And each segment that is chosen to target, the marketer needs to establish and communicate the unique benefits of the company or product or services, that is been offered in comparison to its competitors in the market.
