The Wells Fargo building was built in 1928 located on the Avenue of the Arts in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As indicated on the Information sheet provided by our instructor, the Wells Fargo building was originally built as the Fidelity- Philadelphia Trust Company building, created by the architectural firm of Simon and Simon. For example, the Information sheet also states that, commerce represents a male figure with Mercury’s staff, creation is female figure with sword and scales. The building is embellished with twenty-four panels representing civilization and commerce. In addition, the Wells Fargo building has allegorical figures carved in limestone and bronze doors for three entrances.

is another memorable artwork located in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the Southwest corner of Rittenhouse Square. The gates are by sculptor Eric Berg, who focuses on an animal theme within his work. The information sheet also states that the Gardener’s Cottage was commissioned by the Friends of Rittenhouse Square as a memorial to longtime board member Patty Hogan, who died in 2009. The medium of the Gardener’s Cottage Gates is also bronze, and they were constructed in 2010. The two sets of bronze doors have several similarities and differences. The bronze doors of the Wells Fargo building and the Gardener’s Cottage Gates both play a significant role in the history of Philadelphia.
In comparison, both these artworks are large. Pursuing this further, the Wells Fargo building and the Gardener’s Cottage reflect characteristics that are conceptually distinctive. For example, the Wells Fargo doors are surrounded by several businesses and stores in the area of Center City. On the other hand the Cottage doors stand alone. Most importantly, the two sets of bronze doors are surrounded by several cultural and historic institions in the Center City area. Yet, both of the artworks are surrounded by City Hall, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Independance Hall and plenty other historical sites in …show more content…
Philadelphia. During the Italian Renassiance, the Florence Cathedral Baptistery doors were cast in bronze with bas relief panels. The Wells Fargo building doors are slightly similar because both buildings contain three entrance doors, but their styles are different. As mentioned before, both the themes on the two sets of bronze doors are arranged in different ways. On the contrary, the Gardener's Cottage bronze doors only have one entrance that is connected to a cottage instead of an office building: surrounded with greenery, trees and animals in a park. The two sets of bronze doors are also different, in numerous other ways.
The Cottage Gates feature birds, squirrels, a dog and other animals. The Cottage Gates, are near the premier shopping street in Philadelphia, on Walnut Street which runs parallel to Rittenhouse Square. On the other hand, the Wells Fargo bronze doors are located on the Avenue of the Arts, and as mentioned before both bronze doors have allegorical figures industry and agriculture.
Berg who created the Gardener’s Cottage Gates, chose a relevant theme, because it corresponds to contemporary issues of animal protection. In fact, the Rittenhouse Square park is one of the popular dog walking destinations for residents in the city of Philadelphia. Rittenhouse Square park is surrounded by luxury apartments, popular restaurants, a bookstore and hotels. Today, people may or may not recognize the Gardener's Cottage gates while walking through Rittenhouse Square because they are focused more on getting to other
destinations. In fact, I noticed that plenty of people do not examine the art pieces that are located in Rittenhouse Square such as the frog, goat, and others. However, others appreciate the quality of the work and the vision an artist have in his or her visual design. Ironically, although I am an artist I was unaware of the Gardener’s Cottage bronze doors, which they are located near Freire Charter high school I graduated from. I did not even notice the doors when we had fire drills held in Rittenhouse Square. Yet, I was aware of the Wells Fargo building bronze doors, because I walk near the building when I leave the University of the Arts on my way home. The Cottage Gates are more compelling to me than the Wells Fargo building doors, because the overall depiction of the animal and nature theme clearly fits within its space.
Inside the house there were “piles of Tupperware and glass dishes” (19). Outside there was a shed, garden, trees, and a river. There was an office. There were “brass numbers” hanging “on the front porch” (19).

With the Pantheon being built over 1700 years ago, it’s amazing that architects are still using features and techniques from this work of architecture in modern creations. The use of this type of classical architecture will continue to be used in works for public space due to its remarkable exterior appearance and it’s long lasting structural durability. When both Jesse hall and the Pantheon are compared it is possible to see their similarities from the types of domes that top each, their external facades, and their interior plan. While they share many similarities, the differences that Bell and Binder used in their creation make this work of architecture unique to many other public spaces.

The house stood between Broadway and Fourth Avenue, and it looked like all the other New York brownstones. It was narrow-fronted, with a high stoop. A formal parlor opened into a narrow hall, with the dining room at the rear. The master bedroom and nursery were one floor up, with three more bedrooms one level higher. In contrast to the other houses, however, it had a deep porch, or piazza, at the rear of the third floor level. It had been a bedroom before the Roosevelts tore out the wall and made it an open-air playroom. The house had been a wedding present from Cornelius Van Schaack Roosevelt, or CVS, to his son and daughter-in-law.
The viewbook was compiled by the Architectural Commission for the fair, with the text by Allen D. Albert, an honorary secretary, and forward by Rufus C. Dawes, the president. The book, approximately nine by twelve inches, and consisting of 64 pages of vibrant images of the fair, depicts the major buildings, exhibits and attractions. These images are mostly watercolors, sometimes enhanced photographs or cartoons. Th...
The mansion is a superb example and symbol of clairvoyance; it allows for great insight and perspective, furthermore, it is the one constant in the book. This allows it to greatly alter the story, even though it is an inanimate object that has no feelings, no thoughts, and cannot talk, but still says the most about everyone’s personality. It is an object that conveys true human nature, it does not care who everyone is, as they are all the same to it, and all it provides is a place to see and step back from reality to reflect on people’s actions.
Washington Square Park is home to thousands of New York University Students, families leisurely strolling through the park on afternoons, people cooling off at the fountain during the summer, couples lounging on the green grass, and even home to the New York City Pillow Fight held during the summer. At the center of Greenwich Village, it provides an escape from the busy traffic and city surrounding it. Most importantly, it is home to the Washington Square Arch.
Carver’s the “Cathedral” to Hopper’s Ground Swell. The short story, “Cathedral” by Raymond Carver and the painting, Ground Swell by Edward Hopper, are similar in certain aspects, even though they take place in different settings. There is major conflict in each piece of art that creates confusion in the tone. The “Cathedral” is a first person story, but the narrator remains unnamed throughout the writing. This is a different point of view than the painting, which is first person, Ground Swell pictures individuals on a sailboat looking at a buoy floating in the ocean.
The Vestibule leading to this entrance hall is identical to the entrance of the Temple of Erectheus on the Acropolis of Athens. The statues in the deep niches, carved by Frederick MacMonnies, combine “American idealism with the elegance of Second Empire Style and is in advanced realm by their lack of enframement or paneling.” The vaulted entrance hall, which leads to the grand staircase, is segmented into three aisles and is clad in Iowa sandstone. The arched central aisle has the names of prominent Bostonians inscribed on them.
Is the architectural design of modern homes slowly changing back to the architectural design of castles in the Middle Ages? If design of homes is changing back to design of castles is it a reflection on our society that castles of the Middle Ages were built primarily for defense. Does this mean that as a society we are tying to pull away from each other? There are many similar characteristics and features between modern homes and castles that are incorporated into the design specifically for defense reasons.

Gehry’s additional design of the exterior has created an unconventional model form of house. The asymmetrical form characterizes the entire external side of the house. According to Goldstein, Gehry tried to slant the house roofline, create a false perspective and cause an absurd viewer’ perception or expectation (1979, 9). The complexity of the form might also produce a relationship with the house’s elements such as door, wall, and roof. For example, those elements, which linearly constructed, were hardly noticed since the distraction of geometric form around the exterior part of the house. It’s even barely hard to find the entrance of the house as a result of the salient angles of exterior.
When I was a child I used to be frightened of entering such a place for it seemed so imposing and somewhat dangerous, especially when music was being played. One day, in order to keep a promise I had made, I saw myself forced to enter. It took me quite a while to get the courage to pass through the old oak door, but the moment I stepped in, I realized just how enchanting and breathtaking this building could be. Its fantastic architecture and exquisite frescoes reflect perfectly the unity between this earth and the unseen kingdom of angels in such a manner that one cannot say where one ends and the other begins. The way in which the church was built is also the vivid testimony of a medieval period. Although it is a place that can sometimes be cold and ask for respect it is where prayers are answered and magic is done. An overwhelming feeling of inner harmony takes over you once you enter and God seems much closer. Darkness and light are welded perfectly together creating Redemption’s house. The tower allows you to see the entire town from the smallest river to the biggest building site, offering you its mightiness.
