Ben-Hur as compared to the Passion of Christ (Movie by Mel Gibson) and The Count of Monte Cristo (book by Alexander Dumas)

As I read the compressed version of the book by Lew Wallace titled Ben-Hur, I can’t help but think that the book is somewhat related to the movie Passion of Christ by Mel Gibson since there are some parts in the book wherein Ben-Hur and Jesus Christ cross paths. The one thing I noticed was Ben-Hur was presented as somewhat a witness to the life of Christ but with a story of his own, complete with his own personal struggles and conflicts. There was some parts in the story of Ben-Hur where he meets Christ in a situation that was told in the movie the Passion of Christ, like for example the part where Ben-Hur witness Jesus Christ as he was being Crucified. Jesus Christ also plays a role in the book when He healed the mother and sister of Ben-Hur from leprosy. The book and the movie are somewhat related in the sense that Ben-Hur sees some of the events that transpired in the Passion of Christ although in the movie there was no mention of Ben-Hur. …show more content…

Edmond Dantes was wrongly accused and was sent to prison which was the same with Ben-Hur who was also accused wrongly but instead of being sent to prison like Edmond, he was instead sent to the galleys to work as a slave. Both characters also struck a fortune during their greatest ordeal, Edmond with his treasures on the island of Monte Cristo and Ben-Hur with his inheritance from Quintus Arrius.
