If someone wanted to shed a few pounds what would be the better path to take? There is the healthy way to lose weight and then there is the unhealthy way. One way ensures positive results by properly taking the necessary steps to achieve a desired goal weight. It stats by quitting bad habits and introducing the many healthy alternatives. On the contrary, the other path one could take will most certainly be a painful, potentially traumatizing path that will sabotage the mental and physical wellbeing of all who choose to take it. This path cares not about the age, gender, or race of its next victim, it could care less about being harmful and potentially fatal. Unfortunately many people choose to take unhealthy measures to lose weight. There is …show more content…
The person who chooses to lose weight the healthy way realizes that there is indeed a problem and makes a strategically detailed plan as to how they will shed the pounds. They maintain a positive self- image while working towards their goal weight, on the other hand someone who loses weight unhealthily will usually have a negative self- image that is, as a result, accompanied by an eating disorder. Followers of the healthy choice will first figure out why they are unsatisfied with their current weight in addition to learning how to have a positive relationship with their bodies. A person who chooses to lose weight the healthy way will decide that they would rather eat to live than live to eat. They will eat balanced meals using the correct portion size and incorporate physical activity a few times per week as instructed by a physician. This system will allow for a gradual and safe drop in pounds, resulting in weight loss success. In contrast, the results are going to be quite rapid for someone who takes unhealthy measures to lose weight because they are most likely not going to receive their necessary daily nutrients/ calories. Followers of the healthy choice want to fuel their bodies with nothing besides beneficial super- foods that will promote wonderful health, whereas someone who chooses an unhealthy diet will likely starve themselves or binge on high caloric junk
It is natural for a society to be concerned for the future generations. With the rate of obesity growing in adults and children, many begin to see it as an issue that needs to be addressed. New reports show “ childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years” (cdc.gov). Overweight and obese are not actually the same. Overweight is defined as “having excess body weight for a particular height from fat,” and obesity is defined as “having excess body fat” (cdc.gov). In the larger picture, weight loss surgeries have become “the fast food” response to weight loss demands by the public. In my opinion, many patients are using weight loss surgeries as the weight loss mean rather than their own self-control and self-discipline; instead of for use by those who couldn’t lose weight by any other way. Unfortunately, not all the participants need the weight loss surgeries, and not all receive a long lasting benefit from the surgeries. As obesity spikes nationwide, so does the use (and potential abuse by overuse) of surgical procedures for weight loss.
...o weight problems and a tiny waist may become overwhelming at times, but when you look at all of the factors that play into your choices of fad dieting or healthy diet and exercise the choice becomes a lot easier. Fad dieting comes with the risks of disease, diminished appearance, and doesn’t even provide the long term desired affects. Healthy diet and exercise helps cure the body and keep it going strong, enhances the beauty you already possess, and has long lasting results that give you the body of your dreams. So when your looking at the skinny bodies on the magazines stating that “they lost 15 pounds in 4 days”, try to remember what those 15 pounds may have cost them. When your looking at the person that worked hard with proper diet an exercise and has that certain glow about them remember that although it is tough at first, it is better done the healthy way.
This turns into a cycle of weight loss and gain, which can increase “the risk of degenerative diseases such as obesity, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and cancer” (Vaghefi par. 7). These diseases come into the picture due to the cycle. Fad diets promote weight loss, but not fat loss. When the goal weight is attained, and the diet stops, weight is put back on, which leads to more fat being put into the body than taken out and faster weight gain. When losing weight, the biggest way to avoid developing these major health issues is to “not believe or follow any of the fad diets that promise easy and quick weight loss, because there is no such thing” (Vaghefi par. 8). Safe and healthy weight loss happens gradually, with patience and with exercise and a balanced diet. Fad diets are dangerous and should not be used as they can cause major health
