Similar or different?

Growing up as a trained athlete with goals to pursue university baseball in the country that held the title as the sports national pastime, I was discouraged from softball. “You can’t play softball, it’s for females” was a statement that occurred far more often than one would think. As a baseball player, softball was never an option. With no further discussion, baseball and softball is predominantly played throughout the world. Similarities were observed between each sport, but individual characteristics defined the differences. Contrasting each sport, they are very similar, yet oddly different. Although I trained baseball year-round, there was a time when I was able to lace up the cleats and participate in a charity softball event. Generally, baseball is played on a larger field than softball. Much larger. As an athlete who learned to throw over hand off the mound, it was surprisingly difficult to throw underhand with accuracy, as the ball was a lot bigger than a normal baseball. A shocking difference was the size of the base paths. As a baseball player, I am used to running 90 feet at any given time once I make contact with the ball. In softball, the base paths are cut down to a short 60 feet. I struggled for the first couple of games, adjusting to the differences of softball. After the initial three games of the tournament, I started to ease into the game of softball, and started to make an impact for the team. The way to describe my experience was like walking for the first time. I knew how to crawl, and both were similar as you are going from point A to B, but there was a major difference between the two movements.
