The first reason of this is because history in the past shows it. One famous individual during the late 1800s affect people in positive ways all across the county because of his achievements, his name was Abraham Lincoln. Abraham used his knowledge and skills to make this country a better place for all of us. The main thing that he did was free the slaves in the south and north. This achievment affected people all across the country. Even though this didn't work out at first it soon came out as a good result for all of us. This man also benefited to the country because of his high achievment until his death. This man served Amercica with great posture and without him we would not be where we are today. Another man in history who benefited from his achievements is The First President of the United States, George Washington. He led our country in the great Revolutionary …show more content…
War against Britan, and we won because of his ideas. Without this great achievment of winning this war America would not exist today, it would be a colony of England. So he worked of his achievements to benifet to other people in a huge way. The next reason of this is from literature.
There are many characters in short stories, books, and eve shirt comic strips that benifet to other people for their achievements. For in the novel, "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif," Percy is a young, smart boy who happens to be a demigod. Well he fights many evil gods and monsters and happens to win. His biggest defeat was the Titan, Kronos. This Titan was one of the most evil ones and he fought Percy to the death. Well after Percy had beaten him, he regained peace in all of the world. For all the gods thanked him for his great achievment and his he made the world a better place for mortals and immortals. Another peace of literature where someone's achievements benifet to other people is in the book,"The Merchant of Venice," for it is about a man named Antonio who is have trouble with his life. He soon works his way around the bad things when he starts to make money and his best friend marries the fairest princess. These achievements that him and his friend made contribute to each other. For they both help each other because they are both in
debt. The final reason is because of personal experiences. Many people in today's world thrive off of others because of their achievements. This happens in every day life, and sometimes we don't even notice it, or we don't thank the person for doing this. Some examples of this happening in my life are my mother and father. My mother and fathers achievements have contributed to me in many ways that I can not even count the contributions. For their everyday jobs, that they work hard for has benefited me in many ways. For it has provided me money for now and the future. It's has also given me the chance to attend a catholic high school, and even go to college. This achievements have rubbed off on me and I hope to do the same in the future. Another example of people who benefit to others because of their achievements is teachers in everyday classrooms . For their achievement of graduating college with a masters degree has given me the chance to earn a high school education. Without these achievements by the teachers I wouldn't be sitting where I am right now. These are the reasons of why others achievements benefit to me and other people in today's society.
Percy stranded and lost, amnesiac, and running from the gorgons, finds Camp Jupiter, the roman camp for demigods. He makes friends with Frank and Hazel. Together, they win Capture the Flag for fifth Cohort. Mars then claims Frank as his son and issues a quest to save Thanatos, the greek god of death, from LAceonus, a giant born to oppose Pluto, and issues Frank as the quest leader.
The want for wealth saturates everyone’s mind at one point or another. Almost everyone dreams of having the large mansion near the beach, the multiple cars, etc., but this money does not just come, it either has to be inherited or earned. During the 1800s, most wealth was inherited, but there were a few self-made men that worked their way from the bottom to the top in order to become wealthy. One man in particular influenced wealthy men to come like Andrew Carnegie and Rockefeller. He was able to begin many of the ideas brought about during the Gilded Age because not only was he a major influence in society, but he greatly changed the economy and the industries he was involved in during that time. Lastly, he modernized commerce for businessmen to come. Cornelius Vanderbilt has become one of the most famous names in American history because of the everlasting positive changes he introduced to the country. Cornelius Vanderbilt was an inspiration for future wealthy personas of the Gilded Age because he fought to limit competition in the developing railroad and steamboat industries; his tactics in these industries lead him to great wealth, which helped him wield enormous power and influence over the American economy and politics.
My original thought when comparing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief the movie and Classical mythology was that there would be many more references to the myth of Perceus than any other myth throughout the movie in its entirety. That’s where I was wrong. After watching the movie again and researching the different hero myths my opinion has changed. My new thoughts are that the movie is not influenced by the myth of Perceus any more than other hero myths. The movie ties together many different heroes’ stories and mixes them together to make a wonderful story about a young boy. The movie was based on a book series written by Rick Riordan.
People like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P. Morgan are men who possessed the intellect, the foresight, and most importantly the work ethic to become powerful industrialists. These men displayed their work ethic to the country by being ruthless and tireless. They started something so important that a hundred years later it is still making a huge contribution to our country (Maury Klein pg. 32). What they started was the industrial revolution. Today our country is the most powerful in the world because of our great wealth.
...mount of goods being produced daily. During this time, however, there were a great deal of thinkers and important political people who heavily influenced the America people. People such as Theodore Roosevelt, Edward Bellamy and his followers and Jane Addams changed the landscape of America by successfully understanding what was wrong with the new Industrial America and how to go about fixing it. In their own ways, each individual contributed a great deal to the American society, as they helped advanced it on its path of becoming what it is today.
This man cares more about the wants and needs of the people around him then his own. Percy is brave in the toughest of situations, and stands up for what is right. Percy Jackson has even saved the world twice, by leading armies he organised on his own.
There have been multitudes of people who have made drastic differences in the United States, but a key figure in History is Cornelius Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt went from an eleven year old school dropout to the wealthiest man in the United States. This self-made millionaire changed trade and transportation in the United States forever by building a railroad industry. Americans could travel across the country in less than half the time and buy products they could have never before. His railroad industry connected those in the north, south, east, and west in ways that were unprecedented. Vanderbilt was never recognized for his philanthropy, but made generous donations to universities and churches. Cornelius Vanderbilt was one of the most
... great presidents like Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt helped to set the bar high for future presidents and the future of our nation as a whole, a bar that is still a measuring point for the rest of the world to gage their success.
Greek Mythology in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Rick Riordan’s ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’ focuses on Greek mythology and interprets this into a children’s story. Throughout the story, there are many references and adaptations to mythological tales, and each one is portrayed in a different way. Riordan writes this story as though Hercules, Zeus and Poseidon were still around today, and this would be the effect they would have on people in this day and age.
There have been numerous individuals throughout history who have had their hand in the changes of the nation’s economy, government, and society. In some groups only presidents are thought of when they hear of major changes. However in other groups they in fact think of leaders who most do not even acknowledge. Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet was a leader, and his legacy lives on even today.
Throughout the course of history, many people have influenced the lives of the American people and the economic course of the United States. Although only a little over two hundred years old, the United States has rapidly gained its economic power through the great minds and incentives of its people. During the early twentieth century, many Americans saw the prosperity that America had to offer. John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, and Andrew Carnegie took advantage of the growth of America and helped to shape the American business, economy, and society into what it is today.
The times are in constant motion, and as a result the times always changing. Not only do life styles change over time, but peoples worldviews change from generation to generation. Looking back to the past, as scholars of history, we can see these worldview changes. The Iliad and the Inferno represent both radically different and strikingly similar concepts of the world with different aspects, such as society and religion, at their respective times. By investigating these works, one can begin to gain deeper knowledge of the history of mankind.
The fact that Percy Jackson has friends is incredible. It’s an unshakable fact that any friend of his within a ten mile radius will be in a life or death situation with him by dinner, and they aren’t always so lucky as him. But that’s getting ahead of ourselves. Over the course of the five-part contemporary young adult series Percy Jackson & The Olympians, titular character Percy Jackson must embrace his Greek God parentage and save Olympus with the help of his fellow demigods. The aim of this paper is to discuss his Hero’s Journey throughout the series, provide an in depth character analysis, and draw parallels between Percy and the three classic Greek heroes of mythology: Perseus, Theseus, and Hercules.
As we all know, Hollywood isn’t exactly accurate when it comes to the historical accuracy of movies. Although the Iliad is a myth, the movie Troy doesn’t follow the story quite as accurately as it could have. One major difference is the concept of time. In the Iliad, the battle spanned over a ten year period while in the movie, the battle only lasted about 17 days. However, it does have many similarities to the poem. Both the movie and the poem have similar plots as well as the feud of Achilles and Agamemnon, fall of Troy, the death of Patroclus, Achilles avenging the death of Patroclus and the supplication of Priam to Achilles. Other similarities include Thetis telling Achilles that if he is to stay home and refrain from fighting he will be forgotten. However, if he is to fight in the battle of Troy, he will be remembered forever. Another similarity can be found when Agamemnon confiscates Briseis from Achilles. There are many details in the movie that deviate from the epic poem as well. Some differences between the movie and the poem include the deaths of Agamemnon and Menelaus, the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus, the portrayal of some of the characters and the role of the Gods in the plot. Also, according to the film, the capture of Troy seems to be the subject of the entire movie whereas in the epic poem, the subject is the wrath of Achilles. Also, the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus is a little different. In the movie, Achilles and Patroclus are cousins and Patroclus is younger than Achilles. In the Iliad, Achilles and Patroclus are best friends. Patroclus is older than Achilles and acts as the advisor for Achilles. According to the epic poem, Achilles much more angry and violent than how he is portray...
There are people who truly make an effort to do right for people and on occasion the deeds of the people who try to do right go unappreciated. If you read about Nick’s father in “Indian Camp” by Ernest Hemingway, Brently Mallard in “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, and Mrs. Mitty from “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” by James Thurber.
