Gender Roles and Gender Stereotypes differ in a few ways. Gender Roles are what are classified as the so-called “norm”. The Norm for your gender is determined by society and considers the behaviors of you or that person to be considered the norm or different. Society judges people and their behavior because everyone is so set on the norm they don’t take into consideration the thoughts or feelings of the individual being themselves. Gender Stereotypes are the describing on how one person or multiple people think of you. For as long as most people can remember girls have been called the bread bakers. Meaning the cooks, cleaner, home and child care. Stereotypes not because they are extremely rude but because it’s what the general population says or thinks. Stereotypes are what the general population says or does most commonly to others.
Some psychical differences of male and female included primary and secondary characteristics. Men have testes and women have ovaries. Other differences include deeper voice for male, facial and body hair, and for females body size and hip size are also differences. Some cognitive differences

Many people assume or believe women cant work under stress. The men are stereotyped into saying they work longer, harder conditions and more labor-intensive jobs. Also many records have been kept and analyzed to show how many women are earning more degrees than men. More women are going back to school to earn on higher degree in whatever their job is. Hoping since they have a higher degree they will receive more money for income. With the glass ceiling affecting them, they are more just wasting their time and money because the ceiling is restricting them. Not all companies are in the full effect of the Glass Ceiling but some major ones will never change or see a female at the top of the
Gender roles are how you act, say or do that shows if you 're a man or woman. According to society a man has to be strong, independent, a leader, and so. A woman has to be dependent, know how to cook, and submissive. These stereotypes seem unfair and sexist. A women can be strong, independent, and bring home the money and it wouldn’t make her man she would still be a woman.
The glass ceiling is defined as the “unseen, yet unbreachable barrier that keeps… women from rising to the upper rungs of the corporate ladder, regardless of their qualifications or achievements.” According to the Department of Labor, the glass ceiling is made up of “artificial barriers [that are] based on attitudinal or organizational bias that prevent qualified individuals from advancing upward in their organization into management-level positions.” Qualified women are continuously denied a promotion to the highest levels of corporate America and other professions. Once women reach a certain level at their career, they plateau and the glass ceiling prevents them from advancing any higher.
After watching this video, it became clear to be that my views on traditional masculine and feminine traits will be influenced. I understand the pressure that is put on both males and females to conform to society and the gender roles that accompany their culture. I will make a conscious effort to encourage males to act outside of the image they believe to be masculine. I will let them share their feelings and provide them with emotional support when they need it. I will also look at feminism differently. Before watching this video I believed that feminism was a good thing— now I believe that the idea of it is good but that is should change its objectives. I think that women should focus more on equality and less on the superiority of women. My thoughts regarding gender roles will be influenced after watching this movie.

Sexism is a major factor in the workforce.Today male and female have a hard time breaking into the opposite gender dominated fields. This has happened because of the media, it has showed us that male have certain “right” jobs, as well as female. Female still dominate traditional female professions like cosmetology jobs are 92.9 percent women working them(Wolfe). If a man were to get into cosmetology they would most likely be judged for having that job, because we stereotype that they can't have a feminine job. Women have a harder time getting into high level positions. “Women make up only 21 of the S&P’s 500 CEOs,” (Berman). This has happened because the media has set in place stereotypes that it is wrong for women to have high level positions. It is getting better, in 2013 women chief financial officers increased 35 percent at large U.S. companies from 2012 (Frier and Hymowitz). The job market for men and women is still unfair but it is starting to get equal.

This is when comparing employees where both genders spend the same amount of time working. Not only do women encounter unfairness in work pay, they also face a “glass ceiling” on a promotional basis. The physical differences between males and females are pretty obvious. Males have deeper voices, more hair, and usually big bodies. Females are more petite, have softer voices, and less testosterone. In addition, both males and females have very different sex organs. Both genders think and learn differently in many ways. Everyone has a left and a right side of their brains, but some are more dominant to one side or the other. In elementary school one of the most common phrase used was, “You can’t do that you're a girl.” Society puts gender stereotypes and expectations on children at a very young age. I never really understood these stereotypes and expectations until later in my life. I couldn’t figure out why it was that boys were not allowed to like the color pink, and if the girls wanted to play “boy” sports it was seen as unusual. My family consists of my parents, my sister and I; so I never had sibling of the opposite gender in my life. I didn’t have someone to compare gender differences with. I was given toys no matter what gender they were geared towards. I remember receiving hot wheels cars and baby dolls the same year for Christmas and never thought anything thing of it. I think that these experiences has really shaped who I am today.
Gender stereotyping has been ongoing throughout history. The media has been distorting views by representing gender unrealistically and inaccurately. It created an image of what "masculinity" or "femininity" should be like and this leads to the image being "naturalized" in a way (Gail and Humez 2014). The media also attempts to shape their viewers into something ‘desirable’ to the norm. This essay will focus on the negative impacts of gender-related media stereotypes by looking at the pressures the media sets on both women and men, and also considering the impacts on children.
