The Roaring Twenties Style and Modern Day Fashion Coco Chanel, a famous fashion designer of the 1920’s, once said, “Fashion fades, only style remains the same” (Chanel 1). The Roaring Twenties identified as a time for freedom to express one’s self after World War One ended in 1918. Following the war, The “Flaming Youth” felt they should live their lives now since the future is never promised. Women celebrated their right to vote in 1920, and all the social changes of the twenties effected fashion in the world. Fashion comes from the way society is, and what events surround it. Since the Roaring Twenties fashion era remains in modern day society because of the huge shift from the previous, modest era, many similarities, as well as differences, can be gathered from these two vibrant styles (Boland 1). Fashion in the Roaring Twenties and modern day relate in numerous ways. During the twenties, it became popular for women to be sexier and start showing their legs. The twenties pioneered the start of the rebellious trends for women. The knees were only beginning to be revealed, whereas modern day dresses and skirts are mostly designed shorter. Colors of clothes executed more neutral or soft pastel colors. Today’s colors of clothes translate as more vibrant and showy. The “boyish” look came into effect during the twenties where girls would dress more like the opposite sex. This trend did not remain as popular as it was during the Roaring Twenties era.
