A Community Level Policy Strategy to develop a Prevention Program for Young Adults Locating support from important key individuals along with the necessary entities will drive a successful strategy. Rallying the community by organizing events, briefs and meetings can help the school district take notice and develop further interest in the program. Putting the face of a local neighborhood council at the forefront of this coalition, can be a persuasive tactic as well. Aside from providing press releases, the coalition should develop a healthy relationship with the local media and open the door for all events in order to gain good publicity. Putting editorials in the local newspaper that outline the programs’ goals can also help spread the message. Advocacy efforts should reach the parents of the students who will benefit from this program. By identifying the sector or school where the pilot program will take place, creating awareness can be initiated by printing materials that convey a core message. Circulating material that includes important information surrounding DV facts can help generate support. In an effort to gain “buy in” from local school officials, mezzo level social workers and clinicians should offer a workshop that explains the benefits of psycho-education to the faculty of the chosen school. In ensuring participation from the school staff, the coalition would also gain important allies going forward. Everyone involved in promoting the pilot program into the curricula should agree that school officials should have input in the development process. This is will help identify the roles of those involved and along with identifying the resources needed for the program. By building a strong partnership with the school and the community hosting the pilot program, policy advocates can develop measurable objectives within the program. Assessing the level awareness in the community should be important. The quality of the course and the message provided to the students should be the basis for an analysis. Indicators should be establish and monitor by clinicians in order to measure effectiveness of the intervention.
