I aspire to participate in the SCSU-CARE Community Garden program, because this is a great opportunity to integrate knowledge gained from my public health classes into practice and to ease my transition into the public health workforce. This is also a unique opportunity to engage in community-based research, which aligns with my career goals. Also, this internship reminds me of a time in high school where I helped to develop a garden that grows produce (e.g., tomatoes, peas, corns, lettuce, and carrots) to support the entire school. This was a great learning experience in which I got to learn about the different nutrients and health benefits. For this reason, when I read about this internship, I was extremely excited to apply because I will
I believe that being able to assist others is a positive part of life that we all endure. Although we sometimes view service as unnecessary work, it gives me a sense of pride knowing I’m able to volunteer in my community. Being around people who are willing to work hard has affected my life by motivating me to view service as something that will benefit not only the community, but myself and my views on life as well. Because service is such an important part of being in NJHS, I think my work in the community puts me in a good position in the admission
One of the first actions needed in constructing a garden for the blind on the south lawn of Hume Hall is to construct a barrier on the northern end and eastern end surrounding the garden so as to block out any unwanted street noise. The wall would preferably be cement, with the sides facing Museum Road and North-South Drive unpainted so as to absorb as much sound as possible. However, the sides facing the garden should be painted so as to reflect the sounds of the garden back to its occupants. This wall may need to be as high as seven feet or larger, however high it needs to be in order to block as much external noise as possible.

It is true that growing foods on a farm show that there 's no bad “chemicals” added in the food which starts all out as seeds. If only it weren’t for the fact that again, college students just don’t have time. Along with that, some students live alone in an apartment complex and, I’m sure not too many apartments have an outside area big enough for a private garden. As a college student myself, I find it easier just going to the grocery stores and farmer’s markets to get my food; then again, I still live with my parents and they pay for the groceries. Thankfully, I don’t have to travel to the real farms to get farm-fresh produce; the food comes to local places like the hospital and downtown on certain dates. I suppose a tip for college students; in reality, traveling to the grocery store is easier because it’s a once-per-week-deal while keeping watch over a garden is an every-day-deal and students have things to keep up
In the article “It’s only a garden!”, community workers Jason MacLeod and Catherine Byrne (2012) reclaim the meaning and purpose of community organisation as a intrinsic aspect of community development, within Australia. The significant movement of community building to community organising and back again, was the centre of engaging local residents from the inner-south-west Brisbane suburbs, to collaboratively plan for a community garden in one suburb of what was a newly established ward of Tennyson (MacLeod & Byrne, 2012). This community garden idea was informed by pervious process of planning by the Brisbane City Council that focused on development and infrastructure, which was deemed to be beneficial for the community suburb of Graceville. The project of a community garden was initiated through community development, that commenced in the year 2009, where early preparations were put into place (MacLeod & Byrne, 2012).
I chose this project because when I grow up I want to become a nurse, so volunteering at OVMC was a great opportunity. There was a health fair last year at the school; I met these two nice women that asked me I would like to volunteer at the hospital, and I told them I would love too. When my family and I talked about it, we all seemed like we were on the same page about it and then we filled them out and sent them in the mail the next morning. I got a call a couple of days later to come in for an interview. Another reason I chose to do this project is because I needed to reach my amount of hours for HSTA. Halfway through the summer break, I reached my hours that I had left to do, but I loved volunteering there. I still had next summer and the school year to complete my hours; I had so much fun going there!
At the moment I am currently a rising sophomore who seek to gain exposure in the medical field by participating in internships to obtain experience. Health Career Connection best aligns with my goal of becoming a pediatrician by working with preceptors and mentors who can expose me to different aspects of the medical field. My ideal internship experience has networking and professional development components to mold me into a well grounded professional. By participating in this summer internship I will enhance the skills I have already acquired and improve on my weaknesses as I seek to grow as a professional health care provider. Learning about the roles of administrative and clinical professionals, being acquainted with health care ethics are interest I want to be familiar with. This program would help mold me into a well-rounded professional capable of working with fellow workers and clients. Understanding what is expected of me is a
Belvedere meaning “beautiful view” in Italian is a word that many people correlated with the style and design of the Italian Renaissance gardens. The sight of these gardens were truly remarkable in a time where design would settle for nothing less of such. Throughout the report many things will be brought to light in relation to the Renaissance gardens. This report will include many sub-sections that will pertain to the design of these gardens. These sections include, the history of the Renaissance gardens, their influences, the garden’s features and the multiple purposes of the different gardens from the Renaissance. Although each section will prove to be different from the one before it, it will be seen that they all link to one common
All dramatic productions feature the elements of drama. Following a viewing of the scene ‘Someone’s crying’ from the 1993 movie ‘The Secret Garden’ three of the elements of drama have been assessed. Role, character and relationships have been utilised in ‘The Secret Garden’ to create anxiety and suspense, enticing the viewer to solve the mysteries the Secret Garden presents. The protagonist in the scene is a young girl, around the age of ten who during the night leaves her room to explore her residence. The protagonist narrates the scene; she begins by stating that the ‘house seems dead like under a spell’. This makes the viewer anxious and fearful for the safety of our young protagonist. The protagonist is brave. She pushes open a door and
Scholars engaging in Womanist biblical hermeneutics transform certain strands of biblical interpretation by drawing from literary, biblical, and other extra-biblical sources as a means to illuminate the hegemonic, patriarchal and kyriarchal powers that render Black women exploited, marginalized and oppressed. Philosopher, Clarice Martin and biblical scholar Nyasha Junior’s scholarship highlights American Womanist religious studies scholar’s appropriation of Alice Walker’s definition and concept of womanism as employed in her text In Search of Our Mother’s Garden to reflect their distinctive focus on African American women in their scholarship. Additionally, Junior charts the development of the term “womanist” throughout the expansion of womanist
At the beginning of this volunteer experience, I walked in hopeful that I would gain some knowledge about the different careers that the medical field possesses, but I got so much more than that. I learned that community service is about making an impact in the lives of other members who share my community.
As a child I remember my mother was always busy at work in her garden. It was full of lush red cherry and big boy tomatoes so, juicy and sweet that I could pick them right off the bush and eat it. I would eat so many of these lovely succulent round balls of red that my mouth would start to feel the pain from the acid in the tomatoes. She grew everything from a variety of vegetables so tasty to flowers so beautiful they would take my breath away. I could not wait for springs arrival, just to help her cultivate our summer gardens.
Hogsmeadow Garden Centre is a popular tourist area of the UK, which mainly sells garden-related products in shops and high-quality food in restaurants. In the past few years, Hogsmeadow Garden Centre was expanded and the number of customers sharply increased. However, the sales revenue and profitability hadn’t grown as fast. The aim of this essay is to discuss the main micro-operations at Hogsmeadow Garden Centre and its main input resources, transformation process and outputs, the problems faced by Don Dursley in managing and developing his centre and the solutions to improve the profitability of his business.
Home gardens offer a wide variety of benefits to the environment and serve a diverse group of people. Home gardening provides a source of fresh produce and free of chemicals, it also gives you complete control over the chemicals and products used during the growing process. A home garden allows you to pick the produce when its ripe, unlike produce at the store is often picked before its fully ripe. The quality and flavor of the freshly picked produce from home is better than the produce that might have unknown chemicals and was likely picked several days or weeks before being sold. The produce retains more nutrients when consumed shortly after being picked, making your home garden vegetables a healthier option. A garden also provides a positive environmental impact. The compost allows you to recycle certain kitchen and yard waste into a nutrient-rich additive for the garden. This provides natural fertilizer for you plants and reduces the wastes you produce. If you choose to avoid or limit chemical use, you reduce pollution from your gardening activities. Besides being good for the environment gardens have environmental gains for us. Community service has now grown to be a way of bringing a community together. There is something important about doing good for others. Every community wants the people within it to be disciplined and work for change. Community service becomes easily assessable for it is the one of the best ways to teach a sense concern and sympathy to other individuals. Participating in community service, allows children and adolescents to become aware of good values and morals. Implemented values such as humility, gratitude, trustworthiness, genuineness and respect are some of the most vital virtues that one can obtain from helping the community.
