Commp 1 Reflection Paper

From a young age, my parents surrounded me with reading and writing. As an infant, my nursery was filled with books and the sound of my mother reading to me. Although I could not read by myself, I would become consumed with these stories and constantly beg my mother to continue the book. Day after day I would look forward to the story waiting for me at bedtime and trips to the bookstore to find a new story. This early exposure to literature helped immensely as I began to mature and understand more of the world. As philanthropist Mary McCleod Bethune said, “The whole world opened up to me when I learned to read.” This quote embodies the next few years of my life perfectly, as my world immediately seemed infinitely larger. In this class, I hope to refine my writing skills and prepare well for Comp 2. Mainly, I believe that Comp 1 will truly test and challenge me in ways unlike ever before. Two aspects of my writing I hope to improve through this class are my conciseness and sentence variation. Often times, I find myself adding too many unnecessary details in an effort to be more descriptive; however, this only causes my writing to be repetitive. This semester I plan on improving this problem area in my writing by making it a point to be aware of the issue while writing. In short, I am more excited and motivated to work than in any English class I have ever had. Reading and writing have always been crucial points in my education and personal life. From my early days being obsessed with legendary tales of heroes of the past to embarking on my college writing journey, literature has been as much a part of me as anything else. Now, I am eager to begin improving myself further and overall becoming a more intelligent and learned
