YCEEC ESSAY Books have been part of our daily lives for centuries and centuries and they surely are a valuable record of the world. Without books, today’s human knowledge of everything that has happened in the past, about our ancestors, culture and civilization would have been impossible. They have acted as instruments for communicating information and ideas throughout years. This explains the fact that people who read gain immense knowledge, helping them to have a new understanding of the things surrounding them. The resources and services they offer should create opportunities for learning, support education, and help form the new ideas and perspectives that are fundamental to a creative and modern society. One of the basic ways of increasing the awareness of reading books is by creating better conditions in our libraries. A library should be the place where mothers can take toddlers to read their first story books and where students can study, to a service allowing anyone to borrow a book or access the Internet to do some research. Unfortunately the libraries in our country don’t provide the best conditions for the members of the community. I think that our libraries need a total transformation. There should be separate sections for each age group, a place for students to study or for someone to stop by and read a book and a small entertainment part for children. A library also needs a good librarian who should be well-qualified to help guide anyone who visits the library. The number of books should increase gradually and also the types of books so more people would be attracted to go and read a book of their preferred genre. We can create different book clubs for people of different ages. There they can discuss a certain book and advise other members of the club to read other books. We can even set up some camps where part of the activities involves reading. By doing this …show more content…
It touches every one of us, so why not make the most of it and use it properly. Technology has improved education and learning process even though it has influenced in the reduction of readers. Technology is everywhere, from houses to schools and even in transportation. How can we utilize it to increase the number of readers and show the importance of books? First of all technology is about advertisements, commercials and programs. All these attract the attention of technology users and inform them about different things in their everyday life. We can use different means of advertisement in raising the awareness of reading among Albania. Programs and shows about books or authors may interest the people of our society and stimulate them to read. Between different popular TV shows, we can add some commercials that inform about new books that have come out. Technology can give an important contribution to
Andrew Solomon has some valid arguments in his article, and he tries to persuade the readers through logos, pathos, and ethos. Solomon wants the readers to understand the importance of reading, and how its decline can be harmful to the nation. To reinforce his arguments, Solomon shares a variety of examples, for instance, he mentions that reading helps improve memory and concentration, and the decline of reading is causing mental “atrophy.” He also calls upon the readers to take some sort of action to raise reading rates and help the society. This can grant the readers a form of power and control over the crisis that will lead to an em...
This question, burning in Guy's mind, is quenched by an old English professor that teaches Guy the three reasons why books are so important. One, they have a quality, a texture, that record all records of life good or bad. Two, they offer their own kind of leisure, stemming off the idea of meditating and developing an individuals mind. Third, the freedom to act based on rules one and two.
In the reading, “Why our Future depends on libraries, reading and daydreaming” Neil Gaiman discusses the importance of reading, in addition to that he feels going to nearby libraries to check out books is a wonderful thing especially for children. Gaiman also believes that children of all ages along with adults can read any type of book. The books can be fiction or non-fiction and have dissimilar genres as well. The rhetorical devices that were used are persuasive speaking; the tone which was imperative, and Parallelism. The main point Gaiman is trying to make is that more people should have a desire to read, not only to learn but to also have a broad vocabulary and to be well read to have knowledge on the world.
If you had the choice between your phone and a book, you would probably without thinking grab your phone. But what if you knew that reading is crucial to a future. In “Reading for pleasure Is in Painful Decline” by Stephen L. Carter and “Twilight of the books” by Caleb Crain, both authors argue about the state of reading in The United States. Within both passages they give valid points as to why and how the state of reading are negatively affecting the country. Stephen L. Carter represents how the decline in reading for fun is the main concern, while on the other hand, Caleb Crain shows it’s technology and social media that actually are the main contributors.
In “The Lonely, Good Company of Books,” by Richard Rodriguez, you learn that Rodriguez had read hundreds of books before he was a teenager, but never truly understood what he was reading. His parents never encouraged him to read and thought the only time you needed to read, was for work. Since his parents never encouraged Rodriguez to read it effected how he perceived books.
I began to read not out of entertainment but out of curiosity, for in each new book I discovered an element of real life. It is possible that I will learn more about society through literature than I ever will through personal experience. Having lived a safe, relatively sheltered life for only seventeen years, I don’t have much to offer in regards to worldly wisdom. Reading has opened doors to situations I will never encounter myself, giving me a better understanding of others and their situations. Through books, I’ve escaped from slavery, been tried for murder, and lived through the Cambodian genocide. I’ve been an immigrant, permanently disabled, and faced World War II death camps. Without books, I would be a significantly more close-minded person. My perception of the world has been more significantly impacted by the experiences I've gained through literature than those I've gained
Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, segregation in the United States was commonly practiced in many of the Southern and Border States. This segregation while supposed to be separate but equal, was hardly that. Blacks in the South were discriminated against repeatedly while laws did nothing to protect their individual rights. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ridded the nation of this legal segregation and cleared a path towards equality and integration. The passage of this Act, while forever altering the relationship between blacks and whites, remains as one of history’s greatest political battles.
Books represents an important medium for exchange of information and sharing of ideas that is widely used from ancient times to transfer knowledge from one person to another reading
My dad taught me that books could be my teachers, my mom taught me that our backyard could be my classroom, and my sister showed me that you could bring books into the swimming pool. I did not know it when I would spend hours in the pool reading a book that my parents weren’t encouraging it in vain, but my family life, for good reason, was centered on books. We were the planets orbiting around one sun that was the bookshelf. Little did I know that books would be the catalyst to academic success in my early life, and I owe it all to my family. Although a life with a book in your nose might seem boring, I was never bored. Living through the characters vicariously, I explored Narnia with Lucy, attended Hogwarts with Harry, and rode dragons with Eragon. Of course
Why Literature Matters Dana Gioia has a concern that literary knowledge is declining. Throughout his entire argument he speaks about why people have stopped reading books and why this is a bad thing. Books have been in the worlds’ history since 2700-2500 B.C.E. with the The Epic of Gilgamesh being the first book ever written. Books are the way humans get all of their knowledge about the world. The fact that reading is declining indicates that our world is going to change, and not for the best.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” by Dr. Seuss. Everyone at some point in their lives will read or be read to. For me it’s a great way to escape, to clear my head, and be at two places at once. For me, reading has had its ups and downs, but, through the years I’ve had obstacles which have molded me into the person I am today.
While I believe every child is a reader, I do not believe every child will be enthralled with reading all the time. All students have the capability to read and enjoy reading, but just like any other hobby, interest will vary from student to student. The students in my classroom will be encouraged in their reading, be provided with choice, taught how books can take you into another world but, my students will not be forced to read. This paper will illustrate my philosophy of reading through the theories I relate to, the way I want to implement reading and writing curriculum, and the methods I will use motivate my students to read and help them become literate.
Ever since I was a child, I've never liked reading. Every time I was told to read, I would just sleep or do something else instead. In "A Love Affair with Books" by Bernadete Piassa tells a story about her passion for reading books. Piassa demonstrates how reading books has influenced her life. Reading her story has given me a different perspective on books. It has showed me that not only are they words written on paper, they are also feelings and expressions.
It is important to read and study literature because not only is it delightful to read, it liberates us from the confines of our own time, place, socials environments. It breaks us of our habitual ways of thinking, feeling, and looking at the world. Literature satisfies our desires for broader experiences that we might never endure in real life. We can come to understand ourselves and our perspectives through literature by reading and experiencing things that separate us from other people and worlds. Literature written by different people or depicting people from different backgrounds, places, times, experiences, and feelings will give provide some understanding of how others’ lives and worldviews may be different or similar to your own.
.Unfortunately, culture of reading is limited in our society, and thus, visiting libraries is required even in earlier ages. This activity will be my substantial procedure I would take, if I got the chance to be an administrator of education in this country .
