According to GoodTherapy.org (2014), social isolation is the experience of being separated from others. This isolation can be physical or emotional. Normally social isolation is not a topic of discussion but can be very prevalent among teenagers and can be very serious if not addressed. Social isolation is not healthy is usually combined with episodes of depression with bouts of anxiety. When you combine all these symptoms listed above a person can have erratic episodes that can lead to unfortunate events such as the Columbine Shooting. The question is how many schools actually enforce these regulations. Taking a stand against bullying can prevent children from being forced into involuntary isolation and depression. Since the Columbine shooting there have been over one hundred school shootings in the United States. Some school shootings that have occurred since the Columbine shooting include: The Virginia Tech School shooting that occurred April 16, 2007 in Blacksburg, Virginia. Seung-Hui Cho age 23 murdered 32 people and wounded 25 before committing suicide. Seung-Hui Cho had been ordered to seek therapy in 2005 after making suicidal remarks to a roommate (CNN Library, 2014). The Heritage High School shooting that occurred May 20, 1999 in Conyers, Georgia. Shooter T.J. Solomon Jr. age 15 injured 6 students at Heritage High School. T. J. Solomon Jr. was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years in prison (Pressley, 1999). On December 6, 1999 12 year old Seth Trickey fired shots in front of a Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
