It is exactly in these cases that hazing gets taken way too far since people’s detached attitude allowed students to commit horrible acts against their soon to be brothers. Hazing is done specifically by students against students which makes it very important that society begins to place high emphasis on the severity of all cases of hazing. Society must acknowledge what has been done in the past to stop hazing and then begin to examine what more needs to be done in the future to eliminate hazing across all college campuses to save our students, friends, sons, and brothers. Hazing is a symbol of this gang violence and needs to be stopped. Overall, the culture could be lessened by eliminating the normalization of hazing on college campuses across the country today (Hughey, 2008). Hazing in college fraternities removes people’s voices from the larger conversation in the world. Without their voices, the world could be missing out of a new idea, a new change. Helpless, innocent lives taken by a senseless act, hazing negates all purposes of Greek life, especially fraternities. By raising the laws against hazing, people will think more about their actions and positions regarding the topic. Hazing awareness can offer substantial community for those affected and help provide a safe place to express their emotions. By raising awareness and changing the connotation hazing has when people hear simple stories about it will impact the overall call to action people feel when they hear a tragic story such as the ones previously mentioned and will make an everlasting change on college life for all people. Hazing in college fraternities frankly completely alters the purpose of fraternities which, to my best understanding, is to create a brotherhood that is supposed to last forever; however, this “brotherhood” allows people to be humiliated and harmed.
