College Has Exceeded My Expectations
A new place to live, new friends, a new diverse campus, new classes, and even a newfound freedom: that was what I found waiting from me the first day I moved up to Northern Arizona University. These were the things I was in search for when I was looking through all of the different colleges that I could possibly go to. NAU had them all but most importantly, NAU had a wonderful communications program, which just made everything a little better.
Having lived in the same cozy house in Tucson for all my life, I wanted a change of scenery and from the hot climate. So as I started my search for the perfect college I would look to see if I could live on campus, or anywhere out of Tucson. Coming up here to NAU I am given a chance to live in a new place, McConnell Hall, and have pride in the place that I live. It is wonderful being able to say that I live here and it is my own room. I know it is not a house or an apartment, but it is still fantastic for a first move. I would not choose to live anywhere else at this moment in my life than to live on campus. You get to meet so many different people and there’s usually something going on, most of the time it just random things though.
What is great about living on campus is how random people just show up in your room. Knocking is not something that is known to people who live in my hall. It is not uncommon for people to just walk in to talk, or if they do knock, they knock once while they are walking in. It is great way to meet people, mostly friends. People come into your room to steal ideas of how they should put things in their room, to borrow things such as a screwdriver or just a can opener, or to even just hang out. What was cool was that I meet a friend of mine in the bathroom when she got her hand stuck in a vase she was washing. In the dorms you meet people in irregular ways, but it makes for great conversations later on.
Our literature review consisted of six scholarly articles that were studies done on students who were going into college. The first article that we found focused on how important communication is when it comes to making friends. McEwan & Guerrero (2010) talked about the benefits of communication before getting to know someone. We based our questions off of this article regarding communication in order to find out about roommate interactions.
This being so, he admitted himself that he felt no hatred for the man. Orwell lived through being tricked by Hitler’s manipulative rise to power and hypnotic control, and felt that he needed to warn the common people of any possible similar situation. During the time Orwell was writing "Nineteen Eighty-Four," he was not in great physical and mental condition, another writer remarked. "Orwell 's health was poor; then, too, his wife died in 1945. Orwell was sick and gloomy; in 1947 he retired to a small farm on a distant, lonely island in the Hebrides, and cut himself off from society. Personal facts obviously predisposed him toward looking at public facts with bitterness (Kateb, 574)." Orwell 's weakness could be an explanation for the severity of the situation within "Nineteen Eighty-Four," as he was vulnerable, and likely wrote for a cause. Because of his intimidation by the recent events in Germany, the war and potential for Nazism to seize control, Orwell wrote "Nineteen Eighty-Four" full of fear. This is likely the cause for the tremendous amount of pessimism, and obvious connections that can be seen in the
Eric Blair, better known for his pen name George Orwell was born in 1903 in the town of Motihari, India. Like other boys during this time, his parents sent him to boarding school so he could get an education. Orwell ended up boarding at St. Cyprian’s for five years while only
Imagine your first home. The place where you lived right after you were born. Where you took
Eric Blair, known to his readers under the English pen name of George Orwell (1903-1950), was a man familiar with the roles of government. He served with the British government in Burma under the Indian Imperial Police. Returning to his European roots, Orwell also sided with the Spanish government as he fought with the Loyalists in their civil war. It wasn't until he wrote professionally as a political writer that Orwell's ideas of government were fully expressed. Orwell, in his political writings, was extremely contradictory. He was a critic of communism, yet he also considered himself a Socialist. He had hatred toward intellectuals, but he too was a political writer. It is only natural that a man of paradoxes would write of them. In his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell develops his Socialist Utopia as a paradoxical society that ultimately succeeds rather than flounders.
Eric Authur Blair, better known by his pen name, George Orwell, was born on January 23, 1903 at Motihari in Bengal. Orwell was brought up in what he considered a less fortunate family when it came to money. Only a few days after his only son's birth, Orwell's father, Richard Blair, retired from his position as a minor official in the Indian Customs with a small pension. The lack of wealth in his family growing up caused Orwell to see the world in different class distinctions. Everyone and everything Orwell faced in the earlier stages of his life, he immediately judged based on its place in the different financial levels of society. He found it a huge misfortune that he classified his own family as “ the lower-upper-middle class”. (British Writers, V7, 273-276)
While I wish finding my way around the school was my only problem, I was faced with some internal challenges. As the school year started, my friends slowly started to leave to these “big shot” colleges or simply move away to other community colleges. I, too, wanted the complete “college experience” somewhere in Arizona or across the country; yet I felt stuck and unaccomplished. I also felt jealousy which could have been because I did not get to decorate my dorm room. While talking about dedicating hard work to your education, Gina Rodriguez said “Just remember, during those times of fear and doubt, that you are right now discovering your true strength.” And in those times of doubt, I reminded myself why I could not just move and leave everything behind. The root of my challenges and concerns are my family. As I enrolled as a full time student, my family was fighting some financial problems which created marriage troubles for my parents. I could not leave at a time like this. I knew it was not the first time my parents were talking divorce but somehow I knew it was best to stay. I got financial aid from the school which saved me the fuss of asking my parents for money. It really meant so much to not put another worry on their

In the early years or Eric Arthur Blair, or from 1903 to 1928, his life was lived as Eric Arthur Blair and not the popular name of George Orwell. Being educated until it became too costly, regarding the careers of parents, Orwell became a very vivid man. He was willing to inform others on his experiences. After his resignation from the Police Force in 1927; shortly one year into being an author, his “Lack of success” (BBC) caused him to work at low wages. His first book “Down and Out in Paris and London” was published as George Orwell but was legally changed shortly before it was published, from BBC History (lines 7-9). George Orwell had many works themselves, but he was known for his novels...
The second I stepped onto the campus, I knew that it was where I wanted to be and I felt like I was at home. The atmosphere felt friendly and family-like, the campus and the surrounding area was beautiful, academics are amazing, and the athletics and their facilities are great. The most appealing of these factors to me was the outstanding criminal justice program. This really caught my eye because my long-term goal after college is to work in the criminal justice field as a criminal investigator or a crime scene investigator. Not only does UNF have a great criminal justice program with outstanding professors that were, at one point, in the criminal justice field, but they also have great ties with the FBI and Jacksonville Sheriffs Office,
Unfortunately, that skill is rather ignored in middle school and is expected to be taught in elementary school. When those students do not grasp the concept in elementary and are pushed through to the middle school without the skill, they fall behind their classmates. With the reading skills for vocabulary lacking, these children are usually labeled with ‘learning disabilities’. All too often students read a passage and skip over the words that they do not understand. However, vocabulary skills in reading are essential to not only in the reading classroom, but in all the content area classrooms as well.
To think that my first semester of college will be over this friday makes me realize how fast time flies. The first few weeks of college were tough, tiring and full of anxiety. Being in a new environment, a different state and not knowing one single person was something that I did not prepare myself for. Throughout all of the tears and the frustrations, I had to constantly remind myself that I am at The University of Akron to gain an education and become a successful individual.
When I first enrolled here at State University, I never thought I would ever be in the position to graduate. Finishing college was a huge goal growing up but it was also my biggest fear. But after three and a half years of dedication I plan to get my degree in the fall. Getting this far in college was not easy, it took encouragement from family, dedication, and assistance from others to reach this position.
must stick with it. A cabinet could be opened at home and a variety of tasty
I choose to enroll at Winston-Salem State University because of the school having one of the top ranked nursing programs in North Carolina and my financial situation. Since coming to Winston-Salem State University in August the most significant learning experience that I have had is learning to balance your time. I learned this from my first semester here, from having classes, going to work and enjoy campus
