If college athletes deserve to get paid, then there must be some sort of system put in place to pay these athletes. This is when a system gets put into place that has many similarities to the way how professional teams operate. First all of the division I men’s basketball and football teams are going to be given a salary cap. This will be the same for every college program in the country and would top off at $650,000 dollars for basketball teams and $3 million dollars for football teams. There are going to be people who believe that this is not possible for the universities to pay their athletes this amount of money. By paying each player a minimum of $25,000 each year it would leave $375,000 as well to help attract and offer the top recruits to their teams. People will say that it is unfair, but in what way is the system unfair. Each college team has a salary cap and whether it be $625,000 dollars for basketball and $3 million dollars for football it is fair since every team has the same amount of money. Besides, how much unfair can college sports get with Duke and Kentucky getting the majority of the top recruits in basketball and Alabama getting the top recruits in football year after year. This would help bring more competitiveness to college sports, because programs are not going to be able to afford to pay 5 of the top players in the nation. The competitiveness will also rise since players are going to be working harder than ever hoping to receive an increase in their annual salary. The third part of the plan would that if the athletes want compensation, then they will be forced to complete their degree if they want to pursue a dream in the pros. This will only help benefit the athlete in a variety of ways, such as having a backup plan if their dreams somehow do not work
