Secondly put salary caps so one collage can't pay one player more than another collage so players are not influenced by the amount of money. Lastly "minimum salary could be $25,000 per player in each sport. This would obviously not make the athletes rich, but it would give them enough to live like typical college students." (Nocera). While others may say or wrecks family history because if you have generations and generations go to one college than they started to get paid it might wreck that history because they will pick the highest paying one. Should college athletes get paid an additional salary? They are an important assets to universities and colleges, so why should they not? How else would universities justify taking advantage of these young men and women? These are questions that arise when pondering the issue. This has been a large controversy over the years of rather or not college athletes should be paid, more specifically football and basketball players. However, they fail to mention that colleges are only considering paying a select few, the stars of the sports. Every single sport in colleges is making revenue for those campuses, making colleges money hungry. Thus, if they decide to only pay a select few, would that leave out women sports all together? Why pay college athletes more on top of everything they already receive? Most college athletes receive free tuition, medical care, meal plans and room and board, which can acquaint to more than a quarter million dollars for their entire college career (Scoop, 2013). Why ask for more? What is this teaching our youth? They should appreciate their chance to do what they love and value the education they are receiving, because that education is far more valuable than a potential sports salary. Even though colleges and college athletes have a few good points on why they believe they should get paid, over all the issue is larger than that, college athletes already make their share of “money” through free education and much more.
College sports are so entertaining because any team can win any game due to the spread of great athletes all over the country. If colleges started to pay the athletes, whatever team had the most money would have the best athletes, meaning there would only be a couple of good teams in each sport and they would dominate. Professional sports teams are a collection of the best and most skilled athletes in that sport that can play for 15 or more years. In college, athletes only have four years of eligibility before they are ineligible and can not participate in college athletics anymore and many of the great athletes leave after one or two years of playing college sports. If money was used to pay the athletes, the corruption of college sports would increase. Money is never a good idea to be involved in sports, because it always causes bribery or exploitation. For example, the recent events with the FIFA organization and how some of the top authority figures have just been banned for many years for taking bribes, illegal ticket sales, and other scandals (Davis). This relates because it goes to show any CEO or president of a company can be bought and if money started to get more involved in the world of college sports it is hard not to think that some authority figure for some team would be bribed. Even the students might be involved in the bribery. If college athletes were to get paid there would be a limit to how much they would get paid. Fans and sponsors of the college teams would then offer additional benefits to get the athletes “persuaded” to come to their school. Then student athletes will not have to attend class or even participate in the student part of student athlete. The college athletes would start to be glorified and treated like kings even though they are coming into their college as just

They are competing and giving everything they have for the love of their teammates, the love of their school, and above all, their love for the game. Especially when you take into the fact that these players are putting their bodies at risk for their school. A college football player for example, his body takes so much punishment on the football field and injuries absolutely happen and he isn’t getting paid to put his body on the line. What happens to these kids’ scholarships if they suffer a career ending injury? If they were receiving some sort of compensation they can help pay their way forward to having an education if they can’t play a sport again because of an injury. These same athletes are also getting stuck with the medical bills when they get hurt. For example at the University of Maine athletes are responsible for the first $10,000 in deductibles (Emmert, Mark 2014). How is this fair they aren’t even receiving any money to pay for this

Some people believe that college athletes should be paid by the school because of all of the hard work they put in however they shouldn’t be paid because there is no fair way to pay every college athlete.
