Recommended: College athletes getting paid

In today’s society there is a major argument going on around the topic of whether or not college athletes should be paid. This topic is debated amongst The NBA, NFL, ESPN etc. Some people disagree and some others agree on this debate. I strongly agree that college student athletes should be paid because major corporations like the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) take advantage of College Athletes.

The reason why the NCAA takes advantage of college athletes is because sports tend to make the most money in college , according to t a financial statement by the NCAA on Aug 31, 2017, the NCAA announced $1.045 billion in total income. The NCAA itself declared that it’s a billion dollar per year corporation. Meanwhile college athletes struggle by having to deal with School and keeping their degree also while conserving their sport. ESPN Staff Writer: Myron Medcalf wrote an Article on Ben Simmons which Ben Simmons Quoting. "Everybody's making money except the players. We're the ones waking up early as hell to be the best teams and do everything they want us to do and then the players get nothing. They say education, but if I'm there for a year, I can't get much education." He has a point of view on the student athlete life. Which explains why the NCAA It’s an unfair organization. Should college athletes receive pay for what they do? You’ve probably seen this pop-up a million times, and thought about it. You’ve probably figured why should they? Aren’t they already receiving benefits from a full-ride scholarship? But then an athlete will get caught up in a scandal like Johnny Manziel, where he signed footballs for money.. then you think well why shouldn’t he receive that money? And you then contradict yourself. But shouldn’t they receive money from outside sources, and then the benefits from the school. Not get a salary from the school just the benefits they’re already receiving, and money from sponsors. Wouldn’t that make sense considering the money they’re making the school? According to an ESPN report Alabama University makes $123,769,841 in total revenue from sports. (College Athletics Revenue) Yes ONE HUNDRED & TWENTY THREE MILLION. Yet an athlete from Alabama can only receive benefits from a scholarship.. That doesn’t seem right. You would want to be payed when the opportunity arises. It should only be fair these players get a piece of the revenue pie, after all they are the ones creating the revenue. The players should be getting benefits to allow them to pay for basic college needs, grow up to be responsible adults, and allow the NCAA to thrive.
