College Admissions Essay: My Passion For Medicine

Throughout most of my life I have had an immense passion for medicine and more specifically in neuroscience. It is this interest that has motivated me in my endeavor to go into the field of neurosurgery. The combination of my yearning to help people on a smaller individual scale and my interests has made this aspiration of mine surefire since the age of twelve. However, before I discovered my love of medicine, I had an interest in the field of science in its entirety. My young mind was curious and I found a more particular interest in a subset of science that all children marvel at, in the form of dinosaurs, paleontology. Unfortunately, I have very little time to set aside to read many books. Whether it be during the schoolyear when I must devote my time to my classwork or during the summer when I spend most of my time shadowing in the hospital. Yet despite these large time commitments I have found the time to read a few books. The most recent book that I have read, was Jurassic Park. I decided to read this book due to the movie version of it being by far my favorite movie. I can now confidently say that it is also my favorite book. It strayed from the movie in many ways, and I could simply not put this book down. The only downside to it is that it made my favorite movie look like a cheap knockoff of a story that had much more potential. I have also recently read The Maze Runner. Once again, I was inspired to read the book due to a very enjoyable movie. Set in a dystopian society, the government is trying to study the brains of children who are immune to a virus that is wiping out mankind. Although once again, a marvelous book soiled what I had previously thought was a fantastic movie. The third most recent book that I’ve read was Brave New World. I heard of this book through my sister who had read it through a course in her high school and the plot interested me. It is another book about a dystopian society in which the main character leaves the society to find people who are referred to as “Savages”, yet they just do not confine to society’s rules.
