The code of conduct, performance ethics is a document produced by the Health and care professional council. The contents of the document consist of duties in the form of standards which must be met by all registrants of the HCPC (including biomedical scientists). These standards can be located on the HCPC’s website at: http://www.hcpc-uk.org/assets/documents/10004EDFStandardsofconduct,performanceandethics.pdf.
These standards ensure that registrants provide a service with the interest of protecting both the service user and carers through the use of effective communication. They also ensure that the registrants work within their limits of practice while taking responsibility of the risks involved when carrying out procedures. Registrants

Respect confidentiality. This ensures that registrants are careful with information they have obtained from patients as well as disclosing information to other registrants. This applies to my practice since I must book in samples received from the wards. The information on the request form is transferred to a secure Laboratory Information management system known as Onmi-Lab and any unnecessary physical documents containing the patient’s private information is disposed in a secure confidential waste bin.
5. Delegate appropriately. This ensures that registrants delegate work only to members of staff that are competent in the duty. Delegated tasks should also be supervised with the appropriate amount of support. This is seen within my practice where I will be delegated to conduct the weekly maintenance. These duties are placed on me to conduct only once I have been properly trained. Once competency has been reached unit these duties I will still be supervised by a senior member of

Be open when things go wrong. This ensures that registrant is capable of taking full responsibility when things go wrong. This means they must be open to their service users and other registrants when a situation arises. They are then expected to deal with the concerns and complaints. This applies to my practice since like all humans; I am also capable of making mistakes. It is much better to reveal a problem instead of hiding it since it can cause devastating effects further down the line of diagnosis such as the patient receiving the wrong treatment.
9. Be honest and trustful. This ensures that registrants take responsibility for their faults and act with a sense of professionalism when dealing with the outcome to tell the truth. This applies to my practice because I have to get a CRB check before attending the placement. All questions must be answered truthfully even if there are further consequences.
10. Keep a record of your work. This ensures that registrants keep a record of all the work the conduct as well as keeping the record itself safe. This applies to my practice since I am producing a portfolio which records all the different duties which I perform as well as keeping a training competency log which details all the procedures that I have taken part
A code of ethics provides a standard by which nurses conduct themselves and their practice, observing ethical obligations of the profession and providing quality care. To achieve its purpose, a code of ethics must be understood, internalized, and used by nurses in all aspects of their work” (Aliakvari, 2015, p. 494).

Healthcare professionals in the medical office should be friendly and open. Patients entering the medical office should be greeted immediately with a smile and having a gentle touch also let the patient know you care. “Healthcare professionals in a medical office are held to a higher standard than most professions because they are dealing with the dignity of patients and the ability to be healed” (Wolff). Educating the staff to be professional in the medical office represents the office as being excellent in patient care. Patient-centered care success is required by the whole office which is treatment and patient experience, from the time they enter the office until they leave.
I feel is very important to be aware of the counter-transference, transference and boundaries issues around the treatment area. Knowing how to address these issues to the patient is also very important, this is something I have to work on.

Codes of practice help classify the quality of care clients can expect if they receive care services and they can be used as a source for measuring the quality of care provided. All care professions have code of practice, some codes of practice mainly give advice and guidance, whereas others can be used to measure the quality of care.
I think that doing the right thing and what is right for the patient while I’m in practice. I also will build on the mistakes that occur, and acknowledge that I made a mistake. From the mistake, I will learn on ways I can improve and not make the same mistake again. By keeping true to my word and being trustful to the patient and people around me, I will continue to grow in my integrity.
I would also make sure I practice within my area of expertise by developing and enhancing my professional expertise.
