Disney’s new movie “Frozen” has caught the eyes of viewers and has surprised us all, reaching No. 1 in the box Office and have pass over $300 million of tickets sold, this movie has no sign of slowing down any time soon. “Frozen’ is one of the few recent Disney films to capture the classic Disney script, like “Cinderella” or “Snow White”, it’s a heart warming and loving story, guaranteed to thaw a frozen heart. Unlike the usual Disney princess story line where the girl has a poor life or things just don’t turn out like there suppose to, they wish upon a star, fall in love, then bibbidi-bobbdi-boo they have a happily ever after. Frozen strayed off from tradition and decided to go for more of a different approach. True love has always been a key concept for Disney films. Sleeping Beauty, true loves kiss broke the spell, Beauty and the Beast, true love broke the curse, Snow White, again true love broke the spell, its the same concept, but in Frozen instead added a twist and showed love between sisters Elsa and Anna. It adds a twist in tradition, so that a reason why older viewers and even critics can enjoy, its something new and different. The movie “Frozen” is based off of “The Snow Queen”, a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The story is about an evil troll, also known as “the devil”, makes a mirror that when looked into distorts the beauty and good of people and things to the complete opposite, ugly and bad. One day the troll and his friends try to take the mirror to Heaven the make angels and God look like fools, but when they were almost there the mirror falls and shatters into little pieces almost dust. This “dust” travels around the world and gets into peoples eyes and into their hearts freezing them. Years later a girl n...
All of Pixar’s iconic films are inspired from small ideas drawn from aspects of everyday life. One of the most prominent inspirations was channeled into the film Finding Nemo. Andrew Stanton, a high ranking director and producer for Pixar, used his memories of a fish tank in a dentist’s office from his childhood as half of the story in Finding Nemo. Stanton’s sympathy for the fish and being an overprotective father served as the other half of the basic story and together the two memories formed the emotional anchor for the film. Another idea that spawned from a staff member helped create the unforgettable and heartfelt film Toy Story. John Lasseter, the chief creative officer of Pixar, owned many rare and collectible toys, and became nervous whenever his kids wanted to play with them. However, the real message, Lasseter realized, is just because a toy is signed by Tom Hanks, it does not mean that it is sentenced to life on a shelf. Channeling that type of thinking into all of the toys in Toy Story is what makes the film so cherished and more easily relatable. Another popular film is The Incredibles, which is Pixar’s tribute to pop mythology, comic books, and spy movies. The other inspiration for this movie deals with an average, everyday family life: the fear, anxiety, work, and insecurities that happen throughout a day. Combining the two aspects make for a very interesting, action-packed film, while also being very sincere and family-friendly. Pixar films were not all inspired from personal experience and passion. A documentary about the Rainforest Mountains in Venezuela made by Adrian Warren was the inspiration behind the movie Up. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and Pixar proves that anything can be ex...
The Three Here’s for Cooking The romantic comedy, Today’s Special, expressed the worries of Indian parents becoming at ease. Also, expressed the struggles a parent faces in search of a better life, the passion and dedication going unnoticed in the work field, and the connection between friends, a lover, and family. However, the film centered its attention more on the development of Samir’s “cold” cooking within the Indian food, with the help of Akbar. In addition, the main actors in the film looked the part and associated with the main idea of the culture of an Indian family. For instance, Samir’s appearance showed he had drifted away from his family’s culture and developed a professional understanding and love for the cooking industry.
The movie Doubt is set in a private Catholic School in 1960s. Sister Aloysius is the principal of the school, and Father Flynn is the clergyman in the church. While the movie deals with some moral dilemmas such as doubt versus certainty, rigidity versus openness and so on, the central theme of the story pivots on accusation on Father Flynn of child molestation. The story has a hanging ending where Father Flynn is proven neither guilty nor proven innocent. Based on the contents of the movie and my own analysis, I believe that certainty plays a bigger role in accusations and I believe that Father Flynn had been falsely blamed and I am also against the rigidity of the society.
His work in modern media was revolutionary. Moreover, he broadened communication and made it easier to learn about new cultures. Disney’s movies play a vital role in children’s development and their productivity when they enter the “real world”.
The widely popular film Shrek, produced and distributed by DreamWorks in 2001, grossed a total of $484,409,218 in worldwide sales (Box Office Mojo). The success of the film has led DreamWorks to create several shorts, companion films, and sequels. From its memorable characters to its whimsical, edgy humor, Shrek was an amazing, highly successful animation that would pave the way for DreamWorks to make billions off the franchise. Shrek’s success can be attributed to three main factors: the range of ages it appeals to, its creative use of intertextuality, and its ability to cover a wide range of the fairy tale functions proposed by Vladimir Propp.
Toy story, deemed as Pixar 's best film, launched a brand new era in filmmaking and gave birth to animations. In the Toy Story movie series, it showed the idea of animism where all objects possess a soul through humanlike behaviors of the toys. Pixar indicated this belief of animism by bringing the toys to life and giving them characteristics, which then concludes that they have a soul. These toys pretend to be inanimate objects when their owners are around and they come to life with a mind of their own when their owners are out of sight.
Launching a creation in the opportune moment can make or break the movie. This argument has been discussed and analyzed by numerous authors. Getting the moment right is every production firm’s aim to maximize on revenues. Disney has produced many films, some major successes and others a total failure. A film that suffered from poor moments of release albeit being a good production was The Lone Ranger. The film featuring Jonny Depp and Gore Verbinski was supposed to be a hit. It relied on the premise that the similarities in characters portrayed by Johnny Depp in the Pirates and The Lone Ranger would appeal to the audience. This was not the case. The Pirates moment was over and forgotten therefore leaning on that success was fallacious. Disney knows all too well that the right moment count, but this is a business out there to make money and be successful. This is why some of their major movie flops in the box office may seem influenced by timing among other factors but they still manage to plough in profits. This is discussed in detail by (Sahagian para 1-4)
Toy Story is the groundbreaking 1995 motion picture developed by Disney and Pixar and directed by John Lasseter. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature length animation to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also the film was more rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and three-dimensional but their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. The film uses a constructed text in order to put across a theme of two very different characters learning to work together beyond their rivalries to rise above a common enemy and work towards a common goal. The film uses characters and imagery very cleverly to portray this theme. The music used in the film is also different to other Disney features. Rather than the characters bursting into song themselves as in Aladdin or Hercules, the songs are played and sung by an outside person (Randy Newman) and reflect the mood and emotions of the characters in a particular scene. For example, the title sequence song “Friend in Me”, when Woody and Andy are playing together, and the scene where Andy’s room has been made over to a Buzz Lightyear theme, “Strange Things” where the song reflects Woody’s confusion and fear not only about the change in his surroundings but also the change in his friends and his own character and self-confidence. The attention to the smallest detail for example the reflections in Buzz’s visor give the film even more realism and depth. The use of unusual and imaginative camera angles, made possible by the use of CGI, also adds to the texture and pace of the film.
In 2006, Disney outright purchased Pixar for U$7.4 billion and the Pixar executives were the president and chief creator officers of Disney Animation, in addition to continuing to manage Pixar. This reorganization also affected many projects already underways, such as production entitled "American Dog" which was written by Chris Sanders. Eventually this production was rewritten and had some ideas moved around and eventually became "Bolt". Chris Sanders reportedly did not like a lot of the changes to the story and was eventually replaced by Chris Williams and Bryan Howard as directors for the movie.
It is often difficult to determine exactly what aspect of a movie pushes it the extra steps that take it from a well-received film to becoming a timeless classic. People base their idea of a film’s success on a wide variety of factors, from box office success and critical reception to how many awards it won, if any. One company that is no stranger to success on any level is Disney, and the people at Disney are especially well-versed in putting out animated features that do well not only in the box offices and eyes of critics, but in the hearts and minds of kids and parents alike who return time after time to experience the magic that comes alongside a Disney production. Therefore, it came as no surprise that Disney’s newest full-length animated film quickly rose to the highest position on the box office charts and remained there for quite some time, becoming the highest grossing animated film ever released in theatres. This movie, Frozen, quickly became a favorite among viewers, many returning time and time again to see the film before it was released from theatres, and is now hailed as the next great Disney classic, putting the movie alongside greats like The Little Mermaid and Cinderella. While Frozen does of course take a modern spin on the style of these well-known classics, it still has all of the elements that hoist such Disney greats to their position among the rest while still packing some new surprises that I believe make the movie Frozen one of the greatest, if not the greatest, Disney animated feature to date. Disney’s Frozen takes the classic framework, structure, and imagery of the original classics, adds some modern and even progressive twists, and ties it all together with a phenomenal and successful soundtrack to m...
