“The Coal Miners Wife” by Ben Shahn is a really great painting. The artist did a great job when he made this painting. There were a lot of things about it caught my attention. First the content of this painting is very well thought of. It takes someone who has a grasp of art, to understand the message the artist is trying to get to us. The painting tells the tale of a woman. Who’s husband has had died working at the coal mines. It is easy to verify this by the two men outside who have bought her the man’s Jacket. I also feel like that the message the painting was trying to send, was that too many men are dying in the coal mines, they need to find a way to make it safer.
Shahn was a great artist. He did an excellent job when it came to balancing the content, and form of the painting. The elements and principals of this painting are very well put together. The lines were used very well on this piece, and they guided me the whole way through the painting. When my eyes seen the painting I was immediately drawn to the woman who was standing there with the tears in her eyes. Then the line...
They are durable and inexpensive comparing to canvas. The artwork shows the happy emotions and realism with his interpretation of his wife and himself. Color theme of the painting was blue and background/negative space is dark blue. His right side of face is dark blue to show the shadow of his face and distance perspective. He used the black line which is stained glass like to separate the negative space/positive space. He used dark blue green for negative space on the Masonite board. Texture of oil painting is rough and we can trace of the paint brush stroke. They give the vivid or liveliness that he was well known of. The figures are realistic and impressionism style rather than photogenic. The title of paining and sub title of paining itself tell the story of artwork. Esther looks very relaxed, content and happy. Rattner looks happy , passionate, proud of himself as well. He certainly looks overcame the grief of death of his first wife. This painting gives warm feeling even though the theme color is cool color blue because of two figures of face expressions and relaxed body
Wayne, transforms this painting into a three dimensional abstract piece of art. The focal point of the painting are the figures that look like letters and numbers that are in the front of the piece of art. This is where your eyes expend more time, also sometimes forgiving the background. The way the artist is trying to present this piece is showing happiness, excitement, and dreams. Happiness because he transmits with the bright colours. After probably 15 minutes on front of the painting I can feel that the artist tries to show his happiness, but in serene calm. The excitement that he presents with the letters, numbers and figures is a signal that he feels anxious about what the future is going to bring. Also in the way that the colors in the background are present he is showing that no matter how dark our day can be always will be light to
Liu encountered these families during her four years in the countryside. The painting depicts two men, perhaps a father and son, working together to pull a boat upstream. Although the boat is not in the picture, one can sense the weight from the postures, effort and strength of the men. Two men are contrasted by small images of the fragile, precious snuff bottles and the delicate dragonfly in the corner, both traditional Chinese symbols. The painting shows the 2 men in perfect rhythm with the appearance of sweat falling from their efforts. The positive focus is the 2 men in the picture with many negative white and dark colors. I believe the artist wanted you to feel the darkness and the sadness of the men as they did what that had to do to survive. You can almost feel the pain as they stress their bodies to the limits. I was truly intrigued by this piece of work, and would love to learn more about the artist’s
The face of the portrait is detailed, and more naturally painted than the rest of the composition. However, the left iris exceeds her eye and extends past the normal outline. The viewer can see every single brush stroke resulting in a unique approach to the capturing human emotion. The streaky texture combines with the smoothness flow of the artist’s hand creating contrast between the hair and the face. The woman’s hair is painted with thick and chunky globs of paint. The viewer can physically see the paint rising from the canvas and flowing into the movement of the waves of hair. Throughout the hair as well as the rest of the portrait Neel abandons basic painting studies and doesn’t clean her brush before applying the next color. Because of the deliberate choice to entangle the colors on the brush it creates a new muddy palate skewed throughout the canvas. Moving from the thick waves of hair, Neel abandons the thick painting style of the physical portrait and moves to a looser more abstract technique to paint the background. Despite the lack of linear perspective, Neel uses a dry brush technique for the colorful streaks in the background creating a messy illusion of a wall and a sense of space. The painting is not clean, precise, or complete; there are intentional empty spaces, allowing the canvas to pear through wide places in the portrait. Again, Neel abandons
My initial thought about this painting is that it seems to be incorrect. The reflection in the mirror shows that the lady is looking in the direction of the man standing in front of her. If the lady is looking at the man their reflections should not be off to the side. The second observation is the lady is sad or disappointed and is looking past the man standing in front of her. My last observation is there are three sections from left to right; bottles and the audience, the lady, and the reflections of the lady and man. The most interesting concept about this artwork is how the reflections seem to be inaccurate. If the bottles and the reflections of the lady and the man standing in front of her are at an angle, then why are the vertical lines perpendicular to each other?
The composition of this painting forces the eye to the woman, and specifically to her face. Although the white wedding dress is large and takes up most of the woman’s figure, the white contrasts with her face and dark hair, forcing the viewer to look more closely into the woman’s face. She smokes a cigarette and rests her chin on her hands. She does not appear to be a very young woman and her eyes are cast down and seem sad. In general, her face appears to show a sense of disillusionment with life and specifically with her own life. Although this is apparently her wedding day, she does not seem to be happy.
A work of art seeks to fulfill various functions hence, the poem gives me a critical and rational outlook; elicits various emotions and the danger brought by lack of strength and hope while striving for humanity.
A piece of art is analyzed by the viewer which is presented at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston Texas. This particular piece is displayed in the Al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait. The item number is Inv. no. LNS 106 MS. The title provided by the museum informs the viewer that, this is a 17th century album page from Mughal dominions, India; which is made with Ink, colors, and gold on a paper. The painter used these materials and the overall theme of the art work to convey the message to the viewer that, the Mughals king is braver, powerful, and wealthy. In this painting a Mughal king or prince is hunting lions in the wild with his men. To show the importance of the scene, the painter put three rectangular borders around the artwork. Each border is of different size, color, and texture.
...retation of the painting some aspects were surprising to how dark and heavy hearted she could speak, she took an interesting perspective. However in her interpretative poem she found a perspective of the painting that connected with her. As she used every stroke of darkness painted into the canvas an opportunity to have it symbolize this darkness and evil that resides in the world. It told her story and her experience of a starry night. Similarly Van Gogh had used every stroke of light painted into the canvas to be a symbol of beauty, and a symbol of his fascination of the night sky and its illuminating lights. He uses swift movements of his brush to depict a sky that seem to be able to sweep the mind away from the frustrations of this world in to the dreamy night light. A single painting worth a million words tells many stories through every perspective.
When first approaching this work, one feels immediately attracted to its sense of wonder and awe. The bright colors used in the sun draws a viewer in, but the astonishment, fascination, and emotion depicted in the expression on the young woman keeps them intrigued in the painting. It reaches out to those who have worked hard in their life and who look forward to a better future. Even a small event such as a song of a lark gives them hope that there will be a better tomorrow, a thought that can be seen though the countenance by this girl. Although just a collection of oils on a canvas, she is someone who reaches out to people and inspires them to appreciate the small things that, even if only for a short moment, can make the road ahead seem brighter.

Gubar’s piece on female creativity allows the book The Good Women of China to be read through a more critical lens. Women in the piece are consistently taking a back seat to their stories until they are given the opportunity to share and be told that their experience is important. What Xin Ran offers to these women is a change to be heard. It allows them to be the painter and their tormentors the subject. One woman in particular, Jin Shuai, talks critically of the world she lives in and offers a modern insight into the tragic backbone of the other women’s stories.
The lines, mostly curved, are in great harmony details. The color from both outside and inside could be changed as the light from the sun moves. The flowers and Koran written on the walls and the gate give people who visiting wondering of what is that means. As the visitors walked pass each area, I think they would imagine of what each areas mean from the story of Taj Mahal. From the video, I think some sights of Taj Mahal create sorrowing sights.
I cower not at the sight of Man In A Red Turban, witnessing the affect of time upon my flesh and soul; rather feel empowered knowing that I will live a life where nothing is lost upon me, an escapade of new sensations. When time has made me brother of Man In A Red Turban I will look upon his eyes, the very same eyes from my youth, with elation because I shall have lived a life not constrained by borders or by the limits of my spectator rather of free will and engagement. Knowing that time has made me strong and potent while you, the man in the portrait, feed on dust and superstition, I shall find contentment. The absolute subjugation of the weak and faithlessness you are because, man in portrait, if they refuse to believe in you do you even exist? Jan Van Eyck is a master for this. The man in the portrait isn’t real but yet he exist for me, I know this to be so. Why? Eyck’s prowess as an artist, a painter, he has captured reality and bestowed life where once absent—God. The painting shall continue to exist for it’s the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors. In doing so, Jan Van Eyck, the portrait and the spectator become one and the palace they inhabit their
This art work is very controversial in my opinion. When first looking at the subject matter of the art, I had no emotion towards the piece. Just looking at it I just see a representation of the female genitals. Although After discovering the content of the piece I felt proud. The piece made me feel proud and powerful for being a woman, looking around the table at all the different names of women who have made so many great accomplishments throughout history.
