At the end of practice, athletes need a cool down and stretching period. Though it is often tempting to cut this time short in order to practice additional drills, coaches should never skimp on cool down and stretching. To do so encourages athletes to develop bad habits and puts them at risk for injury and increased soreness. The girls never cool down after practice. Furthermore, there will be times when a coach needs to change or cancel a practice. To be prepared, they should designate alternate locations for practices in case of bad weather, utility issues, or other unforeseen circumstances. This location should be communicated with parents and guardians at the beginning of the season.

The coach should come prepared with information on the practice space, including the emergency exits, location of stairs, elevators, and regular exits, and the location of key spaces, such as bathrooms. Coaches should also come to practice with information on the medical history of each athlete. In case of emergency, coaches should have the following information handy: athlete’s age, previous medical conditions, basic family history, preferred hospital, and emergency contacts. This information can be carried on note cards or electronically, but it should be easily retrieved in a crisis. To be fully prepared for volleyball practice, coaches should practice what they would do in the event of an emergency. Such practice should include identifying the problem, notifying emergency personnel, attending to injured athletes and staff, and protecting unharmed athletes. I expect athletes to work on improving themselves using the program that I will develop for them. I believe that I must lead by example. I also believe that if I am not improving as a coach, then I am holding our players and program back. I will make sure I have at least two assistant coaches. I will develop an improvement program for myself and for my assistant coaches at the end of each season. I will develop a summer workout plan for each athlete. A coach is only as good as his or her players allow. Having a unique plan for each player will force one to think about how that player will be able to contribute in the coming season. I will spend time putting my drills, offensive and defensive schemes, philosophies and everything else about my program in writing. Making sure to include the specific teaching points, purpose, and objectives for each. Having my system in writing will allow me to share it with assistants and provides better clarity. A personal trainer works with an individual to help them gain a better physique and a better exterior but an athletic trainer is a healthcare professional who takes care of sports injury or athletic related injuries. They are one of the first healthcare providers on the scene when injuries occur whether in an official game or practice. Their duties and responsibilities include but not limited to treating injuries for people of all ages, apply protective or injury devices such as tapes, bandages, and braces. They specialize in prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal injuries. They are trained in recognizing, preventing, and managing, and rehabilitating injuries that may have result from physical activities. When players are in the best shape possible then they are less susceptible to major injuries that might occur. During practice optimal motivation and excitement need to be given to players to not only insure they progress in their skill aptitude, but also to make the environment fun, creative, and innovative for all athletes involved. Martens specifically describes the “flow experience” as an “optimal” time where players aren’t too anxious or under motivated to perform (Martens, 108). Coaches can heed this advice by planning light, medium, and intense exercise drills, changing the modes of exercise, changing the environment, or through utilizing the teaching principle called the “games approach” (Martens, 154). If the “games approach” is used then the monotony of training will decrease because fun tactical activities based around in game situations will be used instead of repetitive technique drills that often bore players and inspire them to quit a sport early in season. Coaching, however challenging, is a great way to influence the lives of others while also building their character. For as long as there have been sports, there have been people teaching the sport to the players and making them better at it. Coaches must have certain qualities in order to obtain success. One must also look at a coach’s motivation for his job, his passion for what he does, his methods for coaching, and how he became a coach in order to fully understand him. There are many questions someone may want to ask a coach about his profession if they are interested in coaching.

My personal philosophy is: I am a coach because of my love for the game and my wanting to teach this passion to others. I believe that playing a sport will not only prepare a child to win, but also for life and the challenges that come with it. I will strive to help every athlete to compete to the best of their ability, while ensuring that are learning skills that will later on better them in their everyday lives.
During these moments, the coach can provide resources and offer their assistance to help relieve some of the anxiety they may feel. If the coach asks open-ended questions they will be able to gage the teachers’ thoughts and their needs. Lastly, coaches must be able to have teachers buy in to the coaching cycle if they wish to be effective. This effective strategy helps to develop and sustain a positive working relationship, which helps to ensure success for both parties. Coaches are a resource and often times a problem solver for the teacher (Stock & Duncan, 2013).
