I watched many videos about how to become a certified clinical nutritionist, I read a lot of books about how a clinical nutritionist can help patients with IBS, IBD, leaky gut plans a healthy diet. After reading the modules from week one through week three, I learned lots of things about the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, how to apply the behavior change theory. This week I spend a lot time learning about the Digestive system, especially about celiac disease and Inflammatory bowel disease. I had a better understanding about the use of integrative therapies in treating disorders like Cholecystitis, Cholestasis,Gallstones, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Before the reading the digestive system materials, I knew about different disorders like IBS and IBD, but now I had a better understanding about their pathophysiology, different approaches for treating these different disorders. I had a better understanding about the integrative therapies used for treating these different disorders.I had a better understanding about the difference between Ulcerative colitis and Crohns disease. A very dear friend of mine her son is suffering from crohns disease, he was recently diagnosed with crohns disease, Last year he got very sick and have been going from a doctor to a doctor, He has to cut all of the fiber from his diet, lost lots of weight, was put on a calorie restriction. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. In the United States, nutrition screening is a part of inpatient admission. The Joint Commission requires a nutritional screening to be completed within 24 hours of inpatient admission (Treas & Willkinson, 2014). Proper nutrition is important for staying healthy and is particularly vital for the elderly. For the purpose of this week discussion this learner will concentrate on explaining the health status of a 81 year old patient who presented at the primary care for a routine visit. We observed the patient height is around 72 inches and weight is 135 ponds. We will calculate the patient Body mass index (BMI) and interpret the result. In June of this year my family physician placed me on a doctor assisted weight loss program that enabled me to eat my favorite foods but in appropriate proportions and in heathier ways. The best part about Supertracker is that it gives me wonderful tools to support me in understanding and meeting my goals. Once I created a profile through Supertracker I was provided a personal plan to follow including the amount of grains, vegetables, fruits, and protein I needed to be successful. For three consecutive days, I entered my food and activity intake into Supertracker and was able to analyze the excesses and deficiencies
I think this project was a great opportunity for me to learn how to educate and guide patient’s in making better nutritional decisions with the help of my using MyFitness Pal. I think MyFitness Pal is an excellent resource for any patient that is interested in improving their nutrition. Nutrition is often neglected by patient 's, therefore, as dental professionals it is important to use the latest technology to attract our patient’s to become more interested in their nutrition. The positive impact of this project has encouraged me to recommend using MyFitness Pal to my patient 's as a hands on activity to help correlate nutrition and the patient’s overall health. This project also allowed me to become aware of the poor food choices I made, which will help to benefit my patient’s that have a similar diet.
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.

Unfortunately, money talks and the USDA’s recommendations are based on outdated science and are influenced by people with business interest. Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
Nutrition is an important key to learn and understand in your life while you get older. Many people do not know the proper diet and exercise to keep their body healthy and strong. Throughout this course, I have learned information on different kinds of vitamins, carbohydrates, amino acids and other helpful diets. After reading and logging my dietary log for a week it has helped me re-organize my diet and health. I have learned about how to personally manage my exercise and diet and I am seeing some good results because of what I learned from this class. I started to see what I was missing in my diet and started to know what quantity and quality was for your diet. I also took a leap into my family health history to see what I need to change
Food is one of the necessities of life in order to survive. Everyone has different views on what to eat and different eating habits. People are so busy in their everyday life that they don’t keep track of what they eat on a daily basis. However, it is important to understand the role of nutrition. Nutrition and exercise are vital to maintain physical health. Proper nutrition is required by our body for energy, growth, maintenance, and repair (Grodner, Roth, & Walkingshw, 2012). Even the brain requires nutrients in order for a person to be intellectually healthy. Along with nutrition, exercise can be controlled by an individual. Exercise helps to strengthen bones and muscles, control weight, improves mental health and mood, reduces risk for cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and some cancers, and overall increases the chances of living longer (CDC). For this assignment, I kept a food journal by tracking what I ate and the amount of exercise on a daily basis on a food tracker for three weeks. The purpose of that was to analyze my diet and exercise in more depth in order to determine the amount of vitamins, minerals, fat, protein, carbohydrates, and calories I am eating daily. Based on the results, I made some modifications.
I chose to have the same meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner for three days, not in a row, of course. So day one, two and three will look the same; it is roughly what I consume on a regular basis, I really didn’t have to alter my meals much at all, only to make sure I had the same meals each day.
