The climate in the Southern Colonies was the warmest of the English colonies. The warm climate made it possible to grow crops throughout the year. The land was flat and the soil was rich. Tobacco and rice were the two most important cash crops. The climate was ideally suited for plantations where slaves did the manual labor. Most of the southerners were from England, so the church of choice was the anglican church. Economics The Southern Colonies economy was mostly agricultural because if the crops did well, then so did the economy. Also, because of agriculture being mostly the major source of the economy, there were a lot of farms and plantations. Another thing that the Southern Colonies depended on for their economy was exporting materials
