During the colonial era, England founded the Thirteen colonies.Puritans established New England for religious freedom.Settlers went to the southern region to find gold.New England and the south have similarities and differences in their geography, culture, and economy.

The geography in New England and the South were very different. The south had longer growing seasons for large farms called plantations. The plantations were far from one another. Colonists grew tobacco and corn using slave labor (Doc 6). Counter to the South,New England had harsh winters and warm summers. As a result New England did not have large farms. The colonist lived in towns and cities.Therefore New England geography and southern geography were very different.
