Extra! Extra! Climate Change Causing Detrimental Effects on Generations!
Decrease, Endangered, Extinction, all words that could possibly describe the predicament that the earth is in today. The respected scientist Carl Sagan once said that “no one is coming from anywhere else to save us” which means only us humans can solve this growing environmental problem and save mother earth from destruction. This is why I have travelled from the year 2016 back to the 19 century to notify you that change starts now. Look at what’s in front of you, the booming city, new inventions and production making life feel at it’s zenith. Years from now, all of those machinery and production that you thought was making life easier diverges into a severe problem. The environment is deteriorating from fossil fuel emissions, and the release of carbon into the atmosphere causing a greenhouse effect which is detrimental to earth’s health. One of the biggest threats us humans have now is the rising temperatures, and fossil fuel emissions into the atmosphere.

Currently in our world today, we are breaking records for hottest temperatures left and right. According to the video, Climate Change Explained, “Global temperatures have risen 1.7 degrees fahrenheit since the 1880’s”. You may look at that number and not think anything of it. Like why would only 1.7 degrees fahrenheit make such a big impact? In another article titled “July Was The Hottest Month Recorded”, Jason Samenow states that “this warming is a steady trend that is expected to continue”. With temperatures steadily increasing, glaciers and ice caps will soon melt and in fact already are melting. If all the polar ice caps and glaciers in the world were to melt, sea levels would rise drastically covering numerous cities and towns. All the production and all the hard work would literally drown because of our own
The planet we live in, the earth is a tiny composition in this huge universe. It has diversities ranging from highly variant temperature and pressure belts as well as various ecosystem types. One such remarkable feature of the earth is the polar ice caps. There are three major prominent features, the Antarctic ice on the South Pole, the Arctic ice on the North Pole and Greenland on the north between North America and Europe. Antarctica consist about 90 percent of the world's ice (and 70 percent of its fresh water). It is covered with ice an average of 2,133 meters (7,000 feet) thick. If all of the Antarctic ice melted, sea levels around the world would rise about 61 meters (200 feet). The Arctic ice is not so thick in comparison and it mostly floats in the Arctic Ocean. Greenland, on the other hand would add another 7 meters (20 feet) to the oceans if it melted because Greenland is closer to the equator than Antarctica, the temperatures there are higher, so the ice is more likely to melt. Scientists from the Universities of London and Edinburgh say that ice loss in Antarctica and Greenland together contribute approximately 12 percent of the rise in sea levels. The melting of these enormous ice bodies can significantly impact the global changes in climate and reversely, this climate changes also impact the melting of the ice bodies. It is a two way process and the causes are mostly anthropogenic.
Pollution is affecting many individuals and life, as we know it. We need to do something about how it’s affecting our world. That’s why I urge the issue that more people should realize that pollution is an issue that needs to be prevented because of its negative consequences. Which are health affects, the total destruction of environments, and the death of animals and plants. More awareness must be brought up amongst the people and they must realize the long-term benefits it has for the world.
“Climate Change Will Force the Relocation of Populations” by Oli Brown states that melting glaciers will increase the risk of flooding. Oli Brown works for the Human Development Report Office. Not only do melting glaciers add water into the ocean it also loses it 's effect on the sun rays. Some States in the United States would be under water or flooded. For examples Florida, New York and New Orleans would be the states affected the most. If sea levels rise, people will have to move inland.
The desperate plight of the environment should by all means be the first priority for every single government and person on this planet. With today’s common knowledge of what might happen in the near future if significant changes aren’t made in the lifestyle of most people it’s hard to understand why 70 million cars continue to vomit their poison into the air everyday. All around the world environmental activists fight to preserve our patches of rain forests and wetlands, as well as protect a variety of fragile but important ecosystems. In all major cities, advocates of environmental conservation annually propose plans with alternative modes of transportation and energy-efficient appliances that will every citizen would be mandated to use. Even if instituted gradually, these ch...
Have you ever pondered the idea of why every year the temperature of our atmosphere rises? I have done tons of research and I am pleased to say I will be sharing my findings with you! Humans are the leading cause of global climate changes but little do they know everyday activities they participate in are the main offenders. From cutting down trees to driving gasoline powered cars, these activities can cause major changes in our global climates! As the very intelligent Bill Gates states “Climate change is a terrible problem, and it absolutely needs to be solved. It deserves to be a huge priority.” Three major problems that lead to climate changes are deforestation, the burning of fossil fuels, and the use of hydro-carbons in aerosol cans.
Along with being aware about air pollution, we should also be aware about ozone concentrations and fossil fuel burning. The public should be concerned with ozone concentrations because they are constantly increasing. Ozone levels are increasing because of the heat and pollution. The public should be informed on how to reduce pollution and heat. Some steps the public can take to reduce pollution are to use public transportation and electric vehicles, conserve energy and recycle. Moreover, planting more plants will reduce heat and decrease ozone levels. Ozone is considered “bad” when found in the lower troposphere because it leads to many health effects in humans. Breathing ozone can cause bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma. Therefore, humans should stay indoors in the afternoon during the summer months. “Bad” Ozone also damages our crops and forests, affecting our food chain and the economy. Ozone is considered “good” in the Stratosphere because it protects us from dangerous ultraviolet rays released by the sun. Ozone in the Stratospheres protects us from conditions such as skin cancer and cataracts. Furthermore, ozone in the atmosphere protects our crops, thus playing
Glaciers covered the earth and are still here today. 200 years in the future, these glaciers will be very small or gone. If these glaciers have lasted 21,000 plus years, why can they not last for another 200 years? With growing society and quickly advancing technology, new ideas and experiments will only get bigger and better. With the upsides of new discoveries comes the downside of polluting our atmosphere with gases that are not good for the environment. Unhealthy gases for the atmosphere are the reasons for global warming. Glaciers are very deep and very large. If every glacier in this world melted, sea level would be indescribably high. High sea level does not only bring the risk of destruction higher but it also increases the risk of injury. Sharks, whales, jelly fish, etc. are very dangerous creatures. Higher sea level will bring them closer to shore putting more people at risk of injury. Although this does not affect us majorly, people in the future need to be
Because the Earth is slowly warming up, heat waves, for example, have been occurring more frequently and for longer durations. According to the Climate Communications, “In 2010, 19 countries set new all-time record high temperatures, but not a single country set a new all-time record…” (Overview). Comparing this to Gore’s speech, eighteen countries have experienced all new highs in heat since the European heat wave in 2003. This increase in temperature is due to the shifting of the climates in specific regions as an after effect of global warming.
PURPOSE: To persuade my audience that we must take action now to control air pollution
Snow. Many people see it as an opportunity to have fun but other people like me, see it as an opportunity to make money. Specifically getting paid to plow snow. Every year i make a little money doing it along with others. People have the ability to make bank on snow if they know what to do with it, most people just choose not to do anything with it and i guess its there loss.
According to Proxy Climatic and Environmental Changes of the Past 1000 Years, at procon.org “A 2003 study by researchers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics found that many records reveal that the 20th century is probably not the warmest nor a uniquely extreme climatic period of the last millennium.” Sure, but if people keep diving cars and wasting energy. That causes CO2 which is making the temperature rise faster. And according to “What’s the hottest Earth has been lately?, by climate.gov they say that “Throughout its 4.54-billion-year history, Earth has experienced multiple periods of temperatures hotter than today’s.
Thanks to U.S space-agency NASA's ominous new warning on the perils of climate change, the world is gung-ho for "going green" again. NASA's Steve Nerem declared at a press call on August 27 that, "Data shows the sea level is rising faster than it was 50 years ago, and it's very likely to get worse in the future." Consequently, the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) slated for December will, presumably, be mankind's last chance to "cut a deal to avoid 2 degrees Celsius of global warming," and keep us away from its "truly awful effects." Additionally, a combative climate change manifesto, sponsored by Noam Chomsky and Desmond Tutu among others, has surfaced, and demands a "radical change in the global economy" to save the human civilization.
Imagine living on the East Coast of the United States in the "Big Apple", and being able to see the Statue of Liberty from you penthouse window. Every morning you wake up and notice that the island it sits on is slowly shrinking in size. The next thing you know the water is at Lady Libery's feet, and eventually the streets you walk on begin to disapper. Imagine this happening all in a week's time, scary right?
Is Executing innocent people acceptably low? The death penalty subject itself is a controversial issue that incites a lot of mixed feelings. Often when I have discussions on the subject the most common statement made is that the punishment should fit the crime. What if the person convicted did not commit this crime and is actually innocent?
Thesis: Due to the alteration in weather patterns, the extreme natural disasters, and melting ice caps that could lead to the Earth’s demise, humanity should take action to avert climate change. The weather patterns of the world have changed, providing proof for global climate change. Carbon dioxide and temperature levels show a direct relationship as they have developed a recent trend of rapid increase. These levels of rise and fall during Earth rotation around its axis, as there’s more land mass in the Northern Hemisphere.
