Climate includes temperature, rainfall, wind and other weather conditions over a larger region and on a longer time frame unlike weather. On the other hand, change is the act or a process through which something becomes different. In lame man’s language, climate change is the alteration of weather conditions in a huge area over a long period of time. Hence, this concept is usually referred to as the concept of global climate change. According to the UNDP (2009), climate change is a scientifically proven phenomenon that includes any change in the climate, whether due to its natural variability or as a result of human activity. UNFCCC (1992), defines climate change as change which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activities that …show more content…
If so, how do they perceive and understand it. Perception is the process of attaining awareness or understanding of a phenomenon including climate change (Seyoum, 2015). According to Babitski (2010:1), “the role of the human perception is one of the most important questions. If we understood how a human perceives and operates information, we would more precisely make the future forecasts and increase our efficiency”. Studying the way people perceive various environmental phenomena is very critical in the formulation of decisions about environmental phenomena. A lot of studies have been done in regard to climate change perception across the …show more content…
By contrast, almost none believed they had decreased or that the temperature range had altered due to climate change, apart from some in Ethiopia. The results for precipitation showed a similar uniformity of opinion across the ten countries. In six out of ten countries, majority of the people believed rainfall levels had decreased and a change in the timing of the rains. All the above mentioned examples show the importance of understanding climate change at a local or indigenous versus the global or scientific understanding about perceptions of climate
Climate change describes the changes that are happening to the planet in different countries or regions (NASA, n.d.). Climate change is caused by global warming,
Climate change is the change in the “average weather” in a specific location. This can include temperature, precipitation, wind, humidity, and the different seasons. Climate change is caused by the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse
The effects of climate are felt throughout the world, all living things are affected with it. The effects of climate change are affecting directly the human life. It has been noticed that around the globe, seasons are shifting, temperatures are climbing and sea levels are rising. The world compares to century ago, it has changed drastically and it is becoming worse with climate change. Climate change will rapidly alter the lands and waters which we all depends upon for survival which will leave our children thus the future generation with a different world. In the time to come if not much is done for the case of climate change, There will be shortage of food and drinks, many new illnesses and diseases and some part of the world will become in appropriate for living things to live due to natural disaster. It can be that with the rapid Global warming and climate change, one-fourth of Earth’s species could be headed for extinction by the year 2050.
Climate change, otherwise known as global warming, has grown more apparent in recent years, with increased natural disasters, significantly warmer temperatures and unreasonably long seasons. Global warming is one of the main concerns that scientists have been researching for the past century. Scientific evidence shows that global warming is caused by human behaviors. Due to the amount of human-induced carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that have been released into the air, the earth is becoming a highly poisonous place to live on. Earth’s climate has been constantly changing ever since the Industrial Revolution, when innovations began and factories were built, which emitted mass air pollution. As more technological advances continued the years after, the amount of carbon dioxide in the air also increased. According to the UPI Space Daily News, “Global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) - the main cause of global warming - increased by 45% between 1990 and 2010, and reached an all-time high of 33 billion tonnes in 2010” (Writers 1). The 1900s through the 2000s is the time period in which humans caused the most air pollution by creating vehicles and other industrial machinery. In the contemporary time period, human activities that contribute to climate change consist of hydraulic fracturing, rice cultivation, the increase of fossil fuel burning, and the rise of deforestation.
Climate change occurs when there is a significant variance in the climate which last for several decades or longer and not for a short period of time. Climate change includes changes in elements such as temperature, precipitation and wind patterns.
Climate change has been nothing, but controversial in the last fifty years. Climate change is a change in the average weather of a region or city. Scientists have opted to use the term "climate change" instead of global warming because as the Earth's average temperature changes, winds and ocean currents move heat around the globe in ways that can cool some areas, as well as warm others. There is an ongoing dispute about the effects of humans on the global climate and about what policies should be implemented to avoid possible undesirable effects of climate change. Ninety-seven percent of published scientific research concluded that climate change is real, problematic for the planet, and has been exacerbated by human activity. But what about the three percent that contradicts that?
Due to climate changes, we are a “gradual and uncertain rather than immediate and obvious” process, we as humans cannot understand it (Jamieson, 102). In addition, climate change effects have no geographical bounds and because very few people pay attention to events that occur beyond national boundaries, most people are oblivious to its existence. Jamieson makes the point that climate change must be thought rather than sensed, and we as humans are not very good at thinking (Jamieson, 103). On top of that, even if we succeed in thinking that something is a threat, we are less reactive than if we sense that it is a threat. Since we cannot even comprehend climate change's presence in our world right now, it also makes it extremely difficult for us to comprehend how our anthropogenic actions of today will affect future generations all over the world.
Climate change is a long-term change in regional or global climate patterns. From the mid twentieth century to now, there has mostly been a significant increase in average global temperatures. Climate change is a major issue in the world today, and a lot of people feel very differently about the cause of it. The common argument is whether climate change is a natural occurrence or if the recent increase in temperatures is because of humans. Climate change is a natural cycle in the Earth’s weather.
This could be a change in how much rain a place usually gets in a year. Or it could be a change in a place 's usual temperature for a month or season” (Dunbar). Climate change is a very serious problem that everyone should be working on to find a solution for it. For the reason being that the effects of climate change can be devastating to everyone and our environment. People will be affected in different ways, some may even benefit from climate change if they live in temperate zones. They may profit from milder winters, more rainfall and more crop production zones. The other people would suffer from elevated heat waves, coastal erosion, rising sea level, more erratic rainfall, and droughts. Poor regions of the world will be greatly affected by it since the would be able to provide themselves with protection from the heat waves and other impacts, this will most likely lead to losing a great number of our human population in our
Climate change is one of the most discussed topics of the twenty-first century. Although this subject is very often on the daily basis of lots of people, most of them do not know much about it. So let us define climate change. People think that climate change is the same thing as global warming. However, global warming only represents one aspect of climate that is temperature. Climate change is any significant change in temperature, precipitation, or a wind pattern that occur over several decades or longer.
As defined by the Oxford dictionary, climate change is, “a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.” (Oxford Dictionaries) Moreover, evidence of climate change can be found all over the world, and in many different forms, but is especially prevalent in certain regions. For instance, in Southeast Asia, specifically the nation of the Philippines, signs of climate change can be observed frequently, if not regularly. One major ...
Climate Change is any substantial change in climate that lasts for an extended period of time. One contributor to current climate change is global warming, which is an increase in Earth’s average temperature. Plants and animal species throughout the world are being affected by rising temperatures. Many plants are flowering earlier now than they once did; animals, such as the yellowbellied marmot, are emerging from hibernation earlier; and many bird and butterfly species are migrating north and breeding earlier in the spring than they did a few decades ago, all because of slight changes in temperature cues. (Shuster)
According to the Canada’s Action on Climate Change, Climate change is a long-term shift in weather conditions identified by changes in temperature, precipitation, winds, and other indicators. Climate change can involve both changes in average conditions and changes in variability, including, for example, extreme events. Climate change is one of the biggest crisis in the earth. It will cause a huge damage to the eco-system and human. We are the victims of the climate change. However, we are the one who cause the climate change.
Climate change is the long-term shift in weather patterns in a specific region or globally. Climate change refers to changes in a regions overall weather patterns. These include temperature changes, precipitation and cloud cover (www.ecolife.com).
Climate change is caused due to the release of few carbon compounds into the atmosphere, which drastically brought the weather changes all over the world. Climate change is not confined to a single region. It has become an important issue all over the world for the past few years.
