Opposing Views on Climate Change
Climate change is one of the greatest problems that our society faces today. This issue has been the topic of many debates between the Democrats and Republicans. According to a recent poll taken in July of this year, seventy-one percent of Democrats believe that the Earth’s climate is warming due to human activity, while only twenty-seven percent of Republicans this. Democrats and Republicans have different views, but climate change is very real and needs to be slowed down.
Climate change is the change in the “average weather” in a specific location. This can include temperature, precipitation, wind, humidity, and the different seasons. Climate change is caused by the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse
gasses into our atmosphere. When these greenhouse gasses are trapped in our atmosphere the sun heats them up causing heat to be trapped in and our surface temperatures to rise. Although greenhouse gasses are naturally released on earth by, animals, water, volcanoes and other factors; human interactions have caused a huge spike in the release of these gasses. One factor in the spike of greenhouse gasses are the CO2 emissions from automobiles. Even though there are regulations on these emissions, they are not perfect and still release CO2. Over the past one-hundred years the average global temperature has risen about 1.54 degrees Fahrenheit The Democrats view climate change as a very serious issue. They view the greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere to be a result of human actions such as burning fossil fuels. Democrats also believe that climate change is directly correlated with global warming which is the rise in the earth temperatures, the loss of our world’s ecosystems such as artic regions, rising sea levels which is connected to the loss of our polar ice caps, and more severe weather conditions such as hurricanes and droughts. Republicans view climate change as a not so serious issue. They believe that climate change is a natural process and that human interaction has nothing to do with the increase of greenhouse gasses. Also, the republicans believe that many of the scientific findings have been caused by faulty climate predicting technology, uncertain measurements, and misleading data.
Climate change describes the changes that are happening to the planet in different countries or regions (NASA, n.d.). Climate change is caused by global warming,
Climate Change has become an incredibly controversial topic because of the bid to win votes. As with any successful political party, capital and supporters are needed to fund and support campaigns and activities to secure votes. The Democratic and Republican parties have taken opposite sides of the ring regardless of scientific proof. In relation to global warming, the Democrats represent the environmentalists in the green corner and the Republicans represent the current energy tycoons in the red corner. The two opposing parties are simply trying to one up each other with each rhetorical combination thrown. The more irrational or misconstrued the rhetoric, the more the crowd rooting for each fighter reacts and the more independents rally to
Climate change, is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time. These times can be anywhere from decades to millions of years. The Earth’s climate has constantly been changing throughout history. Climate change can be dated back to over 650,000 years ago. Most of the changes that happened before 7,000 years ago happened because of small variations in Earth’s orbit that change the amount of solar energy the earth planet receives. Even though climate change is natural, people are speeding up the process at which it occurs by polluting. Climate change has many impacts all over the world and its effects are evident. People can still slow down the process at which climate change
Throughout history climates have drastically changed. There have been shifts from warm climates to the Ice Ages (Cunningham & Cunningham, 2009, p.204). Evidence suggests there have been at least a dozen abrupt climate changes throughout the history of the earth. There are a few suspected reasons for these past climate changes. One reason may be that asteroids hitting the earth and volcanic eruptions caused some of them. A further assumption is that 22-year solar magnetic cycles and 11-year sunspot cycles played a part in the changes. A further possibility is that a regular shifting in the angle of the moon orbiting earth causing changing tides and atmospheric circulation affects the global climate (Cunningham & Cunningham, 2009, p.205). Scientific studies suggest that all these played a role in past global warming and cooling periods. Today, however, there is a lot of conflict on whether humans are causing a global warming that could be disastrous to humans and all species of plants and animals on this earth. This paper will first explain the greenhouse effect, then take a look at both sides argument, and, finally, analyze the effect of global warming on world-wide sustainability
Climate change is a long-term change in regional or global climate patterns. From the mid twentieth century to now, there has mostly been a significant increase in average global temperatures. Climate change is a major issue in the world today, and a lot of people feel very differently about the cause of it. The common argument is whether climate change is a natural occurrence or if the recent increase in temperatures is because of humans. Climate change is a natural cycle in the Earth’s weather.
After viewing Climate of Doubt, it’s quite clear that the debate of climate change has quite the history. Dating back to 2007, there have been global warming advocates. The issue, however, arises from the opposing groups. On the side of global warming advocates, they are often depicted as “tree-hugging liberals.” On the other side, you have those depicted as “heartless science denying conservatives.” It’s within these opposing sides where you see the reason for a contentious debate. Each of the sides are constantly trying to poke holes in science and deny blatant truth. For example, the documentary highlights the “climategate.” It is explained that climategate was an email controversy where emails were taken out of context to combat climate
The time of refusing to acknowledge climate change has come to an end. Every day there are a growing number of institutions, governments and private companies which recognize the socioeconomic risks that climate change poses on the future. As scientific research confirms the need for immediate action with regards to climate change, scientists and politicians alike are conflicted at what is the next best step forward. One proposal is sulfate aerosol injection into the stratosphere, a type of geoengineering which reflects solar radiation back into space and reduces the temperature of the Earth . Supporters argue that this is the most cost efficient and rapid method to cool the Earth. Meanwhile, critics of this Solar Radiation
Climate change is a subject that can be open for misinterpretations. This means that people are able to think multiple things about on this one subject. A thermometer can say 100 degrees Fahrenheit does not mean that it will be hot to everyone. Temperature is just one aspect of climate. Climates are, "the composite or generally prevailing weather conditions of a region...averaged over the years"(Dictionary.com). Conditions will vary through specific seasons which is why they have to under surveillance for many years then the climate zones are labeled from there. Climates have climate classifications, "the arrangement of climates according to their most important characteristics in order to provide each type with a short, unambiguous name
Many people get climate change and weather confused. Weather is the changes we see and feel outside every single day. For example, it might rain one day and be sunny the next. Climate change is a change in the usual weather found in a place. This can include how much rain a place gets, the temperature of the place etc. There are many things
We can shorten climate change by using inexhaustible energy instead of hydrocarbon deposit. It may not be possible for a simple generation to fix all the damage caused to the earth, however with the help of our future generations we will get closer to a green and healthy Earth.
As defined by the Oxford dictionary, climate change is, “a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.” (Oxford Dictionaries) Moreover, evidence of climate change can be found all over the world, and in many different forms, but is especially prevalent in certain regions. For instance, in Southeast Asia, specifically the nation of the Philippines, signs of climate change can be observed frequently, if not regularly. One major ...
Climate Change is any substantial change in climate that lasts for an extended period of time. One contributor to current climate change is global warming, which is an increase in Earth’s average temperature. Plants and animal species throughout the world are being affected by rising temperatures. Many plants are flowering earlier now than they once did; animals, such as the yellowbellied marmot, are emerging from hibernation earlier; and many bird and butterfly species are migrating north and breeding earlier in the spring than they did a few decades ago, all because of slight changes in temperature cues. (Shuster)
According to the Canada’s Action on Climate Change, Climate change is a long-term shift in weather conditions identified by changes in temperature, precipitation, winds, and other indicators. Climate change can involve both changes in average conditions and changes in variability, including, for example, extreme events. Climate change is one of the biggest crisis in the earth. It will cause a huge damage to the eco-system and human. We are the victims of the climate change. However, we are the one who cause the climate change.
The earth is a complex system, which continues to evolve and change. Climate change and global warming are currently popular in the political agenda. But what does “climate” really mean? The difference between weather and climate can be conveyed in a single sentence: “Climate is what you expect; weather is what you get.” Based on research of the geologic record, we know that climate change has happened throughout Earth's history and at present, ever-increasing evidence points to the roles that humans play in altering Earth systems. The Earth and its atmosphere receive heat energy from the sun; the atmospheric heat budget of the Earth depends on the balance between incoming solar radiation and outgoing radiation from the planet; which has been constant over the last few thousand years. However present evidence seems to suggest that the recent increase in temperature has been brought about by pollution of the atmosphere, in particular the release of huge amounts of carbon dioxide, mostly through Anthropogenic Forcing (human activity) and other various internal and external factors. I...
Climate change is caused due to the release of few carbon compounds into the atmosphere, which drastically brought the weather changes all over the world. Climate change is not confined to a single region. It has become an important issue all over the world for the past few years.
