The individual in power should promote and maintain civic engagements about abuse. An individual in power can be a judge, social worker, counselor, state representative, Congress, peers, and parents. Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to make that difference (Ehrlich, 2000). In addition, civic engagement means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes (Ehrlich, 2000). Each approach to implementation civic responsibilities by an individual in power has advantages and disadvantages. For example, a judge would not uses the same sociology lens as state representative or parents. A judge would have to be in the outsider to the issues of abuse.
