He went on to talk about the difference between grants, loans, and scholarships. He explained how scholarships are the best option. Once he was done with that he went on talking about the schools access to scholarships. He started off by asking us if we knew what the scholarship newsletter was and how we could find it. After explaining what it was he discussed what scholarships
are offered and how many sign up. He went into some detail talking about how many scholarships are never accepted b/c no student signs up for them. He also talked about the process for scholarships that only one student our school works. Reputable environmentalist Janisse Ray in her narrative “Altar Call to True Believers” uses pathos, logos, and ethos efficiently to create a convincing kyros for her essay. To start off she uses ethos. She admits her own faults, capturing the reader’s attention as well as “playing” upon the readers trust and understanding. Next she uses pathos. Ms. Ray identifies with her audience and displays her own background to gain more of the reader’s empathy. Lastly, she capitalizes on logos. Janisse logically forges an ideological circumstance for what, how, and why the people of planet earth should be doing to help the environment. In this essay I will argue that Ray’s rhetoric succeeds due to the empathy she establishes with her audience by self depreciation.
Nobel Prize winner, professor, author and economist, Joseph E. Stiglitz, wrote “Of the 1%, by the 1%, for the 1%.” Joseph E. Stiglitz served during the Clinton administration as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and is former senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank. Throughout his piece Stiglitz argues how America’s economy is not likely to succeed in the future. Stiglitz creates a strong and credible argument throughout his piece by using the appeals of ethos, pathos and logos.
The rhetor of the article, For many restaurant workers, fair conditions not on menu, uses several rhetorical elements to construct her argument and build upon her ethos. She uses logos to expand her credibility and ethos, as well as to make her pathos statements more rational. She appeals to the reader’s sense of American patriotism and freedom to try to sway the opinions of the reader. The article’s main argument is that workers in the restaurant industry are being unfairly treated with their minimum wage.

One of the greatest conflicts in the history of the United State of America, the Revolutionary War, was started when the colonies of North America declared themselves independent from British rule. A group of men known as the Founding Fathers, which included George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John and Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and others, formed the Continental Congress to rule their new nation. They chose Thomas Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence, which they would send to King George III to make their independence official. Jefferson knew that he needed to use strong language to make a solid agrument against British rule in the colonies and to convince the colonists that independence was the only choice to maintain their freedom as human beings. The powerful use of parallelism, ethos, pathos, and logos helpd Thomas Jefferson to convey his idea that all men are created equal with unalienable rights and that it is the duty of the government to protect those rights.
2. Question: What specific things did you learn about that programs do to support families in realizing their hopes and dreams and in addressing the concerns family members have for their child?
Strength of Argument: Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Bell Hooks’s essay, "Keeping Close to Home", uses three important components of argument (ethos, pathos, and logos) to support her claim. Hooks develops her essay by establishing credibility with her audience, appealing to the reader’s logic, and stirring their emotions. She questions the role a university should play in the life of a nation, claiming that higher education should not tear a student away from his roots, but help him to build an education upon his background. Bell Hooks gains the trust and credibility of readers through knowledge of the topic at hand, establishing common ground with the audience, and demonstrating fairness.
The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is a historic tragedy about the brutal murder of the Roman senator, Julius Caesar. Within the play, Caesar has two close friends—Brutus and Antony. Antony is a loyal friend, supporting Caesar and encouraging him in his climb to kingship; Brutus is a king-fearing traitor who leads the plot to murder Caesar. After Caesar is murdered, both friends make speeches—Brutus to justify his actions and Antony to passive-aggressively disprove his claims. In the speeches, they use three rhetorical literary devices: ethos, the appeal to gain the crowd’s trust; pathos, stirring the crowd’s emotions to influence behavior; and logos, the use of logic to reason with the crowd. By comparing the use of ethos, pathos, and logos in each speech and by
I asked him first about what his religion was about, like a little summary about it. It all started with Martin Luther and his 95 Theses that he posted on a Church's door. What his Theses talked about were his problems with the Catholic Church. His biggest issues were with how the sacraments were used in the church and how the church is run. It was Martin Luther's Theses that started off the whole Protestant Reformation as well.
Pathos being the Greek word for “experience” is often called the emotional appeal because it persuades a person through their emotions and feelings. In my opinion, Pathos is the most important appeal because it causes the audience to identify as well as respond emotionally to the writer’s point of view, i.e., to feel what the writer feels. Apart from the emotional side, pathos has an imaginative side to an article or text as well. For example, President Obama’s speech on the assassination of Osama Bin Laden, Pathos is seen when he describes that day by saying ”The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory- hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up
Two monumental speeches were given at the funeral of Julius Caesar. Brutus and Antony both had their own way of explaining and persuading the audience to listen to them. While one speech used Logos, which is the appeal of logic, the other speech used mostly pathos, the appeal to the audience’s emotions. Both speeches used two important modes of persuasion, but which speech was the most influential?
The video presents the rhetorical appealing to Logos. The authors deliver the information of the gap of gender in Mathematical and Scientific education as the STEM education (scientific, technology, engineering, and math career; as known as the “STEM”). The gender gap in STEM education is a hot topic for enhancing gender equity in education.
Who has a better speech and what makes that particular speech better? Brutus and Mark Antony two citizens of rome that oppose each other's doings. Brutus stating why he killed his loving friend Julius Caesar, Antony stating why the people of rome should turn on Brutus and the conspirators. Both men used three very important things in their speech to persuade the people of rome. First who used logos or logical statements the best out of the two. Next which of the two men used ethos or appeal to ethics the best. Last one of the biggest witch of the two used pathos or appeal to emotion the most or the best.
