“Whatever you end up doing, love it.” - Cinema Paradiso
There's always people telling me “Why I would pick film as a career? You're going to struggle for most of your life and your probably never going to make it big.” The simple answer is “well I love movies”, but even though that's true and it's a big reason, it's not the only reason. The truth is I was never good at math and that's a problem when you want to be an engineer growing up. Being an engineer was just a title for me and I never understood what it was and when I took a course in school I didn't like it or do well. As my senior year came closer not knowing what to study became a problem. Eventually I found myself watching movies and tv shows every night before bed and one night watching a classic called Cinema Paradiso a character by the name of ******* said something that I will never forget “Whatever you end up doing, love it.”. So I asked

I've never gotten tired of the creative process that goes into creating a movie. Unlike some jobs where the finishing product is great but the process is boring and not fun to do. Making a movie if fun for me from beginning to end. I love the frustrations it brings because the reward is so great and thinking about ideas or writing a good script can take time to come up or even develop to be able to start shooting but every singe step is fun and worth the wait. I've created three short films and had a blast making them. I didn't love how some turned out to be but I can truly say i'm proud of what I accomplished. The biggest thrill about making movies is seeing people smile when they watch them. No director makes a movie for themselves, they make them for people to enjoy and that's what I want to do. I want to make people smile and laugh or scream and cry, for people to feel real emotion from fake characters. Its called the entertainment business, but the real business is touching people's
The film Jindabyne, is a story about death, marriage, and race in an Australian town in New South Wales called Jindabyne. In the film, four men go fishing, and one of them discovers the dead body of a young indigenous girl. Instead of reporting what they found to the police immediately, they decide to stay and continue fishing. They decide that there is nothing they could do for her, so they tie her legs to a tree and continue with their fishing, reporting the death only when they return home. After they are done with their weekend of fishing and report the incident, conflict starts, as the men are criticized for not respecting the dead. Through the story of the town’s reaction to the four fishermen’s response to the dead girl, the movie shows Australia to be fragmented and divided over white-indigenous relations.
Everyone at one point has to make a decision on what they want to be when they grow up. For me, that decision came rather unexpectedly and was a result of a new found interest due to self-discovery. It all began when I was around the age of 8 and I watched a documentary on aircraft. It documented all about planes, how they work and the science behind them. I was immediately captivated and gaining all that information as a young child really hit the spot in terms of a new found passion and interest that I could see myself later using. This passion stuck with me ever since as I have spent tons of spare time studying different types of aircraft and collecting model planes. It ultimately helped me with my answer to the question of what I wanted to be when I grew up as being an aeronautical engineer. It is not a career most would pursue, but it shows how self-discovery impacted me at a very young age and the impact is so log lasting that it has influenced most of the decision I make now in terms of courses I take at school and the extracurricular activities I am a part of. Without self-discovery, I was able to gain an understanding of where my interests lay, the abilities I have to acquire complex information and the feelings I had towards my new found interest and
Classical Hollywood Cinema is a chain of events that has a cause – effect relationship within a time and space. The environment looks realistic and believable to the viewers because the style is predictable, and the time is linear throughout the film. Each scene with the development of the plot and story is motivated by cause and effect. The filmmaking process involves four major steps that cut across the board. The process revolves around these levels that make it orderly to every individual involved in filming. The process has the following stages: Idea and Development, Pre-Production, Production and Post- Production. In Idea and Development it is normally
In the documentary “Fed Up,” sugar is responsible for Americas rising obesity rate, which is happening even with the great stress that is set on exercise and portion control for those who are overweight. Fed Up is a film directed by Stephanie Soechtig, with Executive Producers Katie Couric and Laurie David. The filmmaker’s intent is mainly to inform people of the dangers of too much sugar, but it also talks about the fat’s in our diets and the food corporation shadiness. The filmmaker wants to educate the country on the effects of a poor diet and to open eyes to the obesity catastrophe in the United States. The main debate used is that sugar is the direct matter of obesity. Overall, I don’t believe the filmmaker’s debate was successful.
The inventors for the first movie theater are John P. Harris and Harry Davis. John P. Harris was born in 1871 in Pittsburgh and Harry Davis was born 1861 in London. Harry Davis moved to Pittsburgh in 1870, he went at the age of 9. Harry Davis was one of the most successful theatrical managers in the country 1890-1920.
With this short but very interesting and informative class I have just scratched the surface of the what it takes to make a full fleged film. It takes much more than I had presumed to make a movie in Hollywood. The number of people that it takes to make a minute of a movie let alone the entire movie was astonishing to me. There are many things that it takes to start making a movie but without an idea of some sort there is no movie to be made.
I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.
Many of my friends pick their careers based on money and trade skills that they have. I am proficient in art and design, but didn’t feel like that was what I wanted to do for my career. Your career shapes a huge portion of your life. It is what you do every day, for a large portion of your life. It is what I have prepared for the past 12 or so years of my life. It is way more than just money or a skill. I wanted to do something unique, something interesting, something that would inspire me to be a better human, something that would make me feel, something that is challenging, something that helped others, and above all, something that was rewarding and made me feel fulfilled.

The theories of the window and frame had its origins in the schools of formalism and realism. Both schools main objective was to amplify the prestige of film. During that era of film was an upstart sideshow attraction, high class form of entertainment was the theater and the visual art forms of paintings and statues. Both schools saw cinema as a way of looking a through an aperture but keeping the audience at a distance from the subject on the screen. Whether looking through at frame or looking through a window the audience would be viewing the subject matter but they would only be able to absorb it. That’s where the similarities end the formalist lead by theorist Sergei Eisenstein saw film as frame and would create shock in an attempt to provoke or raise consciousness. Sergei Eisenstein would create what he wanted to the audience to see in his films. For example in the Battleship Potemkin Eisenstein wanted to address the situation with Russia and he created the situation in his film to incite a revolution by creating chaos. The realism school lead by André Bazin saw cinema as window. To Bazin a spectator would be apart of the film as more of a witness more than just a spectator. In the movie Rear Window Jefferies was witness to his neighbor wife murder while looking through window because while looking through a window what one sees is real.
Finding your calling in life can be one of the most challenging decisions for a person to make. Not only will it structure the format of your everyday journey, but the question is, is it your true passion? I have a strong belief that each individual was given the gift of life to discover their purpose and to build a strong foundation steamed from the fruit of their labor. I often hear conversations about how the quality of people has drastically changed over time, and I firmly agree. Yet, ever so often I come across someone that I immediately identify myself with and find it interesting how naturally deep our relationship intensifies. I have always been very intrigued by the process of film making. Sometimes I was more interested in viewing
The book I selected to do a chapter review on is A Film Experience written by Timothy Corrigan and Patricia White. The book is based off of filmography and the different things films focus on. The chapter that I have selected to do a summary on is the fourth chapter called “related images” and it is over different shots and editing part of film. The reason of why I chose the editing chapter is because it was the section that popped out to me most. The definition of editing is the process that links different images or shots to make it with a continuous flow without cutting.
In this essay/report I will explain to the best of my abilities, my possible career path. I have wanted to be many things. In grade 1, I wanted to be a superhero, and that hope stayed out for a while. Later on, when I was 10, my brain started getting new ideas, exploring the world around me, thinking of other things aside form cartoons and I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to become a superhero? I started thinking of other jobs like firefighter, police officer, engineer, construction worker etc., etc. But then I decided it was no good. Then one day when I was watching an interview on TV, a firefighter was being interviewed and one of the questions was: How long did it take you to decide what you wanted to be? And he said a long time. Then I wondered how long a long time would be, I wanted to jump into the TV and ask the guy how long a long time was. Hmm, I wondered, how long is a long time and then I answered my question. “It’s going to be a long time ‘till it’s a long time, I’ve got nothing to worry about.” That question just flew off my mind until at the start of grade eight when I encountered this question again, and I answered it. It took a while and some research but I answered it. I want to be a Neurosurgeon when I grow up.
Kidnapping not only happens in the United States, it happens worldwide. There are some children who are found and there are some who has been missing for years to come. The call was a great way to let young adults know the severity of being kidnapped and it lets dispatchers know how severe a person being kidnapped really is. The call was a movie made in the year of 2013 starring Halle Berry and Morris Chestnut. Halle Berry and Morris chestnut work together to make this film become a great life lesson and also create suspense. During the last 32 years, NCMEC’s national toll-free hotline, 1-800-THE-LOST® (1-800-843-5678), has received more than 4.3 million calls. NCMEC has circulated billions of photos of missing children, assisted
It has taken a very long time for me to decide on the path that I wanted to take for my career. I have almost always known that I wanted to be an engineer. I was always more interested in applying my knowledge to solve problems rather than just research and understand the world. However, I had little to no inkling as to which field of engineering I wanted to go in to. I had always been a dabbler, involving myself in a large variety of activities with the interest of learning about how stuff works. I started out learning how to use the tools in the shed outback, making pinewood derby cars and model rockets. I would help my dad with home improvement and repair projects around the house. As time went on, my ability learns and apply
