Identification I attended Sunday Mass on February 25th at 9:00am at the place of worship of St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral Parish located on 73 Spruce Street North in Timmins, Ontario. The type of religious tradition was Christianity. The denomination was Roman Catholic. Building The enormous gray brick Cathedral topped with dark green roofing sits on a vast piece of real estate in central downtown Timmins. It has been on the same corner since 1938. Next to the gothic resembling structure is an immense marble cross statue. Various tall arched stained-glass windows are scattered along the building. A bell tower sits in front of the building forming the doorway. At the very top of the tower is a small cross. The sizable wooden door is also …show more content…
The majority of people present were elder females. The age ranged from adolescents to elders. All of the people attending the service were Caucasian. There did not appear to be any gender separation as most attending seemed to be couples. The children were visible however, they were not that young. The congregation did not have to be asked to do anything, they would recite passages or repeat after the pastor when necessary. Besides getting up to stand once and awhile, some would read along with the pastor. Finally, the congregation take act in communion and line up in the center of the pews, waiting for sacramental bread representing the body of Christ. Leadership The pastor, Monsignor Pat Lafleur, was a white male approximately sixty to seventy years of age. His leadership was indicated by his all white robe and his position in the front of the room. Lafleur was facing the congregation and lead the service meaning he spoke the most. Maureen Graham-Szewczyk was pastoral associate and sat next to the stand where Lafleur was situated. He sported usual church attire and assisted the pastor with various tasks such as retrieving the wine and weavers for communion. Jacob Gregorcic was the church's deacon but was not present during the service.
The original church was built in 1804 and was for both white men and Indians alike. The first preacher was Joseph Brady who was pastor for 17 years. It wasn't a greatly populated area but people came from miles around for the services. As the settlement grew so did the congregation and they soon built a new church on High Street in 1841. Even with the main church there were still occasional services held in the old one until is was blown down by a storm in 1866 (Hein, 957).

The towers of the church have cone-shaped tops with one being larger than the other. There is a large circle shaped window in the center of the west facade. There are windows in the towers and windows at the base. There are doors and pedestals. There are details carved into the building which include the image of holy figures.

After the church was rebuilt the congregation came together and proceeded to have church. There was a catch though the church did not have a priest to lead them. There were men who lead the service in the church and even with no priest the religion lived on for about forty years. Finally in 1897 a priest by the name of Daniel Berbiech stumbled upon the church. He discovered that even without a priest the people were flourishing in the catholic faith.
„« He was a roman Catholic missionary of the congregation of the sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary.
When the church first started growing the believers were few and shared everything. And there was not much need for deacons. But as time went on a need for deacons was identified. First th...
Rev. Cutter enjoyed working with struggling congregations and moved on westward when the services of Rev. George Diven were secured in 1884. From there, a strong Sunday school was established, catechism classes began, and a church college was

Every religion embodies a plethora of recognized rituals that are significant to its teachings. Customs exclusive to each religion can include acts such as: attending a weekly mass, praying five times a day at specified hours, celebrating the transition from childhood to manhood, along with endless others. The similarity shared amongst all religious rituals is that the follower of faith must believe whole-heartedly in what he/she is doing or saying. Dhikr, or the remembrance of God, is a ritual based in Islam that does not receive the attention it deserves from mainstream Muslims, and is highly under appreciated for its value (Robson 238). Its myriad versions allow it to be very personal, whereas other rituals are more structured, which is
On Sunday March 12th and 19th, my husband and I attended Holy Trinity St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (HTSN) in Finneytown, Ohio. The church conducts Orthros (Matins) at 8:15 am and Divine Liturgy from 9:30-11:30 am. I chose to attend HTSN for two reasons; first, they host the annual Panegyri Festival and two, learning about the 1054 split intrigued me given the current state of the Methodist Church.
For my observation trip, I decided to visit St. Ignatius Church in Oregon, Ohio. I visited a mass at 11:30 on Sunday November 19. I decided to visit a catholic church because my family has no religious background whatsoever, and I decided that I could go with one of my good friends that way if I need to ask questions, she was there to answer them for me.
Jesus served as example for all of humanity. His life work was to solve the fundamental problem of humanities sin and to provide eternal life with the Father. Jesus Christ demonstrated the way humans should live. He modeled behavior to the poor, the sick, the imprisoned, women, tax collector, to His friends. He came to set the example of the way to live for Christians. Basically, Jesus life was an outline of how to live your own life. Jesus confirmed that you should love your neighbor as yourself. That you should love your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your strength. This was demonstrated on a daily bases. Jesus verified that although humans are prone to sin, one can make a choice to not sin. When tempted by Satan, Jesus refrained from sin and turned to God the Father for strength to turn away from the temptation. Jesus was the teacher of complete, true knowledge.
