Traveling is Amazing.
He who does travel, does not know the value of men. Traveling is one of the most important things someone can achieve. If someone never travels they’ll never know the full extent of human accomplishments because they won't be there to admire the food, buildings, nature, animals, climate, people, and just everyday life in other cultures.
One big reason people travel is their sense of adventure, to be honest, if the world was not as explored as it is today, people would travel a whole lot more often they do now. Leif Ericsson was a Norse Viking who was living in Greenland in a Norse settlement. When his father, Eric the Red was coming back from Europe he misjudged his direction and missed Greenland by a lot running into

People who travel and explore are usually perceived as mysterious in their motives. The same could be said for Christopher Columbus, except the mysterious part is a very different aspect of his life. The exact date of Columbus’s birth is not known. He was born sometime between August 25th and October 31st, 1451, in Genoa, then the capital of a self-governing area on the northwest coast of Italy. Sometimes traveling can cause unwanted things to happen to other people if you're traveling with large masses of people looking to change the places they're heading. The landing of Columbus on that tiny island would have devastating effects upon the lives of the Native Americans and what the Europeans would do in and with the New World would in turn greatly change life in the Old World. Sometimes things don't turn out the way we expected or even the the way they were supposed to or even guaranteed to. Columbus lived most of his last eighteen months unhappily in the city of Valladolid. He was well off and cared for by his family , but in an increasingly disturbed state of mind and ceaselessly agitating for the official recognition, money and prerogatives that had been promised him. What Christopher really wanted were these things. He didn’t even think of the amazing things he had done while he was traveling. He was blind to his accomplishments and only sought his reward. Never go through life expecting rewards for your actions no matter how important you think they
Some of the problems when studying history are the texts and documents that have been discovered are only from perspective. Furthermore, on occasion that one perspective is all there may be for historians to study. A good example of this textual imbalance can be found from the texts about the discovery of the New World; more specifically, the letters of Christopher Columbus and Pêro Vaz de Caminha during their voyages to the New World. Plenty of the text from this time is written from the perspective of the Europeans, as the Indigenous population did not have any written text. What this means is that it provided only one perspective, which can drastically hinder how history is interpreted. Columbus’s letter of his first voyage to the Caribbean

He wanted to find gold and seize power for spain and the king. “ He was anxious to please the king that he committed irreparable crimes against the indians” (Excerpt 6). Christopher Columbus didn’t know it was America he thought it was India, so he killed to get his way and find gold. Columbus didn’t want to disappoint the king so he searched for gold. “ Columbus never forgot that his voyage was not one of exploration, but of economics.
Despite being one of the most renowned explorers in history, Christopher Columbus’ legacy remains controversial. The debate on whether Columbus should be celebrated has captured news headlines for decades. While many view him simply as a gifted Italian navigator who laid the seeds for the colonization of the New World, history paints a much more complicated picture. His journal entries and eye-witness testimony reveal Columbus to be a man of intolerance and indifference towards those deemed inferior to himself. Christopher Columbus’ treatment of Indigenous’ people, in addition to his ethnocentric worldview, allows for the conclusion that he should not be idolized as a hero in the modern age.
Christopher Columbus was a famous navigator and explorer who was born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy. Columbus wanted to claim land for Spain so he could be rich and spread religion. He originally set out to find the East Indies for many reasons. One was that he hoped to establish trade routes and colonies in order to gain wealth. Another was that there were now bigger guns that could be strapped on ships so he felt that his voyage had more of a chance of being successful. The main reasons for his exploration was that he wanted to find a western route to Asia to find the riches that Marco Polo talked about in his book. So basically he was not courageous, he was just greedy. He intended on arriving in Japan on his first voyage, but instead, he arrived at the Bahamas archipelago. He ended up making numerous voyages and claiming the lands he visited for the Spanish Empire. Columbus continued voyages creating the first lasting European conta...
“In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue”, is the rhyme embedded in children’s heads in the first lesson of US history. However, beyond the discovery of the New World, Christopher Columbus receives no other mentions. Especially no one acknowledges that he was the reason Native Americans were mistreated and kept as slaves. Although Christopher Columbus’ actions are not all honorable he should still be celebrated during Columbus Day as a brave explorer who risked his and his crew’s lives to find a new way of travel and land. His efforts bridged a gap between the New and Old World and helped feed Europe, which immensely impacts our society. Because of his dedication and bravery to be an explorer Christopher Columbus Day should be celebrated.
It is thought by many that Christopher Columbus was a skilled sailor on a mission of greed. Many think that he in fact did it all for the money, honor and the status that comes with an explorer, but this is not the case entirely. Columbus was an adventurer and was enthused by the thrill of the quest of the unknown. “Columbus had a firm religious faith and a scientific curiosity, a zest for life, the felling for beauty and the striving for novelty that we associate with the advancement of learning”. He had heard of the legendary Atlantic voyages and sailors reports of land to the west of Madeira and the Azores. He believed that Japan was about 4,800 km to the west of Portugal. In 1484, Columbus wanted support for an exploratory voyage from King John II of Portugal, but he was refused. In 1485, Columbus took his son Diego and went to Spain to get some help.

Christopher Columbus was a great man by any standards. He sailed huge distances all in the pursuit of his “new world”. He was a fairly simple man born sometime in 1451 with his death following in May 20, 1506. He found many new places, for example the bahamas. But most importantly, he found North America, and led to the great countries that spread there. However, his real and most primary goal, was to find a trade route to Asia. As was the goal of most explorers of his time. He almost succeeded, but even though he went searching for that route for fame, money, glory, and for his country. He did not succeed in doing so. Though, one could say that such a route never would have been found without his help. So maybe, in a way, he did find the route
Before the most famous historic voyage to the Americas Christopher Columbus had no support to go on his expedition. Christopher Columbus tried to get support from the King of Portugal John II, but he was turned down. Spain finally agreed to sponsor his voyage in 1492 across the Atlantic Ocean. By agreeing to sponsor Christopher Columbus voyage they believed they would have gained leverage in what they were trying to do in Spain. The Reconquista made the Spaniards very powerful. By Christopher Columbus finding new land with people and gold it convinced King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to continue to support his voyages. Even though the king and queen believed that allowing him to go on the voyages benefited them it actually allowed Christopher
In the years leading up to and including 1491 European explorers had been researching and studying the world, however they lacked a real understanding of the true size and geography of our planet. When explorers finally began setting out on their expeditions in the late 1400’s, the world began to experience serious change. Before Columbus is credited with the discovery of America in 1492, the Americas were untouched by Europeans, but within a few hundred years permanent settlements would be founded on American soil despite the presence of the native people.
