The tinsel on the Christmas tree glistened in the pale moonlight entering from the pane glass windows in the living room and the lights twinkled like stars in the clear night sky. An ample amount of presents wait anxiously under the fresh pine, expecting the festivities soon to come. A fresh blanket of snow has fallen, making the field around the cozy ranch house gleam and glitter. Through the window of the small house, a dying fire crackled under a cherry oak tv mantle opposite the windows and a Hallmark Christmas movie plays with a low hum, filling the small living area with nonchalant chatter and subtitles following in sync with the jolly characters on the screen. Eliza had fallen asleep on the smooth leather couch, and a plush throw blanket draped casually over her body. Fresh baked sugar cookies on a festive plate and a hot chocolate, that has since gone cold, sit on the …show more content…
How long had that been whistling? Putting out the flame with one swift click, she poured herself some water for her tea. She placed the tea on the side to brew and washed the dishes from the cookies that were baked before. While she washed, she gazed out of the window and noticed something peculiar about the prints in the snow. There was only a pair of steps coming from the woods, but none that turned back. A chill ran through her as she set the sponge down in the sink and turned the corner to the living room. Everything was exactly how she left it. The throw blanket was haphazardly thrown on the couch. The tv was still playing its holiday movies, and the cookies and milk sat on the table. But still, something was gnawing at her. Her home no longer felt safe. Meanwhile, a shadowy, ax-wielding man lurked behind the Christmas tree in the corner, observing the woman from less than 10 feet away. Waiting patiently, like a cat hunting a mouse, he stalked his prey. The nice things about these woods are that you never knew who was in
In the story “A Christmas Story” By Annie Dillard she begins the story describing a fest in a banquet hall that look amazing. At the banquet there were two thousand Chandeliers that were hanging from the ceiling. The author describes how the floor was looking and how it has many different colors of woods and details. Also, there were different activities at the fest like games and dancing. At the banquet there was a section that was for people that were not feeling good or was hurt. Children play with one another and they are having fun and enjoying themselves at the barguest. The fest lasted all night long and guest sat at a long table that went down the middle of the hall. The table was decorated with many colors and theme sand tableware;
He just turned and left without a word. I touched Lennie’s grave. The rough touch of the wood deflecting to my fingers. I walked back to the ranch. Everyone was asleep. I wanted to run away tomorrow but I couldn’t let this chance pass up. It also prevented any chance of Candy following me. I tiptoed out of the room and went straight to the woods. I made sure to mix myself in with the shadows of the trees. I saw the river and It felt like I did it...until I felt something grab me by my neck. I quickly got flipped over and pushed to the ground.
In the fictional play, A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, by Israel Horovitz, Scrooge’s first impression is not very good. He refuses to donate to the poor, he dismisses family who want a relationship, and he is miserable and tries to make others the same way. When two men come to see Scrooge, they were asking for donations for the poor. Scrooge, being one of the wealthiest people in the community, is very dismissive, wrongfully so, and asks the two men to leave empty handed. When Scrooge asks if there are workhouses for the poor to go to, the men explain that most people would rather die than to go there. In response Scrooge states, “If they would rather die, than they had better do it and decrease the surplus in population.” (649) When
The globe grew exponentially in front of his eyes and Colin found himself encased in the scene. The snow white peaks were soft and fluffy like freshly whipped meringue coated with a dusting of sparkling glitter. In the valley before him Colin could see the small village with the little row of thatched cottages draped with tinsel and strings of lanterns. Right in the middle was the towering Christmas tree decorated sparsely but elegantly and topped with an oversized bright star. And there beside the tree, stood the girl, Leah, as she always stood; with her full red knee length skirt and her black ankle boots with her arms outstretched waiting to welcome him home.
Although I have grown up to be entirely inept at the art of cooking, as to make even the most wretched chef ridicule my sad baking attempts, my childhood would have indicated otherwise; I was always on the countertop next to my mother’s cooking bowl, adding and mixing ingredients that would doubtlessly create a delicious food. When I was younger, cooking came intrinsically with the holiday season, which made that time of year the prime occasion for me to unite with ounces and ounces of satin dark chocolate, various other messy and gooey ingredients, numerous cooking utensils, and the assistance of my mother to cook what would soon be an edible masterpiece. The most memorable of the holiday works of art were our Chocolate Crinkle Cookies, which my mother and I first made when I was about six and are now made annually.

In "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes a transformation as a result of his encounters with three ghosts and becomes a kind, happy, and generous man. His greedy, cruel, and grumpy demeanor is replaced seemingly overnight, but he doesn’t just wake up and decide to be nice. It takes three Spirits to change his outlook on life - The Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Future. The Ghost of Christmas Past makes Scrooge begin to regret his selfishness, and the Ghost of Christmas Present begins to teach him about others. This second Ghost helps to make him realize that money doesn't buy happiness. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, however, teaches the most profound lesson of all: unless he changes, no one will care if Scrooge dies. Because of the Ghosts, by Christmas morning Ebenezer Scrooge is a completely different person from the man who went to bed on Christmas Eve.

Recklessly, she launches into the woods, leaping over downed logs and ditches, trees blurring as she passes them. Around her, the trees begin to thin, morphing into unkempt fields and unseen rocks. She did not mean to come here. She did not want to come here. Yet, it is here that she stops, frozen, for a moment, as she had been in the clearing.
Frosty the Snowman waves hello alongside Santa 's reindeer that are ready to take off. Candy canes line the sidewalk and the ginger bread dolls dance in a merry circle. The trees all sparkle with thousands of red, yellow, purple, blue, and orange lights. Out back, Mary and Joseph stand over baby Jesus, Choo-Choo train’s chug in spot, stars twinkle with bright yellow bulbs, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause wave in the distance. Kerkhoven, MN, the location of the happiest house on the block. Every year my breath is always taken away as my eyes struggle to soak in the utter abundance of Christmas spirit. I 'm smiling and we 're not even inside yet.
Someone had flipped the calendar; it showed a winter scene and read December 1962. I immediately thought of Advent Season, my favorite time of the year. But where is the Advent wreath? There is none, and in America, it’s called Christmas Season, I was told. The entire neighborhood, including my in-laws, spent many hours putting up strings of colored electric lights on their houses and front yard trees. Some had lit up plastic statues of a jolly Santa Claus, reindeer, and snowman, placed near trees and bushes, or by the front door. After dark, the illuminated houses and yards gave a feeling of a supernal place. We bundled up and took Patrizia through this sea of lights and her big brown eyes glistened with wondrous delight. During our walks, I heard that Santa Claus came in a sleigh, loaded with gifts for all children, pulled by eight reindeer, and Rudolf, the misfit reindeer, with the glowing red nose leading the way.
I jumped up, the nerves leaving an unsettling feeling. A whiff of lemon verbena perfume flowed through from the treehouse door. The comfort of my treehouse swept from my feet and I felt that overbearing yet familiar feeling. Fear. My only defense against the cold, hard world was failing
Each year approximately two billion people will gather together on the 25th of December to exchange gifts and pleasantries as part of a holiday called Christmas. Many honest-hearted individuals believe that Christmas is in celebration of Jesus’ birth. What many people do not know is that people have been celebrating years before Jesus was born. There are many aspects of Christmas deeply rooted in paganism including the Christmas tree, the Yule log, Christmas lights, Mistletoe, as well as the date chosen for the celebration.

Ever since I could remember, I have spent Christmas at my grandmother’s house, a house which is full of comfort, warmth, and happiness. At Christmas, I have always been able to escape the cold and dark real world allowing myself to truly enjoy just several moments in time. These moments have left impressionable memories from my childhood making Christmas a holiday that is special to me and my family. It is a time for my family to get together, share stories, laugh, and even cry.
