I went to Calvary Church in Naperville and I chose this particular place because it interested me because we learned about mega churches in class and I wanted to find out how mega churches work. The place of worship was big it had a stage and multiple screens for people in the back of the rows for them to see and there wasn’t much artwork because it was mostly dark with blue lights to bring focus up to the stage and there was a cross on the stage and the people worship at this church by listening to the pastor or who ever was performing on the stage like a concert or speech. What happened on the day that I went was it was mother’s day so I went in with a friend and sat next to them in one of the rows of seats and it started with a woman performing
In my paper I will talk about my visit to The Community Church at Murphy's Landing (CCML). I have chosen this particular Church because it is a family church type and my neighbor goes there and she encouraged me to go with her. I went there with my neighbor on April 6, 2014.This church is an appropriate for this assignment because the people there are welcoming me with an open heart and they are willing to help and provide me with information. When I visit the Church’s site I read these words “We know visiting a new church can be intimidating. But, we want to help you to be as comfortable as possible when and if you join us”. The people gather in the church weekly to glorify God in joyful worship. The expressions of worship on CCML take many forms a prayer, a hymn of reverent awe, a guitar ringing with a chorus of praise, or a warm handshake and a welcoming smile. Their weekly services begin at 9:30 each Sunday at church. Also, they have weekly podcast if anyone wants to listen online. They have many types of services for parents, kids and students. People at CCML were so friendly; they gather around me and start welcoming me, one by one. People there introducing themselves to me, one after another and provide me with their contact information and help. Then we start talking about the church services and Christianity in particular. The mission of CCML was knowing, growing and loving. They seek to live out our mission by worshipping together as a local community of believers, growing in spiritual maturity through discipleship, education, and small groups, caring for one another within the context of the larger church body and small groups, and Communicating the love of Christ to our world, both through local outreach and global mis...

I am a nondenominational Christian and I decided to attend a catholic mass. I attended mass at the Conversion of St Paul Parish on April 6, 2014. The preside was Father Senan Glass and the starting time was 10am. The Conversion of St Paul Parish’s location is 4120 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44103. The church was very big and the stain glass windows were beautiful. At first, I felt uncomfortable because I did not know where to sit or what to do. I really did not have an idea of what to expect. Everything seemed very formal and the service was easy to follow because of the bulletin I was given, which had the order of service on it. The service was concise and it only lasted about an hour.
Over the years, writers such as Bill McKibben have raised up their voices to give their personal opinion on polemic topics that involve Christianity. McKibben is a writer, educator, environmentalist, and currently a scholar at Middlebury College in Vermont. He served as an editor of important articles for the Harvard Crimson, and, in 2005, he wrote “The Christian Paradox: How a Faithful Nation Gets Jesus Wrong” (264). All of his background information gives the impression that McKibben is an educated and environmentally conscious person who has envisioned a better future for America. As a member of the Christian community, McKibben has received direct insight into the problems of the Church. In his article, McKibben argues his standpoint that,
From the beginning of the establishment of the Christian church there have always been controversies about how the organization has been run. The Da Vinci code and The Secret Supper deal with an alternative interpretation of early Christianity and the gospels, far different from that of the orthodox Catholic Church, both novels also deal with mysteries behind some of Leonardo Da Vinci’s most famous paintings.
Christian Science is an idealistic and most radical form of transcendental religiosity. The study of Christian Science teaches a feeling of understanding of God's goodness and the differences between good and evil, life and death. The purpose of this paper is to address how the study of Christian Science helps us better understand the impact of globalization in America, as well as the impact of American on globalization. This paper is important because globalization features a dominant worldview. All throughout the world people believe, study and teach different types of religious movements that impact others. People need to better understand how certain religions modify, conflict with, and impact the world. First, it will discuss the life and work of the founder, Mary Baker Eddy. Secondly, it will examine the primary rituals and religious services of the Christian Science movement. Then, it will outline the precursors and history of the religion. In the conclusion, a response will be offered to the question of how Christian Science helps us better understand the impact of globalization on America and of America on globalization.
Every religion embodies a plethora of recognized rituals that are significant to its teachings. Customs exclusive to each religion can include acts such as: attending a weekly mass, praying five times a day at specified hours, celebrating the transition from childhood to manhood, along with endless others. The similarity shared amongst all religious rituals is that the follower of faith must believe whole-heartedly in what he/she is doing or saying. Dhikr, or the remembrance of God, is a ritual based in Islam that does not receive the attention it deserves from mainstream Muslims, and is highly under appreciated for its value (Robson 238). Its myriad versions allow it to be very personal, whereas other rituals are more structured, which is
y Name is Irma Rivera J. I’m currently in my second year at HCC in pursuit of a Business Degree majoring in Accounting. I’m taking this course to complete my Humanities requirement, and because I’ve always been enthusiastic and intrigued with religion as a whole. I was raised up Catholic but as I grew older I’m more open to many religions and don’t feel I belong to any one particular religion but a blend of many. I would classify myself a Christian Omnist. (I just learned
The church external appearance was quite different than other churches that I have seen. It was basically a big white stucco block with a gold dome on top and four decorated spikes on each corner of the building that surrounded the dome. The people of course were all Greek and were very well dressed. Most of the men and boys all wore suits, and If not they had some kind of vest on. I don’t know if this was some kind of rule or tradition, but it mostly seemed as a respect to God. The women all wore the basic dresses, and all the skirts fell down below the knee. Everybody was proper and ordered. As I walked in the church I entered a lobby of some kind. What I saw hear was something like social hour. Everybody was in there. They were all speaking Greek, and I felt as if I was in a family reunion party. The children were all together; the adults talked together and the young adults all were together. The way they all socialize is when someone comes up to say hello, they give each other a kiss on the cheek and a hug. These people are all very close to each other. It seems as if the church is the center of their lives. I admire that trait as well. To enter the auditorium you must enter this little room, which has a piece of garment from St. Constantine and St. Helen. Also there were candles lit. As they walked through this little room they lit a candle and knelt down for a moment to pray, and then touched each garment and made a cross over their chest.
Faith is a human response to God’s Revelation. It is a surrender of our whole self to God’s will and a complete trust in him. Faith is a supernatural gift from God that we must work at in order to grow wiser and to understand God better. Faith can change daily based on the situation and must be worked at every single day. Faith is a supernatural grace that opens our lives to possibilities beyond our day to day experience. Faith is guided and inspired by the Holy Spirit. Faith is expressed in different practices such as prayer, service, and justice. My faith is moderate at this moment. It is not as strong as it probably should be but it is not low enough to where it would need severe attention. It is that way right now probably because I am constantly surrounded with ant-Christian or anti-God views and it can be difficult to ignore or overcome these views at all times. My Faith is the strongest when I am in the company of other believers and am supported in my Faith. This was especially true when I volunteered for a Luke 18 retreat and was chosen to be a disciple. The responsibilities that came with this job included leading a small group and giving a talk. The weekend really opened my eyes and I grew in faith a lot over the course of the retreat. A time in my life where my faith has been weak was during my seventh grade year of school. I had gone to a Catholic school from kindergarten to sixth grade, but during seventh grade year my family moved and I started going to a public school. This situation really tested my Faith because unlike at my old school, not everyone was Catholic or even Christian. Religion was completely shut out of everything and it was difficult to cope with. This made it hard for me to continue and better my ...
I attended the 11:00 am to 12:00 am service at River Valley Christian Fellowship on Sunday, December 4th. When I had arrived I was surprised by how big the church was. Then I parked in the back to get a view of all of the cars and people. The cars that were parked there ranged from nice jeeps to cars that looked like they had just gotten into an accident, but generally the cars were good quality cars. The people that were there were mainly older caucasian people and young families. Also it seemed like there was a significant amount of women compared to men which made sense since football was about to start and the majority of men probably went to the earlier service. All of the people seemed happy to be there even though it had started to snow on there way in. Honestly getting out of my car was very nerve wrenching due to the fact I had never been in a church before. Then I decided to make my way inside the North Worship venue where I was greeted with smiles and good mornings. Then as I was about to head in I was given a pamphlet with the schedule and donation amounts for the week. Inside of the pamphlet it also had card
I was handed a flier with the scheduled times for the worship, preaching, offering, and closing. They started off their service with worship. They have members from the church playing instruments, singing, dancing, and waving flags. For this being my first time a church I was pretty shock on how good someone could feel because of all the great vibes christian give off. The singing and instrument playing was outstanding, it almost felt as if I was at a live concert. Every single singer up on stage put all their soul into singing because they aren 't singing for anyone, they 're singing for their savior stated the pastor after the worship ended. The dancing occurred during some of the songs. The dancing was spectacular they had flags and tambourines in their hands as they danced. The dancing incorporated a great amount of soul and effort. They had one lead adult dance and two younger girls beside her. You can tell by just the way these two girls dance that they are filled with such a graceful soul, I later asked them if they grew up in church and their answer was
The people there were all extremely nice and would try to help me understand. They understood and accepted the fact that I wasn’t religious, but was showing interest in their faith. There were not as much people there as I had expected, but that might have been because it was a smaller church. It also wasn’t as racially diverse as I had expected. I thought that because it is the world’s biggest religion, that it
As a young child, I spent Sundays in the pews of various churches. My extended family had a wide variety of different denominations of Christianity. Some churches had loud music with singing and dancing, others lots of sitting and standing. But the
The purpose of this paper is to discuss a service that I got to attend that was different from my own religious tradition. I decided to go with my chosen topic because to be honest I had never experienced or thought to experience a different type of church service other than the one I grew up in. I grew up in a Christian home and attended a non-denominational Christian church on a regular basis. I just never felt the need to experience something that was different. So I decided to attend a mass at a Catholic church. I had been to weddings in a Catholic church and even funerals with a Catholic involvement but not an actual mass.
