Christianity is religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices. Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the savior of humanity whose coming as Christ or the Messiah was prophesied in the Old Testament. I decided to take my curiosity to Christian Pentecostal church located back in my city. My curiosity led towards a pentecostal church because my best friend belongs to a pentecostal. You hear all these interesting things about christians about how they feel the holy spirit, they speak in tongues, and how miracles come true. Therefore I decided to attend a church and stay for its service. I visited a Christian Pentecostal place of worship located in North Bergen, New Jersey that goes by …show more content…
I was handed a flier with the scheduled times for the worship, preaching, offering, and closing. They started off their service with worship. They have members from the church playing instruments, singing, dancing, and waving flags. For this being my first time a church I was pretty shock on how good someone could feel because of all the great vibes christian give off. The singing and instrument playing was outstanding, it almost felt as if I was at a live concert. Every single singer up on stage put all their soul into singing because they aren 't singing for anyone, they 're singing for their savior stated the pastor after the worship ended. The dancing occurred during some of the songs. The dancing was spectacular they had flags and tambourines in their hands as they danced. The dancing incorporated a great amount of soul and effort. They had one lead adult dance and two younger girls beside her. You can tell by just the way these two girls dance that they are filled with such a graceful soul, I later asked them if they grew up in church and their answer was
...in Islam singing never been a part of a ritual practice. That church was different than any other worshiping places I have visited before. I was very happy after this experience, because they still send me emails, mails, and thank you cards every Sunday. Before I leave they gave me a copy of New Testament Book and The Story of Jesus to help me in my research. I did not feel that I’m a stranger or a guest; I felt that I am one of the group members and my present is important for them. Obviously , through that experience their goals was knowing God through believing in Christ, grow in faith and spiritual maturity by providing opportunities for spiritual growth through Life Groups, and love and serve others unselfishly as Christ did, by equipping and preparing for service and offering various opportunities to serve within the church and in our community and the world.
The Temple of Freedom Under God, Church of God, is one of the oldest religious organizations located in the District of Colombia, whose congregation is currently being led under the supervision of Elder Walter D. Roman, Sr. Like many of the Pentecostal churches in this day and age, the Temple of Freedom Under God’s practices and beliefs coincide with the traditional practices of the earlier Pentecostal African American churches, holding tightly onto the doctrines that were instilled in The Gospel Spreading Church during the 1900s.
In most Baptist Churches, the pastor serves until he passes away, voluntarily resigns or terminated by church for some ethical or moral indiscretions. Therefore, many Baptist churches have enjoyed their pastors for longer intervals than some other denominations. In my ministry context at Oak Grove Baptist Church (OGBC) the former pastor served for forty-six years and died unexpectedly. Unfortunately, OGBC did not have any procedures in place for pastoral transition and was unprepared for the change. Pastoral transition can be difficult for any church that does not have procedures in place. Once the church has selected a candidate the work of welcoming the new pastor and his family begins. In addition, the work of strengthening the relationships
I truly believe this is the place in my life I am being called, equipped, and gifted. I also believe it is where I most naturally fit when it comes to the requirements of the job description. My heart feels drawn towards creating unity in a team of creatives who are passionate about worshipping, creating, and leading people to the foot of the cross in worship. Worship music gives people the opportunity to express their heart to God in words that they may not have even known they needed to sing, but also unites the voice of the entire congregation and orients us together towards God. I don’t think there is a formula of how to lead people into worship, but I am so deeply intrigued by the different ways to lead congregations, and I believe worship is a place that is constantly changing and growing in new expressions and voice to give to the church. One part of this job description that I really appreciated was the correlation it expressed in planning worship sets in correlation with the senior pastor. I have not been in a worship position where I actually got to sit and pray through the worship sets with the senior pastor. In my experience the senior pastor has either told us what he wants and we do it, or he just gives us all the responsibility and does not really care how we lead the time. However, I truly believe communication with the senior pastor about worship can be one of the most edifying planning aspects for a meaningful worship service that leads people into worship, the spoken sermon, and response
Most people have many preconceptions about what influenced the popular genre of Rock and Roll. Many think that Rock and Roll was heavily influenced by either Jazz or Blues music, but there are a few scholars who disagree with this thought. Writer Craig Mosher argues the point that pentecostalism was the biggest influence on Rock and Roll. Not only does Mosher think that pentecostalism was the heaviest influence on Rock and Roll, but Randall Stephens also attests that pentecostalism had a large influence on Rock and Roll. However, Stephens takes a much different approach than Mosher by using specific examples, telling the historical background of pentecostalism, and finally gives the church background of famous rockers. Another view on what influenced Rock and Roll is voiced by Michael Allen. Allen states that Blues, R&B, Country and a flare of Gospel music all eclectically influenced Rock and Roll. Allen gives specific examples and talks about the historical context and importance of Rock and Roll. Out of all three authors Mosher most effectively supports his central argument of how pentecostalism was a huge influence on rock and roll.
All of the religions in the world are great. However, there is one that always seems to catch everyone’s interest and that is Christianity. Christianity is one of the largest growing religions and traditions in the world. But why is it one of the largest growing religions in the world? What is Christianity? What are their teachings? Christianity is the religious tradition based on the life and teaching of Jesus of Nazareth also known as Jesus Christ. Christians believe that Jesus is the Messiah. Everything that the Christians know about him comes from the four Gospels written by, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, which can be found in the New Testament. So, what is a Messiah? The Jews believed that the Messiah would come and present to them a new world free from Roman power and bring about a greater national prosperity. They were expecting not a humble servant of God but a literal king or military leader. Therefore, when investigators want to learn more about Jesus the Messiah and his teachings they can refer to the Four Gospels. Many Christians focus on four of Jesus teachings. They are: The “Kingdom of God” has arrived and is present among us, Love ...
Christianity is one of the largest religions in this world today. Even though it was developed from Judaism, it has taken its own form in which many people have found a connection with. The Christian faith has changed over the years but essentially has the same core beliefs and holidays that it began with. As mentioned previously, there is a large amount of types of Christianity that have formed over the years, but as society changes there will be more forms of Christianity that will be developed. Pentecostalism is a perfect example of a distinct form of Christianity that has continued to grow and develop over the years. Regardless of the distinct forms, Christianity began and spread due to many important figures and it will continue to develop as this particular religion is widely practiced throughout the whole world.
When mentioned to the general public, the word “Pentecostalism” generates three diverse responses: confusion, mockery, and tolerance; some people never heard of the word, some people view it as being infamous, and the rest accept it. According to the Oxford dictionary, Pentecostalism “relates to any number of Christian sects emphasizing baptism in the Holy Spirit.” Misconceptions originated from the misunderstanding of the history of Pentecostalism, along with the notion that Pentecostalism is one sect when, in fact, there are many divisions. The largest of these is the teachings of Charismatic’s, which make up the most prevalent part of the denomination and have been the driving force for the assumptions and reputation that Pentecostalism has garnered. To truly understand Pentecostalism, one needs to learn the religions history, the standard beliefs of the various sects, and the contemporary changes that some followers have made in the recent years that have fueled the current fallacy about the belief system.
... In order to understand the Bible we must read it as the Psalmist says “O how I love Thy law! It is my meditation all the day.” (Psa. 119:97). However there some suggestions to cope with the study of the Bible in effective manner. The Bible was written a long time ago before us. It may seem a little bit strange, but my favorite place in town in none other than this beautiful Evangelic Church. However, it wasn’t always so.
The shepherd and sheep relationship is the best illustration for the relationship between pastor and parishioners. When Jesus asked Simon Peter does he love him three times and said to him “Feed my sheep”, the shepherd and flock relationship has been set. Since Jesus is our good shepherd (Jn. 10:11a), he laid out a good example for us to follow - to lay down his life for the sheep. (Jn. 10:11b) Thus, the wellness of both in and out of the parishioners should always be the concern in the pastors’ hearts. Soul care for the people is essential. Christian friendship is the foundation of Christian soul care. Pastoral ministry including preaching, teaching, and worship forms the broad context of pastoral counseling. Pastoral care is within pastoral ministry but broader than pastoral counseling. God’s love is the source and motivation. Within the pastoral care, there are spiritual direction and pastoral
Throughout the years, religions have come together to bring about a new age of interfaith and interconnectedness. There are countless of examples where people have adopted two or more religions as there own, seeing and respecting the relationships and similarities between the two. In hand with this, people are now beginning to understand other religions and respect their practices. There is sort of a hybrid coming about of religions, where communities will pray with each other in a sort of collaboration of respects. However, this change in religion did not come about easily, it took much strife to bring about an interconnectedness that everyone is now a part of. Now that this interconnected and respect occurs in some areas, this can open up
A pastor has a great responsibility to minister the Word of God and to be a shepherd to his people. The pastor must be committed to biblical truths when he engages the work of the ministry. Some of these truths include: The Bible is the infallible Word of God, his preaching must be from the Word of God, and he must do proper exegesis to get to the authorial intent and proclaim that to his congregation.
