Some of the quickest choices she made were the ones that had the biggest impact. Her choice to be Dauntless was a choice that separated her from the comfort of her family and the feeling of safety. The decision to kill Will was a decision to save herself at the cost of losing relationships. Choices have effects, both positive and negative. Whether or not there is time to analyze that decision, the outcome is something you must live with. One must focus on the positive side of the outcome. People will forget the bad if you yourself accept your decision. To sum it all up, Decision making can be one of the hardest things one has to do in his or her because of all the possible outcomes. You need to make your own decision based on what you want and what is better for
Beatrice is an extremely crucial character in ‘Much Ado About Nothing’. She is one of the reasons that many plans and schemes fall into place to provide us with the outcome that the play finally reaches. Shakespeare depicts Beatrice as a very strong character who knows what she wants and how she wants to achieve it. Her characteristics of sharp wit and her ability to be acutely opinionated allow her to be a notable contrast from the other women in the play, whether this be in a positive or a negative way.

Between the pages, she begins to explore her true identity within a society that defines its citizens by social and personality. It also contains a romantic subplot between herself and
First of all, in order to have an interesting story you will have to have a tone of voice that contributes equally to the meaning of the story. According to Divergent, “I want to be brave, and selfless, and smart, and kind, and honest.” This quotes supports the idea that Tris can in fact fit into all factions and therefore is divergent. Tris, faces with this conflict of being divergent since it is looked down upon. But, even though she faces this serious situation, she has a strong and powerful mindset throughout the journey.
The main character in the book Divergent is a girl named Beatrice. Beatrice is developed throughout the book by having to do things that push her out of her comfort zone. Beatrice was born in the faction of Abnegation, where everything is simple and alike. Abnegation values selflessness, but Beatrice doesn’t feel like she is selfless. She decides to change to the faction of Dauntless, who values courage. Beatrice has to do things like jump off trains, and fight people to show she is courageous. She decides to start going byTris, because Beatrice won’t fit in with the dauntless. When Beatrice makes the decision to be a dauntless she says “My fathers eyes burn into mine with a look of accusation’. This is because it was selfish of her to choose to be a Dauntless. Beatrice doesn’t like to be told what to do, and will stand up for what she thinks is right. Beatrice tries to be kind to others, but sometimes she just can’t control herself.
Although Tris is raised in her parents’ faction, at the age of only sixteen she like every other
In Chapters six and seven of Shared Beginnings, Divergent Lives by John Laub and Robert Sampson, the lives of numerous men are shared and analyzed. The authors use life history interviews as well as crime history to help explain their theory. They interviewed these men various times throughout their lives, from a very young age up until age seventy. In Chapter six, Laub and Sampson mention the lives of a few men who have turned to desistance, or stopping, in committing crime. There were two subgroups, “nonviolent desisters” and “violent desisters”. These men had tough upbringings, living in deteriorated homes in Boston. Their parents were not supportive and showed little interest in parenting. Throughout the chapter, the men mentioned various turning points that occurred in their lives in which turned them to becoming desistant to crime. The Glueck’s analyzed and interviewed three men. Leon, Henry, and Bruno were the men. Leon’s turning point for his desistance was his marriage. Henry’s turning point stemmed from his decision to enlist in the Marine Corps when he was eighteen. And for Bruno, he said that his turning point was attending The Lyman School for Boys. While the men stressed one specific turning point for them, all three mentioned how all three factors (marriage, the military, as
The book begins in a society that has resorted to factions to keep peace, and each faction is known for a single trait that the members of that faction practice to achieve mastery in. There were five factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. Ever since the factions were created, or as far as anyone can remember, the have maintained a society without war even though some factions don’t exactly enjoy the other’s company sometimes. According to the way Tris acted, the factions seemed stable and normal to her, and she didn’t have a thought in her mind that they could ever mutate into a warzone. By the descriptions in the book, Tris ...

Something that seems to be working well in Tris’ society is the factions mostly keeping to their own and all contributing to help the society become better. Erudite controls the social media and newspapers, Abnegation controls the government, Amity grows the food for the factions and controls farming, and Dauntless is in control of protecting everyone in the city and guarding the gates. All together working as a whole creates the illusion of a perfect society. Until human nature kicks in and the bad contaminates the society. A revolt is in the control of a single faction. Without all the pieces working, ...

In Divergent by Veronica Roth many characters struggle to know who they really are and when they learn the answer it is often at a personal price. Beatrice Prior who later changes her name to Tris is the protagonist of the story and struggles the most to find out who she really is. She is a strong, caring and brave young woman who is forced to choose to either continue living with her family in a faction guided by selflessness or move to a new faction guided by bravery. She is almost unable to make her choice due to the fact that she got multiple results from her aptitude test, commonly referred to as divergent. Throughout the book she faces many challenges and adversities but each one helps her learn a little more about herself. By the end of the book Tris learns who she is and what she believes in but each time she learned more about herself she paid a great price.
The most remarkable thing about literature is its effect on society and the individual. Every once in a while a book is published that truly relates to those who read it. Divergent just so happens to be one of those books. Divergent is an extreme take on the differences of what virtues humans value to form the perfect society. The book’s contents are almost philosophical, acting as sustenance for the heart and soul, meanwhile highlighting the many problems we face in modern society through quotes in a subliminal fashion that coincide wonderfully with the story. One such quote can be found on pg.441 and it reads ‘’ Human beings as a whole cannot be good for long before the bad creeps back in and poisons us again.’’ It almost breaks the 3rd wall. Human beings were born with both flaws and goodness. We are a double edged sword with extreme potential on both points. Deep down there is something dark in everybody. There are those who can control it and those who are weak and succumb to it.
It is this selfishness that makes it hard for the reader to be empathetic towards her later in the play, as it is evident in this scene that her hardships were brought on by herself. If she hadn’t insisted on the murder, she would not be driven insane by guilt, which would eventually lead to her death.... ... middle of paper ... ... As we saw, it was plaguing her dreams, and taking a heavy toll on her mental health.
