Today I watched the movie Chocolat. As a baker myself I was drawn to this movie due to the fact that the main character Vianne was a chocolatier. I really enjoyed this movie and would suggest anyone who has not seen it to watch it. The movie was mainly about Vianne moving from city to city with her daughter Anouk. They moved to a small village where she opened a chocolate shop. The townspeople we weary of her at first but most of them quickly warmed up to her. The town 's count did not warm up to her until the very end of the movie but he was trying to get her out of the village for most of the movie. He gossiped heavily with the townspeople trying to make her look bad and tried to turn the townspeople against her using the minister and the …show more content…

Vianne did not continue her education in anyway but Josephine did sort of become a supervisor and although it is not technical training I believe it was a valuable lesson for her to train some employees of her own, and know what it was like to manage people. I believe she also learned the coaching aspect of training employees from Vianne because it seemed like they did have the same training approach.
I believe that Vianne was a good supervisor. She provided a lot of positive reinforcement

They only showed a few scenes of her teaching Josephine but it seemed like she was patient with her and was willing to coach her through learning the chocolate business. I would have liked to see more of the training process and maybe see where Vianne ordered her products. The village seemed like it was out by itself and it was based in the 1950 's, I don 't believe it was as easy to export or get food deliveries as easily as we can now.
The only mention of cost in the movie was once when a customer asked how much a particular product was Vianne told her it was $4.50. Although we didn 't really know what was in it or how much it cost to make it, or even where her products came from. She did have some expensive ingredients and it would have been nice for a different point of view to explain the origin a little more. I also believe that the pricing is probably not accurate, it seems like her products should cost more than that taking into account the ingredients that she did use.
All and all I very much enjoyed this movie. I have watched a lot of “foodie” movies over the years but have not really thought of them in the way of looking how the kitchens and shops were

During my interview with Regina Martinez, BS RN and currently an Assistant Director of a home health agency, I discovered her leadership style matched the above quote. Martinez had extensive experience in management prior to joining the medical field. As a single working mother, she worked her way up from waitress to manger of a popular seafood restaurant. However, her dream had always been to become a nurse and she began her medical career as a certified nurse’s aide (CNA), while working through college. She graduated from nursing school with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and has been a Registered Nurse (RN) for more than two decades. She quickly earned the respect of doctors and fellow nurses, becoming a Charge Nurse on the floors she worked. She has worked as Medical Surgery nurse, emergency room, and as Director of Nursing for home health and long-term care facilities where she was responsible for over 150 employees.
For me, it was a profound experience to be coached by her, as I was learning not only the art of skating, but also many things that one can learn from a wise person. I treasure her advice very much.
In the end, society has been negatively affected by the food industry in some of the most depressing ways possible. Whether it is taking advantage of workers, or pushing for a certain product, or even selling contaminated food with no remorse. Hopefully, the food industries can decide to run their businesses with less to hide, because it was unfortunate that not a single company had the courage to simply get interviewed at least once through out the movie.
The difference between high performing companies and all other organizations is the degree to which training is integrated into company culture and strategy. Despite less time was given for formal training, the employees were benefiting more. This is due to the environment of continuous learning in which nontraditional training opportunities were offered and encouraged. Another important factor is linking strategy and training. Training is considered an investment for the organization because it is potentially a company’s most critical asset.

For the workers who were not one of her favorites, they were expected to work harder to not get criticized. Even if they did a great job, they were not rewarded any recognition for a job well done. However, for those who were the favorites, they could get away with doing substantially less. These employees were allowed to do a poor job. This favoritism did not earn my supervisor any respect from me. I basically saw her as a teenager in high school wanting to be the leader of the cool clique.
Training and development are important factors to the success of any organization. Each employee is a valuable asset that can either add to the success a company or contribute to its failure. Training supports and makes possible the development of new skills and knowledge. Offering training for employees at various levels within an organization assist employees develop the necessary skills and proficiency to be successful in their careers as well as prepare for new responsibilities.
