Ethical responsibility should not be just for men and women (blue and white - collar citizens). It should be applied to big corporations as well and be held to a higher standard. Chipotle is a well – known restaurant in the United States and some international countries. Some people enjoy eating at fast food restaurants as a way to get away from the traditional stay at home meal. Chipotle is an upcoming company in an extremely competitive market that needs to remain ethical when facing backlash.
Although, Chipotle has tasty food and been attempting to rebrand its image after the crisis there are still critics that linger. Chipotle may have had many ethical issues dealing with the outbreak and violated so many FDA laws that the company

still can ensure social responsibility. Some consider being ethical as simple as knowing right from wrong. However, ethics are more complex when it affects millions of peoples’ lives. It is a moral principle that should govern a business behavior and the business practices that follow the law. Since 2015, Chipotle has created great concerned from most of society. We all have a social responsibility to live ethically.
Although, no one is perfect but the negative outcome can affect a company’s growth especially if the company such as Chipotle has not learned their lesson. The company is repeating the same mistakes that should not be repeated. Even with the company image, being damaged with the E. coli image will forever be the perception. Chipotle current ethical standard in society is not purchasing food that complies with the FDA. This is a major issue. Every restaurant must comply with the FDA for the safely of the consumers. If this guideless are not met, a restaurant should be shut down for the violations. The result of this issue is because Chipotle, develop their own food that have questioned the company intentions. Another current ethical standard is that Chipotle did not properly train their employees to prepare the meals. This could be the result of Chipotle not following the FDA guidelines causing the numerous of outbreaks in the two years. In order for Chipotle to main sustainability and take ownership of social responsibility, they must work endlessly to regain their consumers …show more content…
trust. Personally, Chipotle did not have the intention on being unethical and bring harm to their consumers.
However, by not following the FDA guidelines did not help either in their business practices. Secondly, poor training was the best examples on why any company should not cut corners when theirs a high risk return. Chipotle did not use the necessary resources and money to make the adjustments after 2015 because it happened multiple times. What Chipotle can do to ensure sustainability and being responsible is to make a plan to implement a strategic strategy to make a difference in the public eye.
Food safety
This common issue that is universal. This is because everyone across the world consumes food to survive. The fact that this is a top need to survive has motivated everyone to take an active role to make anyone who sells or produce food to be responsible. The quality of food production should be prioritizes by big food corporations to not bring illness upon their consumers. The United States is probably one of the safest places to eat in the world and for a outbreak like Chipotle’s to happen is shocking.
Chipotle can ensure food safety by having tougher checklist before presenting their food to the public. This is would address the social responsibility that the company can take moving forward. By being aware that they are not perfect, are willing to achieve better is great in the public eye. Still Chipotle will need to gain their customers trust back after
changing their ethical standards. Give the employees the proper training In order for any company to successfully they need the proper tools to make the process easy and simple. Chipotle is just like any restaurant that give have a goal to maximize profit. However, Chipotle did not use its resources to fulfill its sole purpose. In the restaurant industry, basic knowledge is very important to have in regarding cooking, cleaning, and direct communication with customers. Over the years, we have seen many of cases that are similar to Chipotles that revolves around a training issue. This is a result of being cheap or poor budgeting. Since Chipotle did not want to use the extra money to train then it lost so much money by losing stakeholders. The company lost investments that could have placed in the mainstream conversation with its competitors. Once Chipotle have figured out a great training method then they can have a better company foundation. Purchasing (Budgeting) Out of the three strategies to improve will have to be budgeting. Chipotle needs to focus on planning to understand their strengths and weaknesses. Budgeting is critical when understanding the process and it can affect the how much Chipotle can spend on training. Having poor budgeting can cause a domino effect to aspect of the company. Chipotle current ethical standard should be an outline for any company on what not to do.
Most of them reported eating food from Chipotle within the week before their symptoms began. Twenty of those individuals have been hospitalized.
Operations: Chipotle has set standards from when the food is bought, to when it's produced and to when it's sold. This quality control is performed by their Quality Assurance group, which foresees all of these positions.
My expectation before I’ve ever walked into a chipotle was that it was just some other Mexican grill restaurant and it wasn’t worth my time. When I actually went there and felt the vibe and tasted their food I was blown away. It was the best thing I’ve ever gotten. Trying the barbacoa is the best thing I’ve done so far in my life. Chipotle is a great experience because you don’t feel like you’re just going to another same fast food place. You can actually sit down and take some time out of your day to just relax and take a breather while eating some delicious food. Every time I go to chipotle, I experience nothing but good things.
I believe that every company should encourage a relationship of trust, loyalty, honesty, and responsibility among staff members at all levels. It’s important that each staff member works together to achieve excellence in a business, so the code of conduct is put in place. The purpose of the code is to provide guidance and set common ethical standards for employees from the top of the food chain to the bottom of the food chain. Some of the areas that I find to be significant of importance in a business are sexual harassment, discrimination and simply being professional in a work environment.
Chipotle’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ells has been reputed for having started the restaurant chain in a unique way which has contributed to its apparent success over its main competitors. Chipotle business has grown exponentially from when it was first formed with most of this growth attributed to the founder’s control process in the business. When Steve Ells first got into the industry, he acknowledged the need for promoting innovation and
Chipotle competitive advantage or Strengths has come from the ingredients that come from sustainable sources. According to the MarketLine article about Chipotle Mexican Grill SWOT analysis "Chipotle serves food using naturally raised meat (pork, beef and chicken) and dairy cattle... in 2014 the company served over 155 million pounds of naturally raised meat." Chipotle cares for their customers because they are not giving us food that has hormones and addictive substances. Their competitive advantage has changed the company culture and mission Statement nowadays they called it now food with integrity, the idea that their food is made with the respect for the animals and the
Unfortunately, Chipotle is having some technical difficulties. CNBC report that Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant has had a recent outbreak of the norovirus (CNBC, 2017). The norovirus is a virus that can be transmitted through food and/or water. It causes inflammation of the stomach or intestines or both. The virus can develop within 24 to 48 hours but will go away after one to three days with proper treatment (CDC, 2017). So, one of the key issues that Chipotle should face is enforcing a strict sick
As you know, Chipotle values our “food with integrity” promise and our customers respect that. However, the recent E Coli outbreak has caused Chipotle’s financial performance and reputation to suffer significantly and staying with our current business model is not our best option. Therefore, I recommend we rebrand and reposition Chipotle to ensure our long-term success.
When Chipotle first opened in 1993, the goal was to serve quality food fast, but not be considered “fast food.” To avoid falling under the fast food stigma, Chipotle strives to find the best ingredients with respect to animals, farmers, and the environment. In order to achieve these goals, Chipotle has created a matrix organizational structure that is divisional by location and functional by authority. Chipotle recently expanded internationally to the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, each following strict guidelines assigned by corporate employees from their headquarters in Denver, Colorado. Similarly, each location is functionally organized according to authority: regional manager, district manager, store manager, assistant manager, and
cleanest meat that has been on the market, because the owners of the chains do not want their loyal customer to become sick, therefore soiling their nice reputation, such as what happened with Chipotle in the past year. The government follows less strict standards than many restaurants as the government stands on the side of the meat-packing industry, which is one of the biggest industries in the world. Their relationship is one of symbiosis: a mutually beneficial relationship between different people or groups.
“Subway says boosting sales at existing restaurants is its biggest priority right now (Peterson, 2015).” From 2012 to 2014 Subway saw a decrease in sales and realized some of their competitors like Chipotle were making more money. How were they making more money? Well Chipotle starting advertising with antibiotic free meat. Just recently Subway decided to follow the trend and do the same, at the beginning of 2015 Subway started advertising antibiotic free meat. The restaurant has already seen a drastic increase in profit. Once Subway and Chipotle put these antibiotic free labels on their food they quickly received more interest in their restaurants. This leads to the fact that the American consumer is not very educated about not only where their food comes from, but also how it is processed. These restaurants should not be getting rewarded with an increase in profit for providing the consumer with false information; in order for this to stop people need to realize they are being taken advantage
In visiting Chipotle’s website, it is adherently clear that they are trying to do a few things to overcome their recent faux pas from the past. Putting a majority of their site’s focus on their sustainability story, how they are helping the environment,
The company is based on the principle value of building a food culture where people can learn about changing the way they think about and eat fast food and a people culture where young leaders can grow organically within the company. Revenue for the company peaked at over $4 billion with growth estimates at over 22% of earnings (2014). The success of Chipotle has been based on the fundamentals of the company’s vision which is to create a sustainable team of top performer who are empowered to achieve high standards and an emphasis of serving only naturally raised meats and organic
o Having friendly people take care of customers. o All while increasing awareness and respect for the environment, by using organically grown fresh produce, and meats raised in a humane manner without hormones and antibiotics. Maintaining a limited menu allows Chipotle to focus on the quality of the products offered and create personalized dishes for their customers. The serving area is set up much like a buffet line, allowing customers to choose what items they want to include in their meals and are served instantly after completing their order.
Small business owners of fortune 500 companies, democrats, republicans, men and women all have ethical responsibilities that should always be considered. Mc Donald’s is a well-known restaurant around the world. Some people enjoy this fast food restaurant and also have made Mc Donald’s one of the leading fast food companies. Although, Mc Donald may have some tasty food, there are still many critics that think Mc Donald’s may have a lot of ethical issues and company violations. Some consider being ethical is simply defined as knowing the difference between what is considered good and evil. However, ethics is defined as moral principles that govern a person’s or group’s behavior, and the practices that violate them. The practices of unethical behaviors, by various fast food corporations, like McDonalds have become of great concern to our society.
