Chipotle opened the first restaurant in Denver as a casual fast food restaurant in 1993, Chipotle Mexican Grill was founded by Steve Ells who at the time was graduate at culinary Institute of America. Chipotle Mexican Grill offers a menu of a variety of food items which mostly are burritos and tacos, Chipotle is located in many parts of the world, not only is Chipotle doing business in US, but also in Canada and UK. Similarities and differences between their characteristics depends on many factors. Usually, fast food restaurants offer a simple and cheaper options to their customers, but these two restaurants are looking at a new approach, providing consumers with higher quality meals. Chipotle and Rubio’s provide consumers with freshly prepared, high quality food as more and more customers are demanding healthier fast food, Chipotle's food pricing is similar to other restaurants such as Rubio’s. A burrito at Chipotle’s runs around $7.00. and this could be more or less depending on how much a person likes the unique taste and flavor of their specialty burritos and other items. On the other hand, Rubio’s prices are overall fair and reasonable, for example fish tacos which you will get a choice to pick from two different tacos and have them with pinto beans for $8.99. Chipotle’s is known for using high quality natural and organic ingredients in its food, so Chipotle prices are usually more expensive than most other fast food restaurants, while Chipotle’s menu is composed of not as many items as Rubio’s, but mainly because Rubio Coastal Grill recently has added more seafood and lobster to the

When a store opens for the first time, the franchised operator doesn’t just see an opportunity to sell his food product, but rather a “chance to interact, build community, and engage with customers and the community at large. We do this in a variety of ways. First and foremost, we strive to provide 2nd Mile Service to each customer. As we work to continuously improve, we want customers to experience something unique. We want to build community and create relationships between our customers and our food, people and restaurants” [3].
New restaurant openings and comparable restaurant sales increases are important factors contributing to Chipotle’s increase in revenues in recent years.
Chipotle is classified in the restaurant industry as fast casual, a combination of the quick serve and the casual dining segments. Fast casual restaurants have the following attributes: high quality foods, upscale atmosphere, higher check averages between $7-$11, and pay at the counter (What exactly is fast casual?, 2008).
Two locally owned famous restaurants in Sedalia, Missouri, El Espolon and El Tapatio, are both recognized as quality, authentic Mexican restaurants that serve Sedalia with outstanding service and great food. After paying each establishment a visit this past weekend, I have discovered some differences and similarities in the two. Although many of my relatives have chosen El Espolon as their favorite, I found El Tapatio to provide a more ethnic experience with their excellent food, sharp service, and clean venue.

Chipotle is my favorite place to eat. As I am sure it is for other people. Chipotle is a fast food Mexican grill. They are most known for how big they make your burritos. Now it is fast food but it isn’t actually fast, they’re like a restaurant but without the wait. They serve all naturally raised meat and organic beans. So there food is pretty healthy and worth eating. The employees are always nice and it just a great place to eat over all. Chipotle is a great choice for a quick fast food stop because it gives great service, atmosphere, food and value. My experience there is always a good one.
Steve Ells founded Chipotle in 1994. When the company first opened its first restaurant, their model of business was a first of its kind. They operated a restaurant business that lies between fast food restaurant and fine dining. The management of the company pride in providing the customers with food services in a fast manner without necessarily the customers experiencing the literal fast food services experience (Ragas & Roberts, 2015). According to the company, their services are high-quality fine dining but delivered in a fast manner synonymous with the common fast-food experience. That model of business practiced by Chipotle has come to be referred as casual restaurant business model.

Ells idea of keeping the menu simple with limited items to prepare delicious food efficiently helped to create a kitchen different from other fast food chains. Food preparation areas in Chipotle’s kitchens are similar to those of fine dining restaurants. Menu items are prepared from scratch and with fresh ingredients. Even the meats are prepped with marinades. Creating such recipes is very labor intensive, but having limited items to prepare assists in keeping the cost down. The focus on menu integrity is one of Chipotle’s advantages and is a key element to their marketing strategy. One way Chipotle is able to control their ingredients and maintain menu integrity is by controlling their suppliers. After working with certain suppliers, they created a list of approved vendors for the individual restaurants to purchase from. One reason was to try and help control costs. Healthier food items cost more and Chipotle wanted to keep the cost of their meals low for their customers, so they built relationships with certain suppliers. Try to remember your last visit at a Chick Fil A, were the workers moody like most fast food chains or did they have a big smile and greet you warmly. You seldom ever hear anyone saying they have had a bad experience whenever it comes to Chick-Fil-A. The main reasons that people go to Chick Fil A is for the food, the atmosphere, and the employees.
The Santa Fe Grill is a relatively new Mexican restaurant that was started by two former business students from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. The idea sparked after the two roommates who were both interested in pursuing entrepreneurial interests decided that a Mexican restaurant in their city would be highly successful. While taking an entrepreneur class at the University, the plan for the business began coming together. Their main focus was to create a restaurant that would feature the freshest ingredients, as well as a lively atmosphere, cutting edge advertising and marketing, plus exceptional service for customers. (Research Methods, Pg. 19) By doing so, the students hoped that they could fulfill their dreams of ownership.
