Our first task was to meet with the Infectious Disease and the Quality Improvement Teams of Children's Mercy Hospital to learn about their project and needs. Through discussion we were able to find a consensus of what needs they had that we could meet, primarily the education of nurses about the new Clinical Practice Guideline being developed and implemented in several specific departments. Our second task was to educate ourselves on the diagnosis and treatment of Group A Streptococcal Pharyngitis utilizing information provided to us by the CMH teams and through our own research. We then developed teaching objectives which then guided our quiz development. We then submitted our quiz to the Quality Improvement Team for feedback and then revised
the quiz. We are currently refining our teaching materials and learning how to create an assessment and teaching module that will enable us to reach the greatest number of nurses in a cost-efficient manner. Through all of this our team met weekly to monitor our progress, offer support to each other, and determine our course of action through specific objectives. We kept a shared drive wherein we were able to edit documents, manage assignments, and monitor progress. We also stayed in close communication with each other providing updates on assignments, project tasks, and communications with contacts.

I attended the Saturday Lab 1 session discussing the Denison Specialty Hospital case study. In our session, we had a through discussion into the different budget terminology. I learned about the difference between accrual and cash accounting methods, which is based on the timing of when the revenue and expenses are recognized. I also learned about responsibility centers as an organizational unit under the supervision of a manager, who is responsible for its activities and results. In addition, the manager is accountable for the budget of the department that they head. Therefore, a centralized form of management in developing the budget because it makes easier to because the information for the department budget is located
This paper will propose the major steps that Caring Angel Hospital (CAH) could take to achieve each of the following goals: Improve the quality of care, add value to the organization, improve employee morale, design an efficient organizational chart, create a strong team environment and create the hospital’s competitive edge. It will also recommend one approach that the hospital could use for acquiring a larger market share given the prevailing financial circumstances. Springfield General Hospital (SGH) is committed to high quality healthcare for patients, and providing tools to support physicians, nurses and pharmacists. SGH leadership approved the computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system as a solution to reduce prescription errors, and the results of the CPOE project are disappointing. The cost of Medical equipment plays a significant role in the delivery of health care. The team members from Biomedical and maintenance engineering’s roles are to ensure utilization of quality equipments such as endoscope and minimize length of repair time. All these issues are a major influence in the hospital’s project cost. For example, Victory hospital, which is located in Canada, is in the process of evaluating different options to decrease cost of its endoscope repair. This equipment is use in the endoscopy department for gastroenterological and surgical procedures. In 1993, 2,500 cases where approximately performed and extensive maintenance of the equipment where needed before and after each of those cases. Despite the appropriate care of the scope, repair requirement where still needed. The total cost of repair that year was $60,000 and the repair services where done by an original equipment manufacturers in Ontario.

The International Shrine is a brotherhood that is dedicated to having fun with a specific purpose. They are a fraternity based on fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love. The fraternity, which has nearly 200 temples in seven countries and thousands of clubs around the world helps to operate the unique pediatric healthcare system they founded years ago (About Our Fraternity). Through the philanthropic work of International Shriners, transportation and free medical care are provided for those children that meet the qualifications, which in turn remove a huge financial burden from the family.
Your most beloved baby brother becomes ill. What at first seems like a normal childhood sickness does not go away or get better after a few days. After visiting doctor after doctor and numerous specialists, none of whom can give you a diagnosis or guidance on how to help him, you feel hopeless. You watch helplessly while your brother continues to get sicker and sicker. You begin to fear for his life. What would you do? Whom would you turn to? For many, the answer is St. Jude Children’s Hospital. St. Jude Children’s Hospital is a non-profit ‘pediatric treatment and research facility... [that] completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases” (About St. Jude). St. Jude Children’s Hospital offers vital hope to many children who were considered lost causes. Summer Wilson is one such example. Summer was a five-week old preemie infant with a very rare cancer. Summer’s doctors did not have any answers for her condition. Summer’s mother Deanna Wilson remembers, “The best case scenario that we were given was to take [Summer] home and love her… she’s not going to make it” (Stump). This was the cataclysmic and devastating consensus of the local doctors. Miraculously, Summer did make it; St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital saved her. Summer is now seventeen years old and thriving, because St Jude’s saved her when others could not. The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN’s) goal is to prepare future nurses with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) that are needed to continuously improve the quality and safety of the healthcare systems within which they work. QSEN focuses on six main competencies; patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics. As we have learned in earlier classes these competencies and their KSAs offer a base to help us and other nurses as we continue our education and become RNs. As we will learn in this class these KSAs go hand in hand with health assessment.

Ill children are extremely difficult to manage as patients and have the tendency to have a rapid change in status while patients in the hospital. Providing safe care for pediatrics during hospitalization is an area that I am not too familiar with. Working the ER I have had many pediatric patients, but the parents always remain with the patient. When peds patients are admitted, hospital protocol states that the patient must be present during the transfer of the patient to the admitting floor. Consulting for the Caring Angel Hospital Working in the health care industry takes a lot of courage and patience in order to deal with different individual’s personalities and to be equipped to handle stressful situations according to the issues at hand. As a senior consultant at the Practical Health Care Consulting firm, my supervisor has instructed me to spend three months at the Caring Angel Hospital. While at the hospital there are a few tasks for improving the quality of care, adding value to the organization, improving employee morale, etc. Although these obstacles will be a challenge, there is an opportunity for improvement. This will allow the Caring Angel Hospital to increase revenue and accomplish the goals that are established.
