As the years progress, many cases of children being raised in single-parent homes are being analyzed and questioned. After conducting research, evaluating a variety of articles, and using personal experiences, it is a strong argument that children who are brought up in single-parent homes are deeply affected. The effects of children living in a single- parent home result in isolation, child poverty and low self-esteem. These effects can be long term and even demonstrate a relationship between single-parent homes and the outcome/sequences of their child’s life and behaviors.

On the other hand, there are parents that do not have the chance to because they are too busy trying to keep a roof over their children’s head to ensure stability and security. Those parents are usually the ones who are raising their child on their own. As a result, the child is forced to teach themselves their own morals and values which can lead to unintended sequences. First, the child will feel alone and seek attention that they are not getting at home even if the attention they are getting is bad. They will probably develop anger from the constant feeling of loneliness and act on their emotions, corrupting their mind. As a consequence, the child will develop a mentality that they do not care about school and will start performing troublesome acts, which will lead to administrative disciplinary actions that can scar their record and put a cease to their learning education. In the article, “The Consequence of Single Motherhood” Sarah Mclanahan states, “They [children of single parents] are twice as likely to drop out of high school, 2.5 times as likely to become teen mothers, and 1.4 times as likely to be idle.” The effects of child self- guidance, lacking moral support from parents are clearly shown.
