I. Childhood hunger problem occurs everywhere in this world and we people need to start helping these children if we have the ability to improve the issue.
A. Children understand that food is important in their life, however they do not know that nutrition also plays a significant role in health as well.
1. I understand that in some area people are having hunger issue is because of poverty. Low-income parents are more likely to let their children to face hunger issue or some health problems because of the food they eat. The health problems for those children to face are childhood obesity or chronic disease, etc. As reported by the Food-Based Science Curriculum Yields Gains in Nutrition Knowledge from Carraway-Stage, Hovland, Showers, Díaz,

This indicates that children do not have much knowledge about nutrition, and how bad nutrition could seriously affect them in the future. In addition, 92% of the teachers do not think nutrition should be included in the education (Carraway-Stage, Hovland, Showers, Díaz, and Duffrin, 2015). Personally, I do not think these teachers understand how important nutrition is for children. Not only United States school has considering the problem of nutrition education, but also many other countries as well. For example, the country Solvenia, in its elementary schools they started to do three different levels of nutrition survey in the school (Gregorič, Pograjc, Pavlovec, Simčič, Gabrijelčič). The result shows how the …show more content…
In conclusion, Nutrition is one of the most important thing for children to learn because they need to have the basic knowledge of what kind of food would give them better energy for their body. Instead, of choosing fast food, soda, or cookies, etc, which may lead them to childhood obesity and other chronic disease. Three Square is decent charity that helps people suffer through hunger. It provides all different kinds of healthy ready to eat food for hunger people, so they could get a better nutrition. This organization use a abundance of volunteers, so they could get all the food get pack quickly and have the food ready for those hunger people as soon as possible. As the world population grows so does the amount of people that live without the proper amount of nutrition and food. Hunger in America can be hard to recognize and many people do not realize that hunger and malnutrition is a problem that many Americans face every day. America is the land of plenty and one of the most powerful and wealthy countries in the world, however is well known that is subject to problem such as starvation, considered as “third-world problem”. For decades, Americans have gone above and beyond to aid other countries that were faced with problems such as malnutrition and hunger. Sadly, the US has failed to aid them and millions are currently suffering from hunger. In addition, with how the economy is now, the effects of hunger are getting worse every day. Many Americans are relying and most of them depend on food stamps and private organizations to help with this crisis. The documentary, “A Place at the Table” by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush present some issues and real life story to explain what is really happening and how hunger and obesity are not problems on opposite ends of a spectrum, but are in fact intricately linked. Poor nutrition, health problem and poverty are all related.
Studies have shown that there is a link between food security, performance in the classroom, and obesity. If this issue is not faced head on, America will have a generation of children not fully prepared for the workforce and high health insurance rates due to obesity health issues. In providing help to people who find themselves in food insecure households, people can be found who are skeptical of their true need. One of the biggest myths of the disadvantaged is that they have poor shopping habits or shop in convenience stores where prices are extremely high compared to those in grocery stores. Another myth is that in America, the land of plenty, those that cannot afford food are lazy or cheats.... ...
Across the globe in impoverished third world countries an estimated 50,000 children die of starvation every day (Quine 36). We have all seen the images of these children--bloated bellies, fly covered, bulging eyes--in television pleas by various charitable organizations. While these images sicken us, we idly sit by (often flipping the channel to avoid them), refusing to help these less fortunate kids. The problem is made worse by the ever-increasing population. Even the wealthy countries like our own now have a starvation problem (Quine 29). Admittedly, the problem here is less severe, but it still exists. With our current level of technology, the resources at our disposal, and a commitment to help those less fortunate, we can and must end starvation around the world before it gets worse.
Unfortunately, in today’s society, school administrators focus heavily on standardized test scores and school rankings thus adding more pressure on students and teachers. This being said, schools have begun to focus on providing healthy foods because they help increase a person’s cognitive and critical thinking ability. It is seen that nutrition plays a great role in students’ performance on exams and physical activity due to the correlation between school provided meals and low student
The Health Department has been approached by a small group of fathers who are interested in improving child nutrition in the local schools.
The most unprotected aim for hunger is kid that is why malnutrition impacts dramatically on children. Child, who are young and need a lot of vitamins and nutrition to grow up have to keep healthy and full of beneficial components diet (Gabriela Mistral 1948) . But for children who were born in country with high percentage of poverty, there are no choice in what to eat and not. Nutrition plays a big role in life of child an malnutrition may be the reason of diseases and can make a child be stunted. Children cannot move properly because of this they cannot find food for themselves. This article evaluates the benefits of investing in early childhood nutrition. Findings from this study suggest that early intervention is crucial because unhealthy diets that become irreversible can lead to negative long-term effects, such as in cognitive functioning as well as in productivity as an adult. On the other hand, a balanced nutrition supported through early intervention has led to significant effects on brain development, resistance to disease, and improved cognitive abilities.
Children have less nutritional reserves than adults and are more susceptible to malnutrition (Katona & Katona-Apte,
Many of these children only get a full meal while having their school lunch, so many of these children go hungry the rest of the day.
A child’s proper growth depends greatly on their nutrition and health. A healthy diet is essential to the developing child. Food should never be used to reward, punish, or bribe a child. Instead children should have three healthy meals with snacks in between. It is also important for children to have good self care behaviors (including bathing, washing hands, brushing teeth), and adequate sleep.
Eliminating world hunger is an obtainable goal if a few small steps are put into place, with the focus being on growing more food. There are many options that should be utilized in the effort to end world hunger. If under developed countries were taught how to farm their own food and given even minimal supplies and tools it would eliminate a large percentage of the hunger complication. Education is another important dilemma that relates directly to under nourished countries such as Asia and Africa. In the United States there are many government sources for women and children to assist with food sources such as WIC (Women, Infant, and Children) and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Other countries could implement similar programs
“Malnourished children are 20% less literate than those with a healthier diet, says UK charity Save the Children” (The Information Daily). When parents become victims of poverty it can have some very unpleasing long and short term effects to their children. Parents in poverty have a lot on their plate and buying the best quality food or affording enough food can be a tumultuous task. Quality nutrition is essential for the development of the brain. At a young age, poor nutrition or not enough nutrition can seriously hinder “the brain 's development, a child’s ability to learn and has a devastating impact on a child’s future”(The Information Daily). “Malnutrition in the early developmental stages of the brain, by restricting the children’s cognitive growth, can lower a child 's IQ has much has 20 points”(The Information Daily). Long term effects of malnutrition leave permanent damage to the brain, however, malnutrition has short term effects as well. Malnourishment can greatly compromise a child’s immune system, making them more susceptible to infectious diseases. “Low counts of zinc, iron and vitamin A are commonly associated with weakened immune function” (Orphan Nutrition). A deadly infection can have a huge impact on a poverty stricken family leading to less affordability. Malnutrition negatively affects a student throughout their educational
As living organisms, foods are one of the resources that essential to life to function the body normally. I have been experiencing with health and nutrition issue in both developing and developed societies. As referring to the period when I was in middle school in Northwestern Thailand, I still remember the time when many of the children and adults suffered from eating disorder, hypertension, underweights, Type II diabetes, abnormal body development issue and other disease that related to nutritional problems. Unfortunately, there was not growing enough food produced from farming and no mandatory nutrition education in the town. People in that town didn’t know about nutrition’s facts and
