Introduction
Most new moms and dads wonder what to except for their newborn baby's development and whether their child's development is on target. Within the first 12 months of a child's life, they will undergo an incredible transformation at an astounding pace. Each baby will reach milestones at a different pace and keep that in mind while we will go over the stages of development from an infant to a toddler. Birth to Three Months
During the first three months of baby’s and their brains are trying to learn how to live in the world outside of the wound. When a baby is born healthy, their internal systems are functional, and this will include things such as eating and breathing. To support the best possible physical development, all infants will require proper nutrition, stimulating environments, and loving adult care. Babies are eager to move early on and start to develop physically from the top down. They will start by trying to hold their heads up, in doing this they also build their neck muscles. When a baby has more tummy time (play time while on their stomachs), they will start to build their arm, back, chest and stomach muscles. Doing this will help baby with developing the skills to roll over, pull up, scooting and crawling. During pregnancy, there are positive and negative influences on a child's cognitive development. Mom should get plenty of rest, eat healthily, and avoid dangerous activities such as drug use. When mom takes care of herself during pregnancy, this will allow the baby's brain to develop normally. Once the baby is born, one of the most important factors that will affect cognitive development is bonding with parents and caregivers. Skin-to-skin contact, eye contact and responding to the baby's crying will positively influence baby's brain development. Bonding will also help with building emotional security and providing reassurance that their needs will be meet. If baby does not get the required 14 to 16 hours of sleep spread throughout the day brain development could negatively be affected.
