The Role of the Chief Information Officer
Introduction
The growing importance of information handling has led many organizations to consider having professionals handling it. The summary will address the different types of roles played by the chief information officer (CIO) in different fields and organizations. The CIO can be effective in many different fields like in the medical industry, in IT organizations, in educational institutions, in Government organizations, and promoting a sustainable development in the environmental foot print. The summary shows that the CIOs in these different fields have two common skills that they should have which are decisional skill and managerial skill.

The CIO should have a strategy that will develop an information system which will help the organization last and guarantee its success. For CIO to be effective they may be helped by their informational, decisional and interpersonal skills.
The informational skill requires one to be able to act as a monitor and spokesperson. As a spokesperson, a CIO should be able to deal with technical problems outside their department and teach people in the organization about the role played by IT in the industry.
The CIO should interact with colleagues outside the Information System function in order to learn about business environment and oversee potential technology investments for their organizations. These informational skills can help a CIO to be an effective technology strategist, for example, a military medical CIO must assist in bridging knowledge gaps that exist between direct patient care and ancillary services [3]. A military medical CIO should work with Deputy Commander of Administration and also hand-in-hand with the Deputy Commanders of Clinical and Nursing Services to tackle clinical business
