. CMIO (the chief medical information officer) is a new position in healthcare setting but plays just important of a role when it comes to leading the clinical information system. CMIO is more involved in direct contact with physicians when it comes to latest EHR system updates that helps them better perform their
Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), is also known as Computerized Provider Order Management (CPOM). CPOE is a process of automated or electronic entry record of health care physician on different types of instructions on how to treat patients, especially patients that are hospitalized under a physician’s care. CPOE is one of the most remarkable system that is being used in the healthcare system to effectively reduce the amount of medication errors. The University of Health Care System might be in the process of rolling out the CPOE portion out of the EMR project, however, they did not do a thorough investigation on what CPOE is and whether or not it would have a positive impact on the EMR project. They should have not taken the step to start the project without already knowing the basics of CPOE. They might have had thought that since it is a computerized system everything would turn out okay and there would not be any problems. However, they fall short to recognize that the user’s knowledge and experience with using the CPOE system would have a significant influence on the effectiveness and productivity of the actual system.
Balance sheet lists assets, liabilities and owner’s equity. The assets listed on the balance sheet are acquired either by debt (liabilities) or equity. “Companies that use more debt than equity to finance assets have a high leverage ratio and an aggressive capital structure. A company that pays for assets with more equity than debt has a low leverage ratio and a conservative capital structure. That said, a high leverage ratio and/or an aggressive capital structure can also lead
Memorial Medical Center was situated “three feet below sea level, which is on one of the low points in the bowl in New Orleans (Fink, Sheri, 2009).” This hospital served as a “shelter whenever hurricanes threatened: employees would bring their families and pets, as well as coolers packed with food (Fink, Sheri, 2009).” Having 2,000 people taking shelter in this hospital on top of 200 patients, and over 600 workers in one place during a category 5 hurricane, ran a huge risk. This was not something that was assessed, because the author stated, “this is something that citizens who live around the hospital normally do during a crisis like this (Fink, Sheri, 2009).” I also do not think that individuals believed that Hurricane Katrina would have been as bad as it was, because this is the storm that is considered to be a “lesson learned (President George W. Bush, 2005)”.
First off, I want to start out by thanking you for going through the CCTI. Even though this time honored tradition has change a lot over the years (For the good and the bad) it is still a important part of our service rich heritage that is staying alive because of you and your fellow PCPO’s. A lot of E-7s will not even take two month out of their busy lives to learn about what it really means to be a Chief.
There are many responsibilities that go hand in hand while being in Medical Office Management. Being a leader is a significant skill that is required for the job, and it is one I feel I have, but can always improve on. While there are many other skills one will need to be a successful Medical Manager, they are ones that are learned in time. Many of which are taught during certification programs and on the job experience. Being fit to be a Medical Office Manager is crucial. There are long work days full of paperwork and meeting with executives, as well as crunching numbers and overseeing employees. Setting goals through the day and long term goals, will help me and others be effective leaders.
Introduction The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is the governing body of all registered nurses in Ontario and is regulated. The CNO provides expectations and guidelines to follow, which need to be met by each Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) individually. As a nursing student, I am taught about the CNO and the importance of referring back to the guidelines while caring for patients. While gaining experience in the nursing field through my clinical settings, I have realized as a nursing student there are areas I need further development in. In this paper, I will address two of my learning needs and my goals for each.
Being in a financial state of duress, it is undoubtedly crucial for a new CIO to have the technical skills and knowledge needed to manage a health care facility. In reference to this point, Halamka had stated, “.I know all the technologies, I program in 12 languages, and I’ve written books on Unix system administration. I’m a doctor, so I understand the clinical domain and the technical requirements” (McFarlan, F. Warren, and Robert D. Austin, pg. 3). Clearly, this exemplifies his qualifications as the newly instated CIO. The technology being used by CareGroup at the time was described as being “antiquated” (McFarlan, F. Warren, and Robert D. Austin, pg.3), and soon, all of the hospitals were running on the Meditech system (McFarlan, F. Warren, and Robert D. Austin, pg.4)....
Health Maintenance Organizations, or HMO’s, are a very important part of the American health care system. Also referred to as managed care programs, HMO's are combinations of doctors and insurance companies that are formed into one organization. This organization provides treatment to its members at fixed costs and decides on what treatment, if any, will be given based on the patient's or doctor's current health plan. Sometimes, no treatment is given at all. HMO's main concerns are to control costs and supposedly provide the best possible treatment to their patients. But it seems to the naked eye that instead their main goal is to get more people enrolled so that they can maintain or raise current premiums paid by consumers using their service. For HMO's, profit comes first- not patients' lives.
The objective of the MCEG is to provide channels to exchange information between managed care/health plan information systems executives and to provide opportunity for personal networking. MCEG provides a forum to develop policy which relates to the use of information technology and healthcare. MCEG provides feedback to vendor sponsors and other vendors on the trends and types of technology needed to ensure that their products and strategies meet their customer’s present and future managed care needs. Additionally, their objective is to “educate executives on clinical and administrative trends in health care, new and emerging technologies, and other pertinent information to assist in achieving the key goals of cost containment, effective service and high quality health care.” (Why We Matter, 2011)
According to Buchbinder, Shanks & Thompson (2010) the definition of is the process with technical and social activities and functions, occurring within organisations for the purpose of completing predetermined objectives through humans and other resources. More specifically, financial management is the subset of management that focuses on creating financial information that can be used to enhance decision making (Calabrese et al. 2013). With this definition, healthcare managers should be responsible to organisational tasks to maximize the best possible way to reach organisational goals and the proper resources with financial and human resources, considering the reason of organisation for existence in supporting the organisation through decision making processes (Buchbinder, Shanks & Thompson 2010; Daft & Marcic 2013). This essay, thus, the importance of proper understanding of management in achieving financial target will be discussed with the understanding of quality and safety concepts within healthcare organisations.
An HMO is a integrated delivery system that combines both the delivery and financial aspects of health care for consumers. Under the HMO, each patient is appointed to a primary care physician (PCP), who is essentially accountable for the long-term care of the members that she/he has been assigned and any specialists that a patient needs to see should be referred by their PCP. Some examples of HMOs are Kaiser Permanente and Humana. HMOs are licensed at the state level, under a license that is known as a certificate of authority. A pro of an HMO is that treatment for a patient can begin prior to their insurance being authorized; A member may benefit from this because there would be little to no treatment delays.

“Health is not valued till sickness comes.”-Thomas Fuller. Within the healthcare field there are many positions that help take care of people from the top of the hospital chain to the bottom. One of the most important positions that operate behind the scenes of the hospital is health administrator.
