Chemistry is not used only in a lab environment, but it is used for every aspect of life. One way to look into a more in-depth view of chemistry is to apply it to a hobby, or something that may personally affect your everyday life. One of the biggest parts of my life and my main hobby is flying. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to become a pilot. I am currently working towards my private pilot’s license and I am also attending the U.S. Air Force Academy starting in June to study aeronautical engineering. Since flying is such a large aspect of my life and is important to me, I wanted to break it down into an aspect of chemistry. I chose this topic because flying is very important to me and it will continue to be a large part of my life as it will end up being my career in the Air Force. Not only will researching the topic of aviation fuel help me to become a more knowledgeable pilot, but it will also help me to understand more about chemistry and expand on the concepts we have learned this semester. Chemistry is extremely important to planes and pilots. One of the most obvious aspects of flying that deals directly with chemistry is fuel. Without fuel, aircraft would not be able to run. The molecular formula of fuel and the combustion of fuel are just some parts that play into how fuel makes an aircraft run.
When looking at the fuel used in aviation, there are many aspects to look at. First of all, there are multiple different types of fuel used in aviation because of the different types of aircraft. Comparing the fuels can help explain why different planes use different fuels. Military, civilian, and airline aircraft all use different types of fuel. The chemical properties of these fuels is what makes them so different. One of the most important aspects in choosing which fuel goes in which time of plane is the type of engine and also the type of climate it will be flying in. This is important because the larger aircraft are flying at higher altitudes which means lower temperatures, so it is necessary to have a fuel with a lower freezing point. Taking a specific subject such as aviation fuel can help you look at the world with a microscopic view. Every day that I fly I have to deal with fuel, learning the chemistry behind the fuel was a great lesson because I was able to use and apply what I have learned in chemistry class to something in which I am very passionate about.

Did you know that you can receive a maximum of a $7,500 tax credit for just owning an electric or hybrid vehicle? The United States government values citizens that buy fuel efficient vehicles because it gets the United States one step closer to not buying outsourced oil (Jones par.14). Hybrid vehicles are vehicles that are mostly powered by gasoline, but switch over to electric at stop signs or at coasting speeds. Electric cars are cars that are solely powered by electric from start up to shut down (Motavalli par. 6). Most cars and trucks on the road today are powered by gasoline or diesel engines, which are expensive to operate, bad for the environment, and use resources that are non renewable. To achieve better fuel economy, lower operation cost, reduce the pollution on the environment, and operate vehicles with renewable resources, this world needs to take a better look at using alternative fuels to power vehicles. Alternative fuels for motor vehicles are better for the environment, are renewable resource, and are cheaper for consumers.

We will start with the fuel tank. A fuel tank comes in many different sizes depending on how much space is available. Most cars and trucks have only one tank but some trucks have two. Fuel tanks can be made of 3 different things. These are pressed corrosion-resistant steel, aluminum, or molded reinforced polyethylene plastic. The fuel tank has internal baffles or surge plates to prevent the fuel from sloshing back and forth. If you hear splashing in the tank on acceleration or deceleration, this means that the baffles could be broken. All tanks have a fuel filler pipe, a fuel outlet line to the engine and a vent system. All catalytic converter cars are equipped with a filler pipe restrictor so that leaded fuel, which is dispensed from a thicker nozzle, cannot be introduced into the fuel system. All modern fuel tanks include devices that prevent vapors from leaving the tank. All fuel tank designs provide some control of fuel height when the tank is filled. This is achieved by using vent lings within the filler tube or tank. With this design only 90% of the tank is ever full, leaving 10% for expansion. Some vehicles have a over filling limiting valve to prevent overfilling of the tank.

The importance of this rising issue has allowed her to bring validity to the argument. Despite this, her knowledge and ability to document her evidence, has caused her to stray away from her own thoughts which was not beneficial in connecting with her readers.
Chemistry plays an important role in being a veterinarian. A veterinarian is “a person qualified to treat diseased or injured animals.”(Merriam-Webster Dictionary) One reason why chemistry is important in being a veterinarian is that veterinarians use chemistry to diagnose disease in sick animals and seemingly healthy animals. Also Veterinarians use chemistry to prescribe medications and treatments for sick animals and observe the response the animal has to the treatment. The last impact that chemistry on being on veterinarian is that veterinarians use chemistry to interpret diagnostic tests and also to analyze the test results. These are just some reasons on why chemistry is important on being a veterinarian.
Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be a nurse. When I got to high school I decided that I should take chemistry to get ahead in my education. Unfortunately, I really struggled with it and couldn’t comprehend a thing! I love the thought of caring for others and I can’t wait to be a nurse in the future. In society today it is very rare to find someone who does not own a cell phone. There are ten year old children running around with iPhones. Cell phones have become such an important part of society. They have come along way with the advancements made in technology to allow these phones to do more than you would think possible. We now not only use them to contact people, but use them for social media, to take pictures, surf the web, and get information at the touch of our fingers. It is crazy to think that at one point there were no cell phones. Without the use of chemistry we would not have the cell phones that we use today. Chemistry is defined by the Holt Modern Chemistry textbook as the scientific study of the composition, structure, and properties of matter and the changes that matter undergoes. Chemistry is responsible for the batteries that are in all our our cell phones. Without these batteries there would be no phone. The battery is the main power source of the phone and without it then the phone would not work.
From the unit of chemistry in grade ten science, the students have learned many things from different types of elements in the chart all the way to how each element impacts the daily life each student or even adult lives in. Some of the things I as a student have learned include how to draw the different elements in a bohr rutherford diagram, balancing chemical equations, types of chemical reactions, and even information about the different types of acids and bases. Although there were many other things in the unit, these four definately helped me learn about chemistry in a more in-depth way, as well as teaching me something very new since these were some things a few of the students had never done in the previous years. Learning this in the classroom has really opened my eyes to the world in which we live in today, many times I leave the house on a cold day and as I look upon the cold water becoming ice or even the snow falling down, I know how it is happening, why it is happening, and I can even picture the molecules solidifying as we had seen in class with many different diagrams.
Though many people fail to realize it, chemistry is a subject essential to everyday life, due to the fact that it is the branch of science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed. But what we must understand is that everything in the universe is composed of matter, hence chemistry is necessary in learning more about the world and universe that we live in. There are many careers and fields affiliated with chemistry that people pursue to learn more about the composition of the universe, but for now, let us examine the logistics of three of these careers. These three careers involving chemistry are geochemistry, environmental chemistry, and chemical engineering.
It gave us a sense of pride each morning coming into class to check and make sure our ecosystems were still thriving. Through high school my interest was lacking as my science education had simply turned into a memorization game until my senior year of high school. My senior year, I decided to challenge myself and take an AP chemistry course. We spent 2 hours in class each day. The first thirty minutes we would lecture, and the next hour and a half would be spent on hands on lab activities.
Throughout my school career I have always loved chemistry. In Chemistry there was always a sense that there was more, there was always something new and exciting to be discovered and theories to be proven (or even disproven). Chemistry was the main subject with a real practical aspect to it during school and it is this, along with my genuine fascination with the subject, which fuels my desire to study it further.
