Chemical reactions physical science
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
During an intense game, athletes need a way to soothe their acute injuries leading them to the instant cold packs in their team’s med kit as fans huddle under blankets clutching hot packs between frigid fingers. What these two groups don’t realize is that they are utilizing chemical reactions in order to either expel or absorb heat. Chemical reactions that were discovered and utilized by inventors to create the very packs they are using. The chemicals inside each respective pack have various properties and applications that make them useful in their thermochemistry reactions. The compounds used are salts including sodium acetate and calcium chloride for hot packs and ammonium nitrate for cold packs.
The compounds used for hot and cold packs
Imagine rounding the bases after hitting your 70th home run and setting a new major league record. Slapping your teammatesí hands, you hear cheers progress throughout the sold out stadium. As you acknowledge the crowd further, you hear booing also coming from the standing crowd. Why are they booing? You just set a record! Then you see a small boy pointing at you and yelling. You watch closely and see the word, “Andro” form on his lips.
The reaction between the sugar in the gummy bear and the melted potassium chlorate in this experiment is an example of an exothermic reaction. An exothermic reaction is a chemical reaction that releases energy as heat or light. When potassium chlorate is melted, it produces potassium chloride and oxygen. When the sugar and oxygen react, energy accumulated in the chemical bonds of the sugar molecules is released. This is a combustion reaction, an exothermic process in which a substance reacts specifically with oxygen to produce heat, water, and carbon dioxide. During the process of combusting the sugar in the gummy bear with oxygen, the products formed are heat, a purple flame (light), carbon dioxide, and water.
This research includes information about Alka-Seltzer and it’s correlation with chemical reactions. Many people use the chemical reaction of Alka-Seltzers to heal themselves. Heat and cold can strongly affect the speed of a chemical reaction. This science project will determine the effect heat has on the reaction between a seltzer tablet and beakers of water. The temperatures will be extremely cold, cold, room temperature, hot, and boiling water.
In baseball there are several types of team players and how the team plays always determines on team chemistry. Team chemistry plays a major role in winning games, playing good, and not losing. Whenever a baseball team has great chemistry, no team will ever beat you. Whenever you get along together good, you are able to communicate and play together very well. There’s two major keys in baseball, communication and chemistry. In baseball whenever you make an error or get mad at something, you have to shake it off because the ball will always find you and then you’ll make even more errors.
Collegiate sports vary from gymnastics to soccer and the level of competition ranges from multiple divisions in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to community college. One similar aspect these intercollegiate athletes experience is nutrition. Nutrition will continue to dominate these individuals physiologically and impact their performance. Many athletes will go through a rigorous day of training, but the time not training will be used for diet and nutrition. This will allow for the athletes to refuel and recover so they can continue to improve performance and strive for excellence. There are several factors that can either improve or decline an individual’s performance. These factors include the amount of education on nutrition
As a child, Stephen Curry was raised like any other child, except he grew up playing multiple sports. “In an age of hyper-specialization, Curry has reached the pinnacle of his sport by doing the exact opposite. He played basketball, but he also played some baseball, football, soccer and basically everything else in a sports buffet” (Cohen). Now, Curry is known as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Is this because of his vast background of many sports? In today’s world, children should be introduced to a variety of different sports in order to promote discipline and hard work, prevent injury, and fulfill their college desires.
The following quote is by Evander Holyfield, a professional boxer. “Well, when I think of steroids I think of an image. You have the advantage over someone, which is a form of cheating. I guess it wouldn't be right unless it was legal for everybody. Reason it's not legal for everybody is because it can hurt people seriously.” The quote gives the opinion of an athlete that can affected more than most by the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs, or PEDs as I will refer to them in this paper, due to the fact that he is a professional boxer. Even though PEDs can greatly increase one’s athletic ability, they can also greatly damage a person during continued and over use and should not be legalized for professional athletes to use.
Sports can help many at- risk youths. In order to participate in sports you need to be committed and willing to work hard. You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.
ATs are health care professionals who provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. I successfully joined Athletic Training (AT) by mastering AT terminology, leading well as captain and motivated members, as well as athletes, during intense sport seasons. Being an AT has interested me in the interdisciplinary science of sports psychology. Sport psychology is the study of how psychological factors affect performance and how participation in sport and exercise affect psychological and physical factors.
We need to drug test high school student athletes. Randomly drug testing student athletes in schools is a zero tolerance policy. The problem with this is drug testing student athletes is so coaches and guardians know their athlete is using. Letting students know when they’re getting tested is a problem because they can prepare. If we surprise drug test athletes the coaches and guardians will know for sure if their athlete is using. Around 74% of student athletes abuse and are not usually caught, this is a problem because students are doing anything and everything they can do get high.
Ryan Burns, Mrs. Stutz, English p4, 6 May 2014 Doping in Sports History of Doping Many people believe that doping (taking a drug to enhance performance and beat the competition) was derived from the Dutch word Dop- the name for an alcoholic beverage made from the skins of grapes and started with the Zulu warriors taking it to improve their battle prowess. It is now known that the ancient Greek athletes used special diets and potions to enhance their performance.
Since the creation of sports, athletes have always attempted to find ways to have that edge against their competitors. Performance enhancing drugs, an idea that has been used throughout the history of sports, is defined as any type of substance used to improve an athlete's performance. When the consumption of performance enhancement drugs were introduced, it was something that was accepted in society and athletes were not belittled for taking these drugs. For example, during 100 A.D, Roman gladiators took hallucinogens such as strychnine to decrease an athlete’s fatigue and make them less injury prone (Aziz, 2006). Ramlan Abdul Aziz is a credible source due to the fact that he is the President of the Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine
Sports psychology is the study of how psychology influences sports, athletic performance, exercise and physical activity. Some sports psychologists work with professional athletes and coaches to improve performance and increase motivation. Other professionals use exercise and sports to enhance people’s lives and well-being. While finding ways to help athletes is certainly an important part of sports psychology, the application of exercise and physical activity for improving the lives of non-athletes is also a major focus.
How Does Doping in sport damage the sporting industry as a whole? The usage of performance-enhancing drugs in sports is commonly known as Doping. Doping is banned worldwide in every sports administration and competitions and doping gives an unfair advantage to those using illegal substances, such as steroids to boost their performance. It also puts at stake the integrity of those athletes who do not use performance-enhancing drugs also known as “clean” athletes. In fact it seems that we’re now entering the era of performance-enhancing drugs within professional sports.
The industry bought into focus throughout will be the sports industry as it is the aspiration of the writer’s career choice after graduating from university.
