Therefore in conclusion, the Brantwood Children’s home has more of a task oriented external leadership style with is very realistic within Brantwood. Although they remain grounded to their mission they also depend highly on outside resources such as the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR). Not only that, Brantwood also receives a lot of outside funding from federal, state, and local grants. However, with the task oriented external leadership style being more prominent the other three styles were equally rated.

In my opinion, I felt like the leadership style of the group was charismatic, which is by far the most successful trait-driven leadership style is charismatic. Charismatic leaders have a vision, as well as a personality that motivates followers to execute that vision. As a result, this leadership type has traditionally been one of the most valued. Charismatic leadership provides fertile ground for creativity and innovation, and is often highly motivational. With charismatic leaders at the helm, the organization’s members simply want to follow. I thought this was a charismatic leadership because Ms. TG had a vision and mission statement in which she went by and wanted the group to follow. Leadership has been studied and defined since the beginning of times. Throughout history, the leadership theory was characterized by the idea of leaders being great men who were brave and sources of authority and Justice (Marsiglia). However, leadership theories have changed over time and new ones have been developed. Similarly, in today’s time, a leader’s leadership style is defined as the way a leader approaches action towards followers to accomplish a mission. Despite the fact that leadership styles are vital, it is concluded that the essence of leadership is actually an individual’s personality and what provides the motivation, purpose, and direction to lead efficiently towards accomplishments. Personality types are known to be important in leadership because they help a leader develop followers accordingly, make valuable and timely decisions, and have a different perspective to accomplish a job. Personality shapes leadership and therefore also leadership styles. Without personality, there would be no leadership styles. Personality types provides the base for leadership development, style, and the foundations for qualities needed for any leadership position.

To reflect back on my original question; although the degree of charisma may continue to be on the radar for the selection and evaluation of leaders, in many ways this trait can add to the effectiveness of leaders and I believe will continue to a valued trait.
John Maxwell is a distinguished author, speaker and pastor who specializes on leadership and leadership development. This paper is outlines my reflections from watching his YouTube video presentation of his five levels of leadership. It was insightful that Maxwell, (2013) explained that all leaders start at level one, then continue to develop in their capabilities through level five. He outlines each of the five stages, identifying the attributes and tendencies of each of the levels. He describes that followers view leaders through different lenses, each the lenses is a reflection of one of the five stages.
